Decent quality and service but it takes and exorbitant amount of time to get your food.

I eat here every month or so. Food is fair to good. Moderate quality and portion. Service fair. Big attraction to elderly/senior folks that like retro diner feel and discounts for being old. Could be a little tidier. Big attraction is the community room that looks like it can hold a couple dozen guests … Rare these days. Overall, it’s ok, but no need to make a special trip.

Ok, so I am not the kind to stay mad at breakfast(or people for that matter). So I stopped back in. Nose wipey server is still there but luckily she kept her hands off her face on the days that prompted an updated review; I watched her around my food-stuff in a manner that would have bordered on obsessive– if you pegged me for a control freak, kudos to your assessment skills. The change I noticed was that there was a grown man running the kitchen. I don’t begrudge teens their part time gigs but I prefer my professionals to be practiced grown ups. My last few trips had young men(early twenties, late teens) manning the pans/grills. This time, my hash omelet was great, melty and good. I got precisely what I asked for. Score one for team grown up… My food was good. I have no complaints. Since my last run of sloppy errors and meh food, I have stopped in twice, after months of deliberate snubbing due to bad experiences, for a quick breakfast and both times the experiences have been ok. So, I hereby declare that Mitchell’s is capable of providing good service and food and have I mentioned Hosmer– they have Hosmer soda. They also have some great staff that know what they are doing(and others that wipe their nose without washing their hands but are working on it). Anyways, Mitchell’s and I are working on our relationship and are making progress.

I came here for the first time Saturday, 2 adults 2 five year olds. We waited about 3 minutes then a spot at the counter opened up(it was about 930am). This was great because that’s where the kiddos wanted to sit and it saved us from a meltdown if they tried to seat us in a dreaded booth. Right after we sat down someone acknowledged us and she said she’d be right back with coffee. It was at least 10 minutes before someone came back, but considering it was rush hour and we didn’t have to wait for a seat we didn’t mind. They had a nice assortment of entertainment for the little’uns. Oddly enough they were the only kids in the place. No one gave us evil looks or seemed annoyed so it was all good. The food wait was what would be expected for a Saturday. The kid entertainment earned them quite a few bonus points. They were quiet, it was a miracle. Everyone loved their food. We ate more than we should’ve and we were ok with that. I came back the following Monday alone. I sat down and was promptly greeted by the free-spirited Katie. She seemed like she knew her stuff. It wasn’t packed, but there were plenty of people. I ordered the Phenomlette and I got it in less than 5 min. They weren’t freakin’ kidding, this omelette was legit. Perfect combo of ingredients. The only omelette that can compete with this is Barbara Lee’s in Kentucky. I can safely say this is the BEST omelette in town. Then there are the potatoes. I never like the home fries in NE. These were great. I was sad I didn’t eat them Saturday. Again, I ate more than I should. I probably shouldn’t share this, but oh well: after I completely stuffed my face I ordered a «small» chocolate chip pancake to top it off. The dang thing was about 8″ and super tasty. Don’t worry, I didn’t eat the whole thing. Price is about average for breakfast in the area, but the food is better than most. Katie was great and made me feel welcome. There were the usual old timers bantering about, which is awesome. This is 30 min from my house and still will be my new go-to breakfast spot!

The Staff was friendly and very accommodating. I was there with 7 friends and everything that was ordered looked amazing! This is one of those spots where the cook puts his/her love into the dishes. I would absolutely recommend this place! You want be disappointed.

Food was great — on par with what I was expecting — diner type food. I had been here years ago and have no complaints there. Where Mitchell’s loses some stars is regarding the service. Our poor waitress had to serve every single table by herself!!! I definitely felt for her and wasn’t mad, but there is no way you can give good service to 10+ tables all at once. It did take awhile for her to take our order etc. I can’t blame her at all, but she shouldn’t have been all alone to fend for herself.

This is my favorite local breakfast spot! Clearly I’m not alone since it’s busy with happy customers through the lunch hour. I am rarely there for dinner, but I know its popular. The very friendly wait staff are helpful and attentive, without intruding. Breakfast is available all day. I love the many veggie options for my omelette and the option for fresh fruit cup and gluten free toast. Coffee is hot and smooth. I’ve never had a bitter cup. A gem about this place is their private room. It’s large enough for 60 or so people(my estimate) and has its own bathroom, which I think is a real plus. Liz Merluzzo is happy to help you plan an event within your budget and is very accommodating about menu choices. A recently created large parking lot in back had made using this room a plus. It’s the largest, most private room in town. The Merluzzos are a great, supportive community family.

