My mother is law has been at this location for some time. Let’s be honest to start off… eldercare in the United States is very challenging for sure so there is nothing like being at your own home with your own family taking care of you. That being said I give 5 stars to this facility primarily because of the relationships that our family has forged with the administration staff and care-givers for my mother in law. The challenges are many for these types of facilities but if i consider the totality of my mother in laws circumstances, and the overall care she is given… I really would not be fair if I did not give them 5 stars. The staff has been open to communication and has addressed all of our concerns from day 1. Sometimes there is no simple or perfect solution to the care concerns of my mother in law but in the end I give an A for effort to everyone who works there for at least making a good effort to reasonably and honestly deal with the reality of senior care. One tip I can offer is that if you are planning on having a loved one stay at this location your first stop should be to see Heather Schmeigal, office administrator. She is wonderful. If you walk away from her feeling like you can’t get respectable care or an open and honest opinion on care for your loved one then you probably wont find it anywhere else in Venice.

My mom was admitted March 8th and today is April 30th. Along her time at Manor Care my mom was being told it was unsafe for her to go home and she should go to ALF. She was under the understanding between Joesph the social worker and the state Medicaid rep that they were trying to find her a place with available beds and that’s why they were keeping her longer. Now on April 28th I receive a call from Susan Haley social worker saying she is being discharged home in 2 days. Really? Now it’s ok to go home? Or paid days ran out? Her condition hasn’t changed so why were they hanging on to her to run her Medicare days out? Keep their beds full and now they ran out and the give the family 2 days? The state rep was even surprised on this! Never contacting the family until 2 days before discharging and sending someone home that has no business going there in my eyes is a horrible crime. No communication until the days/$ is out. Why did she have to stay as long if she was going home? Is the answer to use all her days up? I am filing a complaint with the state and Medicare office. By the way the head of nursing Marilyn refused to give me a signed paper that it was safe for my mom to return to her home alone. What does that tell you?

I’ll update this review — This is based on just my father’s first day. Facility attempts to be cheerful, but it’s obvious they are understaffed and overworked. Front receptionist is very nice and exterior grounds look good. Biggest problem is that my father is suffering from a major lung ailment and the air conditioner has been broken for more than a week. The other patient in the room complained more than a week ago and the staff will only say a new unit has been ordered. Remember, this is Florida where the heat is in the 90s and the humidity is crazy. I’ve demanded a new room but they claim none are available. And other rehab centers in Venice are worse than ManorCare. I’ve already sent a message to headquarters to get this fixed quickly. I’ll update on when/if they respond.
