The nearby Whole Foods was out of paneer due to a national paneer recall with the brand they usually carry. Fortunately, Aditi was just down the street and had at least five different brands of paneer. The shop was not impressive; it was really cramped and generally unpleasant to be inside. I’m not sure they had any produce at all, but I didn’t look around the entire store. However, I’m giving them a full three stars based on the lack of other options in this neighborhood. If I were in the neighborhood again and in need of spices or paneer, I’d happily stop by again.

Ever since am in VA I have been visiting this store and now all the sales person are like family. They are helpful. Although its a small store, it carries everything an Indian would need. I love especially the Aloo Parata, Puran Poli by Deep in the Frozen section. Also recommended is the Pani Puri masala by Deep(also in the frozen section). They have seasonal products like Mangoes and Curry Leaves Tree which you can buy to plant at home. Yes, they are definitely congested a bit and Yes they haven’t spend much on their Interior… but as far as I get my stuff, am glad. Most Indian Veggies like Gavar, Curry Leaves, Mango Ginger, Doodi, Fresh Methi Leaves, Tendli, Small Onions & Arbi are easily available. They have variety of spices, Indian snacks, a plethora of pickles and they have wet dosa & idli batter. Also I recommend their homemade Prawn Pickes and Sambhar. It is open till late hours and I have never encountered any unfriendly behavior among the staff right from day one. If I don’t get something I desire, I keep the staff posted and they ask me to call on a certain day to check back and come for it and that’s worked for me. Double billing is a problem especially with an old employee, even my husband has caught it once. Ever since we are careful. I realized he doesn’t do it on purpose, he is just old. About the Less than $ 10 dollar cash payment policy is flexible. I never carry cash and have been in similar situation and they have processed it through my cc.

Decent Indian food store. They have a good selection of basic Indian spices and other food staples like lentils, pickles, and rice/flour. I haven’t ever gone here for produce so I can’t recall if they even have any.

Great store. small but packed with almost everything that you get in India including pressure cookers, iron pans, adapters, idli cooker and the list goes on. Ive found some old stuff lying around at times but the person who helped me promptly apologized and removed it from the shelf. Service is good. I’ve on occasion asked for fresh curry leaves/veggies and they opened a new box for me despite an open box lying outside. They also have a dvd section which I definitely use for movies(Original movies). H-Mart does carry most of the Indian stuff but this place is closer and I’ve brought back stuff that I didn’t like at times and they were more than happy to exchange it plus I use fresh coconut and they always cut it open for me to make sure it is not bad. Ive bought several from H-Mart to only find them rotten most of the times. So 5 stars for this store.

I am from India and have been going to this store off and on for Indian grocery. But thanks to all my Korean brothers for carrying almost everything one would need from an Indian grocery store! I almost shudder at the thought of coming to Aditi to buy Indian groceries :(I ONLY come here for stuff that I will not get at H-Mart — things like rotis, paneer, etc. First thing — concept of service is non-existent, aisle as narrow and littered with stuff. Many a times I have seen shelves stocked with spices way past the expiration date. The store looks worse than my grandma’s attic(sorry grandma)! Store employees don’t care of providing a good shopping experience. May a times I waited in line while the person behind the counter has been yapping on the phone attending to some personal business! And the icing on the cake for bad service is their insistence on cash for purchases less than $ 10! Is that not illegal??? The last time I was at this store was yesterday — my wife wanted to get 3 things and not go to H-Mart. So we picked up the 3 things my wife wanted and proceeded to the checkout counter. As usual the person behind the counter was on his cell phone! Our total came out to $ 5.28 and when I gave him I debit card(I never carry cash), back came the request to pay cash for less than $ 10. I did not buy the stuff on principle even though my wife had about $ 7 in cash on her! So we drove to H-Mart and bought $ 50 worth of Indian groceries from them that even the Indian grocery store does not carry!

Decent selection of spices. I would suggest you keep your eyes open at the register though. I caught the guy trying to charge more than once at the same time. I do go back here because it is the closest and you can’t go wrong with Frozen rotis.

One of the most dependable Indian grocery stores in the northern virginia area. If it’s Indian and you want it, they got it or they can get it for you. They are now called Aditi Spice Depot which bumps up the aditi chain to 3 establishments: The Spice Depot, the Video place & the Bistro. Just stopped by yesterday after writing this review and noticed they have curries in the cooler at the back of the store by the veggies. The ones I saw were Chilli Chicken, Fish Masala, Bhindi Masala and one more that I cannot remember. I bought the Chicken, just so I could report back to you guys here. At almost $ 4, it’s quite expensive for the quantity & the quality isn’t that good either. I wish I’d gotten the Bhindi instead :(

Dig this store! Stopped by after grubbing down at Aditi Bistro next door. They have big and small jars of garlic-ginger paste, lots of different brands of pickles and relishes(my fave is Patak’s garlic relish), fresh paneer, fresh and frozen chapati, indian snack mixes, a large variety of frozen prepared meals, and more. I also saw some interesting looking Indian sweets. Wonderful selection of dry spices(I got a bag of cinnamon sticks for a bit over a buck), garam masala, etc. and a good selection of lentils. They have a bit of produce, too.

This is one of my favorite Indian grocery shops. It’s small & cramped but they keep a great variety of spices & Indian produce. There’s also a good variety of South Indian groceries(tamarind paste, sambar powder, MTR mixes & the lot). Also to be found here are several varieties of rice. The racks at the back is where you’ll find the garam masalas & spices(whole & ground). They also keep keep good«mixtures» or «chevdas» & Indian munchies. They have a limited variety of Indian breads but they’ve always been fresh(always check the expiry date). I like the green chillies here — small & screaming hot. They’re the ones I grew up eating in India. For those of you who’ve never been here — it’s in the complex diagonally opposite Amma’s Kitchen on Maple.
