The Southern Table

I went here with my sister two weeks ago. I had the butternut squash soup and pear walnut salad and my sister had the chickens and waffles. We both loved our food. Excellent service and nice people. Sad to see they closed down.

Small but very cute freestanding place with a deck that would be great in good weather. Modern, clean with a but of southern charm interior. A bit chic for the area and warm and hospitable.
Service was outstanding and chef (and or owner) was super nice.
Food is a slight bit pricey but super good. Started with fried green tomatoes which were balanced (cheese didn’t overwhelm it) And fried perfect. Top of the game on those. Next we had the smoked cornbread which was almost quish’ish in a way like a pie or cake. Wonderful taste and texture. Certainly not what you cook for yourself at home and worth the 9 $ easily it costs. A real treat! Finally we had a veggie plate which was excellent and well priced. Would be better with some pepper sauce or pepper vinegar on the side, but I add those to everything. Everything cooked perfect and flavorful. Finally fish and chips. The chips/​potatoes were as good as it gets. The fish was good but breaded in a crumb type batter which to me isn’t as good as a traditional beer type British style but still very good.
Had a couple of excellent craft beers that are on tap to wash it down.
This place is fantastic and worth a drive even if you arent in the area. Excellent!

Came for a business lunch and it worked well. Easy to get to from I-​20 which is why I chose it but the food was also good. Quiet enough for a productive lunch without having the museum feel. Burgers were good but the menu listing for the one I got was confusing (thought it was double cheese not double meat). Fried green tomatoes were exceptional, even heated up the next day. It would be a fun place to come and try just appetizers.

Of course, my trusty Unilocal search turns up another fine gem. This place is nothing like you would or could imagine. It’s off the main road and looks like someone’s house. We really weren’t sure this was going to be a place open for lunch or anything.
So, let’s start. We get in. The special was a 2 pork chop w/​mash and beans. The waitress started us with the pimento cheese fritters. Holy cow were they good. Then the meal came out. Wow. These guys know what they are doing. The whole experience was great. This is a must when you’re in this area. I recommend. Bring a date.

Amazing atmosphere. Right off the bat Brett is super friendly. Great wait staff and top notch Chef. The food is out of this world from the cornbreads to the fresh Blackbery cobbler to finish the night. Best Selection of craft brews around. Go there! You will not regret it.

After reading multiple positive reviews, and asking close friends that have been here, I was dying to try it. We came here on a Sunday for the brunch. Pulling into the parking lot, I noticed the lack of parking space, and the hole in the wall feel. I wanted to withhold judgment until after I tried it, but something in the back of my mind told me I was in store for a bad experience.
My girlfriend ordered the steak and eggs, and I ordered the chicken and waffles. Our food came out relatively quickly, which was expected, since there were only 2 other groups dining in. My chicken and waffles were actually very good. The waffle was crispy on the outside and nice and soft on the inside. The chicken was juicy and had good flavor.
My girlfriend’s meal was a whole other story. As soon as her meal came out, we knew something was up. The steak had an aroma that was identical to animal feces. Seriously, dog crap. We told the waitress about it and she was quick to replace it. Might have been a slab of bad meat. The replacement steak was tough as rubber and had little flavor, but it didn’t smell like a turd. The staff was apologetic and paid for our meal, but needless to say, I will not be returning.
Based on all the past reviews, this place was amazing. Something obviously has changed.
