We tried the Village Hideaway after checking out our new home which is under construction. Vicksburg is a small quiet town, mans sadly like many small towns has quite a few empty businesses. However Village Hideaway is an exception! While not packed it was plenty busy. The staff was friendly. My wife and her friend had been there before, but I had not. They had exclaimed about the Perch Basket. I had also seen very positive reviews of the Perch. So all three of us ordered it, but the ladies split a basket. The server was very nice explaining that there was no problem in splitting it between the ladies. Other places we’ve eaten have not been as cooperative. The baskets came quickly and were piping hot. The perch was lightly battered and DELICIOUS! The fries were greasy but not the fish. The slaw was average, and so was the sauce for the perch. Quite honestly a full basket was way more than even I could eat. FOURLARGE pieces of fish and fries is huge portion! I gladly took the rest home for lunch the next day. So the meal was quite a deal, two meals for the price of one! This is one meal I would recommend without reservation! However because of the very greasy dies in all three meals I can only give four stars. I’m sure we will be back once we live in the area. There is quite a few things on the menu and I’d like to see if the rest is as good as the perch!

The ruben is awesome. Fresh and they cook the meat in house. Fries are nice and crisp. The cheese balls were fun too. Great service and the woman tending the bar was very friendly. The locals come in a lot. The woman tending the bar seems to know everyone on a first name basis. Great local business to support!!!

Yup! Still the best spot in town! Love the team and owners and the food too. Might be neat to see some craft beers even just in bottles. But that’s not really what the hideaway is all about. So I don’t mind getting craft beer elsewhere as long as the atmosphere never changes!

We were on a photo shoot of the barn quilts close to and in Vicksburg. We wanted to have lunch in the area, so I looked on for«lunch Vicksburg.» The Village Hideaway was at the top. So was the Mother Rueben, so all three of us ordered that. Hey, one sandwich might serve two! A very attractive place, staffed to a great extent by family. In any case, all were engaging and pleasant! Highly recommended!

Delicious food, I had the gyro and hubby had the«mother reuben» which I think they are known for. They were both very good. The Reuben was worth the drive, I highly recommend it. The beer selection on tap is a little limited, but a nice bottle selection. Their service is excellent! They work as a team, which is so nice to see. They have excellent reviews on Unilocal, that’s why we’re here. I’m very happy we came, it was worth the trip into Vicksburg.

Was here last week with the misses and enjoyed the lake perch basket, while my wife had the olive burger basket. Both were delivered fresh and hot and in a timely manner. My wife said her burger was one of the best she’d ever had. My perch was some of the best I’ve had also. The staff was friendly and all in all it was a great experience. We live nearby, so we will be back often. The price was right and the portions were good sized. Thumbs up from the both of us.

The food is always great. They have wonderful Grinders. The prices are very reasonable. My husband and I love their Thursday night wings. Your really missing out, if you have not tried this place.

Anybody old enough to remember the monstrous stacked ham sandwich from the Silver Moon on Douglas years ago has to go here for the best example of that I have found in a long, long time. I have to say I damn near teared up with nostalgia with every bite. Yeah, I know its just a sandwich in a bar, but it is a damn good sandwich for the money in a bar that has yet to disappoint me. The choice between the stacked ham and the Reuben from now on is going to be very difficult.

Have had a great meal all but once here. Very friendly staff, great service every single time. I love that we have such a great place in our quaint little village. I have friends who drive from Battle Creek just to eat here. Definitely not the run of the mill bar food.

After having lunch at the Hideaway I decide to share my experience. It turns out I don’t really have to. I intended to describe how I have been on a bit of a quest to find the best Reuben and how I found the best one yet today in Vicksburg, but, Josh M said it all. Every time I try to add to his review I just find myself being redundant. If you like Reuben’s, don’t miss this one.

This is another very specific and limited review. I am not reviewing the restaurant as a whole but mostly a sandwich. First, full disclosure that I know and am personal friends with the head chef. If you choose to ignore what follows based on that information, that’s fair but I’m playing this one straight. That revealed, the Village Hideaway has the best Reuben sandwich I’ve ever had. While I haven’t traveled the world sampling Reubens(I’m waiting on that job offer), it is my favorite sandwich when I don’t want a burger. If it isn’t the best Reuben in the world, it has to be one of the best in Southwest Michigan. It is served on rich, deep dark rye bread that hits the perfect balance of grilled firmness and lush softness. The corned beef itself is not thin deli-style but thick sliced hunks and layers of meat. It is accompanied by the standard cheese, sauerkraut, and dressing but the bread and corned beef are the stars. If you want a subtle soft flavor, this isn’t for you. The meat is thick, dense, and heavily seasoned. It kicks. No one prepares it like Chef Nathan but even when he isn’t in the house, it’s still beyond solid. If you’re light eaters on a date, you could easily split it but order two and take the halves home for your toaster oven. There’s a reason it’s called«The Mother Reuben» and it’s definitely the thing to eat if you’re down in Vicksburg.

The most popular restaurant /bar in Vicksburg. This is where all the locals go! They pour a great drink and are not stingy on the booze. The food is great, portions are large, typical bar food.

Granted this is just a small town bar, but the food is consistently great and the drinks are huge and cheap. You can see the kitchen, which is always clean. I recommend the four-item thin crust pizza, the Scott’s sub, the fried chicken, the steak salad and the burgers. Everything else is good, too, but those are my favorites. My husband and I eat here several times a month.
