I’m so glad that there’s a new home for The House of Magic. Its such a nice organization that is trying to bring the arts to the public. I first became acquainted with the House of Magic when they were in their old location near the Coca Cola Factory. I was part of the Kendo class that would come in on Thursdays. Anyways, at that location they were building a village in which multiple art practices can coexist in a single community. The classes ranged from improve, music, to dancing, and even martial arts. I’ve only been to this new location once but I’ll definitely come back again. I’m currently trying out the beginner salsa class(which I have to say is a lot of fun). It takes some getting use to, but after the first 20 minutes you’ll learn to not trip up all over the place.

What a surprise! Located an a rather industrial part of Ventura, there’s a building called The House of Magic! And magical it rather is! I went here yesterday for a free salsa class taught by a man named Daniel. The class is 6:30 — 7:30pm every Wednesday night followed by a more intermediate class from 7:30 — 8:30pm. Drop in fee for the second class is $ 15 or $ 40/month. No partners necessary and no former dance skills necessary. I’ve danced previously in college and this brought back a lot of good memories. He does rotate the guys and the girls stand still in their line which is pretty consistent with most salsa dance class. The people attending the classes were polite and you don’t feel uncomfortable dancing with these strangers. Everyone is there to learn and just have a good time! My friend and I will definitely be coming back… I mean, why not?! it’s free after all ;)

The facility is still under construction which leads to versatile classroom situations. I am currently taking Improv classes on Monday nights, so the changing up of the instruction site lends to creativity. Also on Mondays there is a Martial Arts class being taught, so there is a lot of positive energy in the building. The owners are very community minded and allow many uses, such as toy collection and distributions site, and benefit concerts. I understand that there are magic shows and classes and dance classes also.

It’s like Disneyland for artists, musicians, dancers… with a delightful way of giving you an experience you will never forget.
