This is the 2nd time we came here this summer within a little over a month between visits. We booked it solely based on its convenience to Mountain Creek Waterpark and for it being cheap, …but not so cheap really, rather its more reasonable than the mountain creek lodge rates– we only stayed a night anyway. And we also had a satisfactory first time experience. I originally gave it 3 stars, thought it was a pretty decent hotel for what it is, cheap and convenient. However, upon the second time checking in, it seems as if a whole new management has taken over. Walking through the halls to get to our room, we were greeted by a funky odor that smelled like gym sneakers. The halls were also on the dark side, to possibly save energy I guess. The room itself was a bit stuffy, and we had to play around with the a. c to adjust the temperature to a comfortable one. And even then, it still felt weird. This time, the sink water had a horrible odor when I ran it. Sulphur-like and putrid. When I opened the fridge to cool some stuff, there was already a jug of water there and oranges on the shelf, …from the people before us? Do the maid(s) not clean the rooms entirely after each person checks out? And speaking of maids, I didn’t see a single maid’s cart when I was there… I was only there for 1 night, but I figured I see at least one on the day of check out which was late morning. The first time I was there, I saw a few maids on both days. The only other staff I saw besides the front desk person was a creepy but nice little lady who stood around the desk, though I’m not sure what her job was. They give a complimentary breakfast, and wifi is free. Breakfast was mediocre though, expired yogurt– only 1 day– but still-, make your own waffles, and cereals. Coffee and tea is the best thing there. There’s a deli next door to run to when you want something more fulfilling, but it closes early I believe. I would not 5 star recommend it, but would suggest it to those who want a cheap, convenient place to crash, not expecting fresh scents, butlers, and gourmet meals. its the place you come to when you want to spend a night or 2, but no more. I would like to give it 3 stars, but 2 would have to do for now. They need to make some improvements.

This review is based on the understanding that this is a hotel chain near the mountain in Vernon, NJ. A 5 star would be for the best this hotel could have been based on what they offer, not compared to a resort. We stayed here because we needed a place to crash while snowboarding that wasn’t a bed-and-breakfast. I booked the room(King bed, $ 94.00 Saturday Night) via their website. I used the discounted rate for the rewards program because I thought that meant my AAA card because I saw it offered on 3rd party sites. When I showed up the lady said that’s not the spot for AAA but was happy to leave the discounted rate for me. I’m not sure if AAA would’ve gotten me more money off. I showed up an hour before the 2:00pm check-in and asked to check in early. The older lady behind the desk seemed a little hesitant but said«Well it seems your room has been cleaned, so I can’t say no…» The room was definitely clean and typical size for a hotel of this kind. The whole place has been renovated since it was Days Inn I was told. TV worked great with no annoying delay. We had a large mini-fridge and microwave in the room. Wi-fi seemed like it was working fine. BESTPARTOFTHEROOM: the heat/ac. Worked amazing! Really powerful and in 10 minutes the whole room was 80. turned on the A/C and equally quickly was freezing. The parking spaces are ample and the parking lot/hotel is up on a ledge so no one can see your car from the road for the most part. It’s also brightly lit at night. Free continental breakfast including a fresh self-made waffles, cold cereal, oatmeal, fresh fruit, yogurt, pastries, muffins, coffee, tea, juices. I’d stay again for sure if I planned on snowboarding mountain creek 2 days in a row again… but that’s another review…

I made a reservation for one night(Christmas Eve) at this hotel on the Quality Inn website. I cancelled the reservation 4 days prior to the stay. The hotel still charged me for the reservation. I called the hotel and they told me that there was a second reservation made for the next night(Christmas Day) and that is what I was being charged for. I demanded a refund and was grudgingly told ok. The next day there was no refund. I called again and explained the situation again. Again, I was told there would be a refund put through. The next day — no refund. This went on 2 more days all with the same results. On New Years Eve I called and could not understand the person I was talking to. On New Years Day I called and thought I was going to have a resolution. The person on the phone told me they would call their manager and get back to me in 15 minutes. An hour later I heard nothing. I called back and was told by the same person that the manager stated I needed to call whoever I made the reservation with. I couldn’t call Quality Inn New Years Day, so I called the next day. After 10 minutes on hold with the rewards Service Center, I was told I needed to contact the hotel for any refund. I could also try calling Customer Relations. I then called Custome Relations and after 15 minutes on hold I finally got someone to lodge a formal complaint. They also informed me that the Christmas Day reservation had been entered in by the General Manager based on a phone call but no name was associated with the phone call. The first time I ever called this hotel was after I had been charged for a night not staying there. Customer Relations told me the hotel had 72 hours to contact me and resolve the situation. This is the only positive part of the story. Thirty minutes later I received a call from Barbara and she said she would be entering in a refund today. The next day I looked at my credit card account on line and there was NO refund, so I guess there really is no positive part after all…

One bad thing about growing up in a mountain town? Everyone moves out so there’s no one to ask where to stay when you need to go back because one of your friends insists on getting married in the church where they made communion or some such nonsense. Because of this, my friend, who drove from Virginia to the northernmost tip of New Jersey, and myself, trekking over 3 hours from Philly, arrived at our hotel only to discover that our accommodations would be en plein air – seeing as how whole segments of the buildings façade were removed for construction. Not good. Now when we called to reserve our room, you’d think they might have mentioned that their building looked straight out of Bosnia and was covered in the chalky aftermath of the plastering and subsequent sanding of renovations. But. No. I’m giving them two stars because they allowed us to look at the room and it didn’t look too bad. However, we still felt the noise and dust should have been disclosed and we tried to book another room somewhere else. But that’s another bad thing about growing up in a mountain town – there’s only one other hotel and it’s probably booked.
