I stopped in for lunch with a couple of friends who love Joe K’s. It’s furnished like an old school diner, straight out of the 70’s, except for the flat screen TV’s. Our waitress was friendly and service was good throughout. I had the NY steak sandwich. It was a decent size and quality cut of meat, cooked nicely and still juicy. The lettuce, tomato and onion were sliced fresh. The bun was pretty pedestrian, store bought and definitely the low point of the meal. It did not hold together well and the sandwich would be far better with different bread. The fries were crispy and tasty. They may have even been cut from whole potatoes in the kitchen. My friends each had cob salads that were gigantic and stocked with ingredients that all looked very fresh. The menu is huge. If I were in the area again I would go back to Joe K’s.

I’m giving one star because the experience was horrible. The waitress look like a clown. So much make up on her face she looks like a old timer. She was rude serving. I think they have to change a Alito bit better. The food its ok. But the service sucks. The owner should worry about the service no the food. I’ll never come back.

This is a typical place in Vernon, but it’s decent. It’s your average run-down, old school American restaurant surrounded by industrialized buildings from left to right. My coworkers and I came here for lunch and were split into two tables with 9 of us. The water and drinks were served in a cute Coke glass with a handle, which definitely gave it that classic American feel. As for food, I ordered the California sandwich($ 12.95), which was also recommended by our server. This place is supposedly known for their sandwiches, so I chose that despite having sandwiches for lunch all week. I’m not sure what happened, but my sandwich seemed quite petite compared to my coworkers’ sandwiches, which got me disappointed. Secondly, the meat was dry so I had to stuff it with pickles and condiments. On the other hand, their fries were crispy and seasoned and their portions were large for the most part. Overall, this is an a-okay spot, which I could do without. The plus side was that there’s a $ 35 for $ 50 coupon you can use on Unilocal for this place, so that saved us $ 15 –yay.

Great menu… So many options to chose from. First time I went I ordered the chicken kabob plate and it was delicious!!! Not to mention it was a big portion for just my self. Second time I went I ordered the burger and fries which was delicious. Service was great. The servers were friendly and fast. I told the server I was really hungry and she brought my food real quick. Prices are reasonable as well. I definitely recommend this deli!

I don’t understand why this place only has 3 stars on Unilocal.I went for the first time this past week and had the salmon with rice and side of matzo balls soup. All were so delish! I’ll go back next time to try the other items.

I like traveling and eating in, to places I have never tried. My experience was pretty bad. bone was left In My ham, bacon was over cooked and was nearly dust, order a lemonade and clearly you can see the dish washer«chlorine stains» on the glass(I use to be a dishwasher, so I spotted it real quick, and as an extra bonus the lemonade is not even nature it’s powder ! Let’s not forget the waitresses use their hands for more then one thing while working, and you have the nerve to hand me a knife and fork with your fate hands when I saw it go in your nose ha I want to find out where this«restaurant«scores as a Public health I will make sure a health inspector vists this place. All aside they have preferred customers, I arrive 15min before a pair of two people arrived. But guess who got there order of food first? As an added extra each server went to their table and asked nearly over 8 times on different occasions if they needed anything. On the other hand I didn’t receive 1! What a joke the bill came out to $ 38.45 and they expected a tip for burnt food, slow service, oh and bugs on the tables, flys, ants disgusting to even enjoy your food with all these problems i’m better off at ihop or Denny’s where the food quality, store quality and customer service is better and for the same price ! Been here twice for lunch now and its been great. I had the philly cheesesteak one time then the next time around i had the deli burger. The deli burger was definitely better. A lot of places just can’t seem to make good philly cheesesteak. The deli burger was good though. Had pastrami and corned beef in it i believe. Great filling meal. Fries come with the meal. Also pretty good. Overall just a decent place to grab a bite to eat. Little pricy but not too bad. I see myself coming back here often. Service and staff are super friendly. Décor and vibe of the place is on point. Very old school feel to it.

