I love this place!!! The owner, Ester, is a sweetheart. The food is awesome and they have a great happy hour. It’s a must if you visit Venice Beach. I live 1 block away and have to come here weekly. Everyone is super friendly. The blue crab handroll will the be the best thing you’ll ever have in your life

More expensive than it was worth. The staff was nice but the food relatively bland.

Ok Hama is a Venice staple! I have been coming here for years. And it’s been around so long. They happy hour is really fun they have a solid menu(although it doesn’t seem much cheaper) and it’s always a good time. Amongst my friends there is mixed opinions about the sushi but I’m always happy. I will go back for years to come!

The staff at this place it’s got to be the nicest people I’ve ever met in my life. I never met such a helpful people in a restaurant. Also you can walk in the door and get a table even on a Friday night. That’s something you can not do that other sushi places. I will definitely be coming back

Our go to spot for sushi. We have our sushi chef who we always ask for. She is terrific. I highly recommend the seared ono, the grilled ika, the tuna tartare, and any roll you like with smelt eggs on the outside to give it sweetness. Never had a bad meal and we have been going for years. Just went Saturday night and it was stellar as usual.

I’m giving this place 4 stars — the kind service takes this place to that level. The hostess was very pleasant when entering and accommodated our seating request. The server was so nice, timed the food well and didn’t rush as at all. Then upon leaving the staff was so nice and offered us more saki… it was New Year’s Eve. The food is good. This place is more on the lines of a place where you come and get interesting tasting rolls(opposite of a place like Sugarfish/Nobu). We had the strawberry roll, green devil and Shiso Lemon Roll. All were very good. I was pleasantly surprised by the strawberry roll. And the Shiso Lemon was by far my favorite, so light and fresh tasting. We also ordered appetizers… beef dumplings, vegetable tempura and crispy rice. I loved that the dumplings and tempura were not oily or greasy. And the crispy rice… we had two orders! Would definitely recommend to someone looking for a fun dinner within the Venice area.

A long time Venice institution. Excellent quality sushi and sashimi. I particularly like their Chirashi, which is only available at lunchtime. Top quality. They also have a good happy hour, though you have to be sitting at the bar and space is limited. If you go when it’s busy, be prepared for it to be noisy, which is just part of the vibe there… a fun place to go when you feel like partying.

I love sushi… This place is about 5 mins away from our place. Hubby and I come on special occasions. We came over on Saturday to get ready for our half marathon for the following morning… We had the crunchy roll, tuna roll, avocado roll and some sake… It was delicious! We will be coming soon.

Fun, relaxed, casual atmosphere, with average to decent sushi. If you’re a happy-hour hound, then you’ll love this place. Sit at the bar where you’ll get a very decent array of cheap-yet-decent sushi eats; even better when you’re served by the very adorable, trapeze princess Blair, who makes it über fun. Service in the main dining area is hit-or-miss, but that’s to be expected in a place this casual in Venice. Quality of the food is probably not for the sushi connoisseur snob, but it does a decent job when you have a craving, and the value for money is forgiving on the wallet. Thank god for the valet parking when the streets are full.

A Venice institution, Hama is known by most of the locals. Last night was my third visit or so(I’m not a local, but was dining with one who knew other locals dining there). Anyhow, you’re there because it’s the local joint with a fun atmosphere. The sushi isn’t great, and it’s not that bad either. The hot items are a little hit and miss. I’ll probably go back, but only for happy hour.

This may be my dream restaurant. Bangin sushi, surf movies projected onto the walls, 90’s grunge rock, and a comfortable/casual atmosphere with the paper lanterns. Also their birthday ritual is amazing(I won’t spoil the surprise) Highly recommend the spicy tuna and spicy yellowtail Maki and as always add avocado. And definitely sit on the right side when you walk in. Can’t wait to come back.

I am so in love with Hama Sushi, I wish I ventured over to Venice more often! Had lunch with friends here a few weeks back and was totally surprised about how fresh and authentic everything was. I had the Spicy Tuna Rolls and some Miso Soup, not a large order but it was enough to full me up. Our waitress was fun, courteous and prompt and the whole experience was incredible! Will definitely return!

Sushi: Best Salmon I’ve ever had. Toro equally amazing. Avocados are super fresh. Conclusion: Fish is fresh. Price to quality ratio is reasonable. Hidden away around the east bend of the roundabout. Will be returning!

Came here on a whim while out on the town. Great find! Ambience & staff were great. Prices are reasonable. The sushi is absolutely delicious. All the slices were hearty and just melted in my mouth. Rice was the perfect consistency. The avocados that they use were perfectly ripe. Definitely going to come back. :)

Amazing sushi! If you like spice I highly recommend the spicy edamame and the small peppers. I loved the Temptation Roll and the Strawberry Roll(if you like a little sweetness to do your dishes this is your roll!) We made a reservation on a Tuesday or else we would have waited. The food was great and worth the prices. Our waitress was a little slow but totally friendly and nice! The mango martini didn’t taste like mango but hey it’s still a drink!

It’s been a while since I’ve visited my favorite sushi place in Venice. Same great staff with excellent service and the owner Esther loves to mingle with her customers and makes you feel right at home. I ordered my usual calamari salad and strawberry roll which both did not disappoint. I decided to try something different today and also ordered the green devil as well as the crispy rice cake. Both were a little spicy so if you like spicy food these are both winners! The green devil roll had spicy tuna with jalapeño Masago which was extremely delicious. I finished off with a tempura ice cream which still amazes me that they can deep fry ice cream without Melting it. I hope to visit Hama again soon when I visit the Venice area again!

Hama Sushi is a nice Japanese sushi restaurant with a good happy hour. The happy hour is only at the bar from 4pm to 7pm. They no longer serve ramen which is a bummer but I guess the new chef decided to take it off the menu. The other sushi items, edamame, gyoza among other things are priced low. They also have Japanese beer, sake and bamboo shots. The bamboo shot looks pretty cool but I didn’t try it. The staff is friendly and I enjoy coming here whenever I am in Venice. The seating is split into two different sections. A more«indoor» area on the left that is by the sushi bar and then a more«outdoor» area on the right. The outdoor area is where the bar is and it has a tarp like covering that allows sunlight through. Tables are arrange for seating of four and the bar area can get pretty busy with stools for about 15 or so people. We stayed past 7 and they have a couple projectors that play video as the night goes on. The interior is lit by Christmas lights among Japanese lanterns. It was someones birthday and they made an announcement notifying the whole restaurant and then participating in song and light flashing. It was pretty neat. Hama Sushi would be one of my regular spots if Venice was my home. (Side note: The bathroom here is located in the back of the left section and it is very modern and clean.)
