Great wine shop in Vienna. Very knowledgable wine experts and tasting events. Great wine selection. Unfortunately, it is closing on 6÷30÷2015. :(

Recently moved into Vienna(Jan 15), and I found this place on Unilocal and gave a go considering it was less than a mile away. From reading the reviews, I believe it is under new ownership, and to be honest the folks were very friendly. I want to say a man named Chris is the new owner, but I could be wrong, and we spoke for a while. Thing is, it is wine and it is tasty and they had a nice range to choose from. I tasted what they had at the back bar and had them box up the six they were tasting, not rocket science. I was also in jogging pants after moving boxes all day and that did not seem to offend. Nice place to have in the neighborhood, owner should consider redoing Unilocal and ditching the old reviews.

Out of Site Wines is a small neighborhood shop that cares about quality and education. All of the people who work there are extremely committed to learning and teaching about wine. This is a really nice store to go to if you want to turn wine shopping into a wine outing. They always do tastings on Friday evenings and Saturday afternoons. If you want to try something new, you can do the tasting and you will probably find something you like. They try to showcase a variety of prices, regions, and varietals. So usually you can find something you like for the price you are looking for. I find that the staff are knowledgeable and respectful, although some of the regular customers are a bit pretentious and obnoxious. I can hold my own when it comes to wine. But some of the customers have talked to me as if I’m stupid and they assume they know more about wine than I do. That is annoying, but certainly not the fault of the store. You should not go to this shop if you: a) want wine under $ 10 b) want mass produced«staple wines» that are in every supermarket and chain restaurant c) you are a pompous ass This is a great place to go if you are not a wine drinker and you need to buy a good bottle of wine for someone.

We go for their evening tastings and they are really fun. The staff is really knowledgeable and their excitement for wine is infectious. I always walk away learning something new about wine. It is a very small shop which I like because I find total wine a little overwhelming since I never know what I’m looking for.

We found Out of Site Wines after stopping in after running on the W&OD one night. We now go regularly for the weekend tastings– some weeks it’s a smaller tasting(3 – 4 wines), some weeks a larger tasting(10+ wines), and others an educational seminar by a winemaker. The selection is smaller than your typical warehouse wine store, but it seems like more thought went into choosing each wine that they sell. The staff are great too– knowledgeable and personable at the same time.

I like Out of Site. Steve, the owner, is always friendly and knowledgeable. They’re small, and only open a few days a week, so don’t go expecting Total Wine-scale stock. While they can’t provide every wine available(actually… if you ask, they have connections, and can order you just about anything you can think of), what they do have is consistently good. And while they have their share of high-priced bottles, they offer a lot of value wines as well. What I really appreciate are the tastings and educational opportunities. They have tastings nearly every Friday evening and Saturday afternoon which I frequent. If you take their email newsletter, there will also be a «secret» wine, often high-end, open for tasting upon request. A couple of times a quarter, they have HUGE tastings(12 – 16 bottles!) along various themes. They also have classes pretty regularly in the back tasting room. For such a small place, they deliver Vienna with a lot of value.

Out of Site is a neighborhood gem. An importer of French wines was pouring the first time we were in the store. He and the store employees were very knowledgeable and weren’t pushy. Because of that, we signed up for an evening tasting of South African wines, which we enjoyed.

psuedo elitist wine snobbery at it’s finest! we inquired to see if they had two specific labels of wine which they had clearly never heard of… they repeated the names very slowly, and incorrectly, i might add, then they said, «no, we don’t have those» while looking at each other all clueless(there were three of them). then instead of engaging us(prospective customers) by asking questions about the wines we were looking for, they were like, «hmmm let me show you something similar.» we were like«similar to what?» you have zero clue about the two wines we asked about. you don’t know the vineyard, or the type of wine, and you’re attempting to «show me something similar»? before the lady started to show us some merlot, we bolted. i don’t mind at all that they didn’t know or stock the specific wines we were looking for. i’m nowhere near a sommelier, i just don’t expect to be treated like an idiot, especially when i’m a prospective paying customer. their attitudes reeked of pure shite in this place. they were condescending, patronizing… i guess we didn’t look the part of people who enjoy a fine wine… bad energy in this spot.

Once I started coming here, I was hooked. Well worth finding in its somewhat out of the way location(hence the name). Extremely knowledgeable staff with a variety of interesting wines at several price points. The store has a variety of gourmet food items as well(definitely recommend the lemon-infused olive oil and the Ficoco spread).
