The March 17 Green Art Crawl will be centered around Windward Blvd near the beach but there will also be events on Abbot Kinney and all over Venice. Look for a map at Danny’s Venice, or at Aust or just download the Venice Boardwalk App by texting VENICE to 444999 and follow it around on your phone that night. It’s a fun self guided tour of a insider view of outsider Venice art and upscale fine art at galleries like LA Louver and CAVE Gallery.

Pretty simple, my 1rst Art Crawl after moving here is where I met most of the people who are my friends today. I’ve loved every one of them. They are a perfect blend of art and heart, not pretentious yet inspiring, inclusive and uplifting. These parties are what the spirit of Venice is about: a big, beautiful smile. See you at the next one ;)

The Sept VAC was by far the BEST one I’ve been to. I felt like I was in a mini, not hot, not dusty, I can go home and sleep and quiet and shower burning man. There were lot’s of vehicles covered in lights, a car that was being spray painted/tagged while a woman danced on the roof and a mini crown dancing to amazingly DJ’s music. Plus there were so many great galleries and spaces were showing art. I’m looking forward to the next VAC!

I’m an artist, and it does hurt to give this review, but I feel there needs to be a lot of improvements to make this easier for the viewers. Attending the Venice Art Crawl and the LA Art Walk, really made me miss Chicago’s art walk, where everything is easily labeled and all the studios are next to each other. Which makes it easy, you don’t have to walk very far to find it. And there always a huge crowd so you know where to go, and there’s always people directing you. The people who run Chicago’s art walks, knows how to do it well, so it really upsets when I come here and find the art walks here to be all over the place. Cons: –If you are new to this you’ll find yourself wondering around, some times down empty dark street trying to get to the next venue. –Some studios claimed to be open during the Art Walk, but they are not. –The art works that are displayed in shops, bars, and restaurants… no one there even has a clue there are artworks up. People come there to shop, drink and eat only. –Surprisingly not a lot of people attend these art walks, I guess people here don’t find it is as big of a deal like the ones in Chicago. I find it odd that there wasn’t enough going on, especially since Venice Art Crawl only shows a few times a year. I find Venice Art Crawl to be more of a social gathering. Only a few studios did a good job putting together their show, where they actually display the art work, showing you where to go, how to view the work, and discuss the work with you, and presenting the artists to you. Pro: um…well…I did find some talented people. Its worth checking out if you don’t mind the cons. I will continue to go to Venice Art Crawl because I do find good artists. I just wish they did a better job putting together these events.

Love the VAC, and all the organizers. All my friends and I head out every third Thurs to really enjoy the Venice scene. Grab a map or download one from the VAC website, and for more info/updates, become an FB fan. There is no Venice event that I look more forward to. The art is mixed, some phenomenal, some mediocre, and some just plain ghastly, but this event is about the artists, and the community, working together, inspiring each other, and, dare I say it, partying together. Every crawl allows the community to bond more, as well as form new tangents as new people are introduced to the scene. The after hours are loads of fun, and I even met my boyfriend at the gas station at last October’s event. If you’re an artist, a person with a locale or home willing to donate your space, or a mere art lover, come on board. This is a great way to gain exposure, instill a sense of community, and have an amazing time.

Must have arrived too late. Came at 8PM on their opening date, August 19th and the Boardwalk was dead. There was some leftover mammoth sculptures on some of the small streets off of the boardwalk, and of course, off of Windward Street, but otherwise dead. I would have given this a 1 star but JUSTINCASEEVERYTHING happened the first hour and a half and then EVERYONE packed up by 8PM and I just missed it, I gave this crawl a 3.

*** Best LA art crawl of the year … by far really … imho. *** I did Culver, Miracle Mile, DTLA and now Venice art walks. The biggest difference is that this art crawl had«it» going on. This event is 6−9pm on 3rd Thurs of each mo starting Aug’10. I saw some of the finest art works ever here, as well as some of the worst. But all the while, I had a blast of a time in Venice! Venice is made for artists really. It is earthy. It’s real. It’s unreal. It creates culture where creatives flourish, and really … it shows. I didn’t have nearly enough time in 3 hours to completely do the entire crawl. I just picked one corridor … Windward and Pacific. There I may have made 10 stops and each one was interesting. Hotel Erwin was a f’g blast … props to resident artist, Larry Bell. That dude is mad cool. He has been work’n his trade for 50yrs. My next fave spot was 73 Market St, Horowitz Ferrini & Biondi. This joint wasn’t even on an event map … but hey, it’s way cool! I dug this joint from beginning to end: unassuming brick façade, where you climb up an old stairway to a 2nd floor viewing level, only to discover that there is also a third floor viewing level too. Art work here was a collective of paint, woodwork & sculpture. Seriously, I think that I could’ve spent the entire evening here? *** Of course I’ll ret’n next mo; I’ve only scratched the surface. ***