I love this place. The staff is always friendly and the food is always fresh. The roasted turkey in any sandwich is just the best. This is real turkey not processed. Great breakfast, great spuds and really good specials that are very tasty. Love the coupons he offers in the hometown magazine. Keep up the good work.

The bacon was awesome and so was the marbled toast. The French toast was OK, but got ruined because the syrup was ice cold. The potatoes were luke warm. I asked for scrambled eggs with cheese but the cheese was just a congealed mess on top of the eggs so I pulled it off. The wait staff was friendly and quick.

I like this place for breakfast. The service staff is nice and the food is pretty darn good. I was introduced to this place by an ex, and still go there despite the obvious danger I may run into him again. I like their coffee. Usually the coffee is too weak for me at certain places that serve breakfast, but not here. The strength is spot-on, and they always have a gourmet roast special for the day up on the chalkboard. I like to make my own omelet– jalepenos, american cheese, and bacon. The eggs, for me, are always cooked appropriately and the fillings are always correct for me(I saw that some people have complained about these two things but I’ve never experienced it– and have come here at least a dozen times. I will say that while I really enjoy the spuds– the spice mixture is spot on– I know that they are canned sliced potatoes, and it’s somewhat unappealing. The wait staff is always nice, and helpful.

First time here! The service was superior! I don’t know the name of my waitress… she has a really cute bobbed haircut– she was phenomenal. As far as the food I got the Belgian waffle eggs and bacon to go. Waffle was delicious– nice light and crispy. Eggs and bacon were good – Just tasted like eggs and bacon. The oatmeal was not my usual steel cut goodness, but it worked for me. Some guy that was bussing tables(I think) and putting silverware out had an itchy nose and used his shirt to take care of it. I gave him a look, but I’m thinking that’s a habit. Don’t men use hankies anymore?(Sigh). Glad mine was to go. Overall, breakfast was good–(I just didn’t feel like cooking today) I wouldn’t do this daily… just as a treat.

SOGOOD! I had no idea this place was so close to me because it’s on a route I usually don’t take. I went there for dinner and got breakfast! That is my favorite thing to do and I’m glad this place serves it. I’m not sure how the other food is, but breakfast seems to be their specialty. I had the waffle with a side order of bacon, and it was perfect. All of it. I pretty much inhaled my food. I will definitely go there again. Friendly atmosphere and quick service. Décor feels a bit dated, but it’s definitely a local hangout.

Great breakfast! The good never disappoints. The staff is also attentive and eager to make your dining experience great. Place is filled with regulars but not weird to go of you are not. Place gets very busy on weekends but it well worth the wait. Spuds are fantastic. pancakes are HUGE! Omelets are my personal favorite. Specials always are tempting too. Coffee is great. Overall a great place in Vernon.

Just an update… this place never, ever disappoints. A fantastic Father’s Day Breakfast here this morning. And the joint hadn’t kicked into high gear yet. Service was sweet and prompt. And as usual, the coffee was delish. Gotta say… the go to place in town for the first meal of the day. Do it. Go. Now. Your taste buds will thank you.

Mitchell’s is a nice local place, with breakfast seeming to be its main seller(though they do serve other meals/food as well). If you’re in the area and need some breakfast, give it a shot. ~ Food ~ The omelets and spuds(home fries) have been good each time I’ve gotten them. They go heavy on the ingredients in the omelets, which is fine by me. The pancakes are pretty big, and although the chocolate chips are a bit expensive of an «add-on», they put in so many that the price makes sense. Unless they’re all you’re having(and you’re very hungry), I wouldn’t get more than two. ~ Service ~ The service is reasonably quick, and is more or less on-par with what I expect of a diner. They could be a little more attentive, but seems OK given how much they’re running around. Besides, I’m not shy and don’t mind flagging someone down. One consistent complaint I’ve had during my numerous visits would be that they seem to have little to no focus on collecting payment/explaining how I should pay(do I go up to the register, or wait here?). Seems like a potentially valuable time-saving correction, considering you often have to wait for a table at Mitchell’s during weekend breakfast hours. ~ Atmosphere /Cleanliness ~ The crowd is a full age-range selection of locals, and the space is a no-frills utilitarian layout(excluding the separate banquet area, which I haven’t really even looked at). Standard booths & tables, standard wall hangings/knick-knacks. The faux hardwood floor is a little worn out, but seems clean enough. The bathrooms are typically really nice/clean, an observation that I always find reassuring.