Whether after an honest days work or you forgot your tin lunch box, Joe K’s the place to be. Dust the asbestos off your work boots and clean the grit off your brow. The décor is aging and food is of a higher quality diner. There is a wide healthy choice menu which is fantastic. My favorite is the cobb salads. Hard boiled egg is slightly greyish over done but I still give it 5 stars. Friendly service and atmosphere for everyone.

We used to frequent this restaurant on the way back to HP(Exit Soto from the Freeway) from customer visits in the Valley. Place is A-OK. Food is A-OK. Prices are probably $ 1.00-$ 2.00/item more than what I would like to see. Nothing on the menu stands out and we have eaten here at least a dozen times in the past few years. Service is the only reason this place is a 3 in my opinion. The waitresses are always polite, taking care of refills on time etc.(+1 star)

This place deserves more then 3 stars. It’s a Gem in a city with nothing good. Now the food isn’t the best(some items on the menu are actually great), but they have many options. The staff is very friendly. Honestly it’s the only decent place in Vernon. Good luck finding anything else.

A sit down deli… meh, but it is rather special in Vernon Food: Deli food — salads and sandwiches and some pasta, etc. All of it is very decent, if boring. The things is, if you put this into context(that it’s in Vernon, aka the dumps) then everything jumps a notch. Service: OK service by the usual overworked servers. They are so overworked that even regulars don’t get good service. Price: So Pricy! I get that you offer a nice sit place to sit down and eat, with full service. I get that you’re a cut above other places in the area. I get that the food itself is unique for the area. That still doesn’t justify a $ 13 pastrami sandwich. Add tip on that and its a total rip. The Rest: Unsurprisingly old timey décor and ambiance. Decent for a lunch. Conclusion: Despite its relative superiority to other choices in the area, its ridiculous price simply is not justified.

I’ve given Joe K’s chance after chance, and it seems like it gets worse every time. I keep thinking«how could they possibly screw up a breakfast burrito?» Well, let me tell you, friend — they have managed to do so for me about 5 times. Fool me 4 times, shame on me. Their slogan is «Just a little bit better.» I suppose that’s a relative statement — but yes, indeed, they are«just a little bit better» than the medical waste facility across the street.

The servers here were really nice and it made me glad I purchased the Groupon deal they offered. I’d never seen this place before when looking for breakfast spots in the area. A coworker and I regularly grab breakfast and we keep ending up at crazy hole in the wall places. Is it so hard to run a decent diner around here? We got a little lost coming here but it is fairly easy to spot from the street if you know where it is located. There’s plenty of parking in their private lot and the restaurant was near empty when we came in. They let us pick a seat wherever we wanted so we grabbed a window booth. I let the waiter know when we came in that we were paying with a Groupon and asked if there were any exclusions(I hate it when you end up getting screwed over fine print). He said nope and we could order anything including specials and juices. I’m glad we tried the juices because they are freshly squeezed. And I mean FRESHLYSQUEEZED! I had the orange and he had the apple. According to him, the apple was almost like a cider. A little thicker than you would expect, but still good. The orange juice was good as well but not as pulpy as I like. They also offer smoothies and if you order 3, you get the 4th free? Or 4, and you get the 5th free? We weren’t that thirsty but maybe we’ll bring a bigger group back next time to try those out! He ordered the steak and eggs special. I was feeling particular that morning and wanted a chicken sandwich with eggs and avocado. It’s not really something that they offer but the server was more than happy to accommodate my request. I had a side of hash browns which ended up being more chopped than hashed. They were a little flavorless aside from the seasoning which I wasn’t fond of. I put some salt on it and it tasted better. The sandwich came out exactly as I had in mind. I do feel like the prices were really high for a diner. I think our check’s full price was around $ 36– for a sandwich, steak and eggs special, 2 juices, and a coffee? Luckily I had the Groupon which saved us some money. Next time I’ll probably stick to the specials as they are priced much better than their other options.

