Old fashioned type place. We were pretty hungry so it was good. Lots of sides too. There is a dining room in the back with hillbilly music playing. Wtf? It’s Texas!

3 words. Chipped. Beef. Sandwich. When I come home from Lake Charles I ALWAYS stop by for a sandwich! I can’t find good barbecue like this back in LC! The meat is just the right amount of salty and the bread is slightly sweet to balance it! The brisket isn’t the best but the pork ribs and the chipped beef is worth every penny! They have a drive thru and that’s usually how I order.

Worst. Barbecue. Ever. Wow, I did not expect to be writing those words, especially given the other positive reviews here. But passing through Vidor with a colleague on our way from Orange to Austin, we found Wright’s on Unilocal, read the reviews and decided that it sounded good. Yes, it’s a little hole-in-the-wall kind of barbecue place, but I grew up in Texas, this is what I’m used to. I looked at the menu briefly as I came in the door, and made a snap decision to have a brisket plate. After all, the brisket is pretty much the measure of a man’s barbecue, right? Although they had a variety of sides available, I chose potato salad and beans as a safe accompaniment to the brisket. My coworker ordered the barbecued chicken. We found our way back into the dining room through a little hallway at the end of the serving counter, and sat down amidst a room full of automotive photographs, models, and memorabilia — it’s clear the owner was an old car buff. Everything went all sideways though when I took the first bite of brisket. OMG. Yuk. Roast beef, with brown gravy. I swear, no barbecue flavor at all, and that isn’t barbecue sauce. Their sauce was literally like canned beef gravy from the supermarket. And I don’t think they even had a smoker, I believe the brisket was baked in the oven. That was the most disconcerting brisket plate I’ve ever eaten. The potato salad was a little sweet like I like it, but it had kind of a slimy texture and I was afraid it was spoiled so I didn’t eat it. The beans were decent, but they should have been, I think they were right out of a can. As we left the restaurant, my coworker said to me «I’m just glad that wasn’t MY money.»(We were using our employer’s per diem). I said«That’s exactly what I thought too.»

Stopped here for lunch on the way back to Louisiana from a cruise in Houston. Great barbecue place. Basic stuff, meats, sides, slaw and cold salads. Kind of a plate lunch place. Good price, wife and I ate the 2 meat combos and got ribs and sliced beef each with two sides and bread plus drinks for about $ 20. The dry rub on the ribs I thought was great, my wife thought a little salty. Doesn’t look fantastic on the outside or inside but great food.

I have tried just about everything on the menu. The prices are great. The rub on the ribs is wonderful! If you are dieting the smoked chicken and green beans is the way to go, if not have the banana pudding!

Just great Texas BBQ. Definitely not a place with a dress code, but the food is outstanding.
