I have problem hair but Missy always makes my hair look great! She’s incredibly talented, conscientious and creative! I’m very grateful to have found Missy; she’s by far the best hair stylist I’ve ever gone to!

Missy is amazing. I have been coming to her for almost ten years. She does an amazing job on my hair and her prices are really reasonable. I would recommend her to anyone looking for a good stylist/​colorist in Ventura.

I love love love my haircut! Frantically trying to schedule a salon appointment the day of, especially when that day is a Saturday, is usually going to be an unsuccessful endeavor. Luckily, I texted New Birds for an appointment and was told that Kirsten might be available — and, sure enough, she made time for me right when I called! She perfectly translated what I wanted into reality and I could not be happier. love this haircut! So accommodating! Kirsten is the best.

Absolutely the best! Kirsten gave me the perfect hair cut. Great service not only conversation wise, but end-​product and time as well. Loved the salon layout. Located centrally in Ventura, right next to the local Big Lots. Couldn’t do better and will definitely be back/​recommend.

When I first moved to Ventura I spent alot of time trying to find a talented stylist without paying super high prices. I am happy to say my search came to an end. I have been coming to Candice for over a year now and she does an awesome job every time! She’s very experienced and super personable. Not to mention extremely affordable for the quality of her work. I would highly recommended trying out New Birds!

Missy is thee MASTER and there is no better! I could end it there but you need to know…
I have really straight hair and I like my haircuts short but I don’t want to look like a cop, a marine or a football coach. My hair also reveals all mistakes and inconsistencies. Not with Missy. There are no mistakes. She gets it. She knows what will work with the shape of my face, head and hairline. A few times I’ve asked for something a little different and she’s told me why it will or won’t work and she has always been right. The lady has skills and talent. A true expert in her field. Every haircut, ever, has always been perfect. Missy Gibbs is professional, honest, passionate, funny, communicative and easy going.
I also love the shop. It has great atmosphere and I love the music she plays. She even has an area that showcases and sells crafts and wares of local artists. I often hang out in the seating area while my wife gets her hair done and I always enjoy myself. Great magazines, free coffee and the general buzz is fun.
I must add, I live in SF and actually plan my trips to So Cal with a haircut at Missy’s specifically in mind. Take that in… I live in SF and drive 5 hours to get the perfect haircut.

I finally found a talented local hairstylist!!! Candice is AMAZING! she really knows what shes doing and gives you exactly what you want.

A friend several years ago was talking about an amazing stylist that she gone to that could always get her hair exactly the way that she wanted it. I had overheard her conversation and asked who she went to. She said that she went to a stylist named Missy in Ventura. I got her number and gave her a call.
Well, flash forward thirteen years and Missy is still my hair stylist. She is the best! Every time she does my hair I receive compliments and I have even had strangers ask me who does my color (super blonde). I love her! She even did my hair when I was married 8 years ago :)
I will never have another pair of hands on my hair, period.
She is one of a kind!

I recently moved to Ventura, & I hadn’t gotten my hair done in over a year, and was a lil embarrassed about going into a new salon with my hair in such bad condition, on top of having a salon phobia from a streak of terrible experiences, and I have to say, I loved this place!
Candice was amazing, Got a great cut for a great price, and she immediately put me at ease! Love the vibe of the salon, Very friendly.
Walked out with EXACTLY what I wanted.
Definitely going back. She was recommended to me, and I would recommend her to everyone.

Candice has been doing my hair for a few years, and I always love her work! She can do any style you want — classic, punk, whatever. She doesn’t try to talk you into something you don’t want. She knows how to work with the texture of your hair, your lifestyle, etc. She’s professional & honest. And really nice. :-)

Frankly, I am surprised there are only 3 reviews for New Birds. However, not surprising that they are all 5 stars. This place is great! Awesome ladies, very talented and very sweet. I’ve had my unruly hair cut and colored by both Candice and Missy and they both have done a better job than anyone else I’ve been to. On top of that, the prices are INCREDIBLE! Plus, they always have cute homemade crafts for sale. I always leave with a smile, new earrings and an awesome mane. Love this place!!!

Missy isn’t scary, she values punctuality in a time when punctuality is a quality from a bygone era. That makes her an American hero at a time when America needs heroes most. Actually, the deal is that she’s saved my hair when I’ve gone from jet black to «virgin snow» when everyone knows you can never really be a virgin again. She’s reasonable and fair and after six years, I’d never go anywhere else. I think she needs a new sign, though, something neon and Vegas-​esque.

I LOVE Newbirds! It’s a funky little salon with funky stylists. I always walk away ecstatic about my hair, and the price is right. Today I paid $ 25.00 for a foxy haircut with Candice. This price is almost unheard of for a quality cut!
I walked in with a vague idea of what I might want (which is always risky, right?), and I walked out with an awesome haircut I couldn’t be happier with.
I’ve also had my hair cut and colored by Missy and she does excellent work, too.
Both Missy and Candice are hair goddesses. I am always happy the day of the cut, and beyond.

I’m gonna be honest. I find Missy to be a little scary. But my fear of her is outweighed by my complete trust in her ability as a stylist. She’s an artist.
I don’t know if it’s just me but after just two haircuts with her she understood me. I would bring the pictures I liked in stumbling over my words, barely even understanding what I wanted and she would manage to translate my awkwardness into some freaking awesome haircuts.
She knows I love my hair short and funky. And when I say funky, she knows exactly what that means. My plain, boring exterior does not reflect what I want to be going on with my hair. She does short hair great!
I have NEVER come away from a haircut with her dissatisfied. I may come away feeling a bit shell-​shocked, but with it also comes this new found confidence that a woman (or man) can only find when they look good.
Even when I stray from her in hopes of trying something different and new I come back because I realize that there really isn’t anyone like her.
So, if she’s taking on new clients, make an appointment. You will not regret it.