Stopped by to grab a bite before meeting with a client… Ordered the Pacific Melt: TURKEYPATTY, AVOCADO, MUSHROOMS, JACKCHEESEONGRILLEDRYE for $ 10.95 Came with Fries, which were pretty decent. The coleslaw was not so overly sweet nor drenched in its sauce. The sandwich was a hearty size portion, and not too greasy, yay! Clean joint with friendly staff members… though it took forever for the waitress to bring the check… but all in all, it was a great place to grab a bite to eat.

Have you ever driven by a place and just wished it was that diamond in the rough? A place that’s obviously been around forever that you’ve always wanted to stop and check out, but never seemed to have the time to do so? This place fits that description for me and I finally stopped and tried it out. I was making a delivery from Vernon to Downtown with an employee about a month ago and we took the Soto route to the the cluster fuck of freeways around 7th Street. I had traveled this trek many times and while passing the«Farmer John» processing plant have always had my taste buds stirring. No, I don’t eat many hot dogs, but that plant puts out a smell of well seasoned Dodger Dogs and ham for blocks around. And thus we got the urge to eat and stopped here. Seemed like an old school diner from days gone by. Why they call it a deli is still confusing because it’s basically a good old fashioned coffee shop for all extensive purposes. And I was curious. Thus we stopped for a late lunch around 2PM on a Wed. The place was about a quarter filled with customers and we got seated by a Soto facing window. The waitress was nice and informed us that their turkey was fresh and had been slow roasted basically prompting me to order a club sandwich and my employee a turkey sandwich, both with 2 side dishes. Me the potato salad and fruit and my friend fries and something else. I was impressed by the bread selection for the sandwiches, but although the turkey was thickly sliced and fresh, there was no indication to me of any special preparation other than being baked. The homemade potato salad I had was quite tasty and fruit very fresh, fries, well are just that fries. What bothered me though, was although the interior of the diner was very clean, including the bathrooms, it seemed like every damn fly in a 10 mile radius was trying to break through the window and get inside right beside me. None did, but it really made me wonder if the gardeners had come by earlier and added fertilizer to the planters surrounding the restaurant. A big turn off! 50s style diner set-up, decent although priced a little high, a novelty if in the area, but in retrospect a free tour of the nearby«Farmer John» plant may have been a more exciting option.

Where I always eat for free… I work near by this joint, so whenever there is a business meeting, or my bosses want to hang out or some new customer that wants our business, they must wine and dine me at Joe K’s Deli. Ahhhh… life is good. They’re menu is vastly diverse and sort of expensive. Everything is overpriced, but I never pay so what do I care. There isn’t much under $ 9.50, that’s basically the starting price for the majority of the sandwich plates and it only goes up from there… I usually get the bbq beef sandwich which comes with fries and coleslaw. Fries are thick and crunchy, very yum. Coleslaw is sweet and tangy and super fresh. The bbq sandwich is just plain delicious. I can usually only finish half of it due to it’s fluffiness and abundance of roast beef. Everything here is super fresh and made with care. As soon as you sit down, the waitress brings over a plate of diced pickles complementary. I love this, I love pickles… I’ve also had there ceasar turkey pita which is yum and several different salads which are always fresh and bountiful. I’m a fan as long as I don’t have to pay…

DONOTEATHERE! Their prices are high and their specials are just bait and switch. They have a large banner that says«Anniversary Celebration! FREEPANCAKES, 8:00 am — 11:00 am, with any fresh juice purchase.» The trurh is that they force you to purchase a LARGE juice at $ 3.95 to get the FREEPANCAKES. Their are 3 juice drink sizes and it is not any size just the size insist upon. They don’t use the LACounty health inspectors because they are in Vernon so therefore there is NO letter grade rateing posted. Who knows how clean it is and how safe the food is handled except for they pass the City of Vernon’s standards. Unfortunately Vernon is not the city where you want to trust govenment. All in all I will never eat here again. I would rather go somewhere where the prices are reasonable and the specials are not bait and switch.
