i’m reading the reviews and I’m wondering why they are so bad. I know they got a new chef– so maybe that’s why it’s shifted– but I’m from LA and I eat good sushi. I love Sushi and I know good sushi. it’s certainly good sushi here at a great price with incredible ambiance and good wait staff. I wouldn’t say it’s the ‘best sushi in town’ but it’s good shushi and way mellower then some other over-hyped sushi spots around. I like the place. The people were nice. there was a place to sit outside next to a fire, and you could warm up with a blanket if you wanted. it was cool. the manager even gave us a free dessert because it was slow and we chatted a bit. everyone in my group was delighted. i would go again.

Stayed at Hotel Erwin. Wanted sushi. The concierge didn’t recommend this place. We looked at Unilocal.I don’t know what we read because we decided to go. Oh well, at least nobody got sick. There were three people in our group and only one didn’t seem bothered by the food. He was from Vegas, so maybe he isn’t accustomed to the freshest of fish(sorry Tommy). I figured we were in good shape being that close to the water, but I was wrong. I give 1 star for ambiance, because the place was nice. During our visit, another couple got into a heated debate with several members of the wait staff. I felt bad for the waitress who was taking abuse, but she called in reinforcements who weren’t as friendly. Spare yourself. Try somewhere else. Hama has much better reviews.

I was in town for business(staying at the Hotel Erwin which is awesome, btw), so this place was right across the street. I sat at the bar and the sushi chef wasn’t terribly busy, so she(yes, the rare female sushi chef!) carefully made everything to order. The quality of the fish was good, and the service was friendly. I thought the whole experience was a little bit overpriced, and I was frankly a little annoyed that they took the liberty of adding the tip to my bill, but I feel like a got a decent meal with a little bit of Venice atmosphere, so I would go back.

Never will we ever go to this place again, bummer. We LOVE LOve love MIdori Sushi in Studio City. $ 22/lunch & $ 26/dinner. Rice is flavorful, the ono, albacore & salmon our favorites with tasty garnishes. Living on the westside gives no option for all you can eat sushi so we were hoping to have a yummy alternative nearby. Nope! Cute décor but don’t let it fool you. Café Sushi was tough, rice was gross and in a massive proportion underneath each piece of fish that you must eat to be served more. Ugh. We added up our sushi from the menu to make sure we ate the $ 50 worth($ 25/pp at dinner time which is 4−7pm and an extremely limited list of options. no ono?!) Then they pour this weird oily salad dressing stuff on some of the sashimis. Im guessing its to cover the not so tasty fish theyre serving you. My boyfriend gagged. The aftertaste that remained for hours reminded us theres only one place to overindulge on the yummiest sushi you’ve ever tasted, its MIDORI!(studio city location the best of the 3 on Ventura Blvd)

I live in the neighborhood and had heard some good reviews of this place from friends. I’d been wanting to take my co-workers here for lunch and we we finally got a chance to go today. We were all suprised to see bad reviews on Unilocal. After eating @ Café Sushi, I can assure you they are unwarranted. The service was good and the food was fresh. They were also kind enough to make some slight accommodations for the vegetarian in the group.

Fish quality is on par or maybe a little better than your typical all-you-can-eat sushi place(so, not great). The menu is large with lots of rolls and some udon/tempura/teriyaki rice bowls etc. As with marcy, I got a distinct chemical(bleach?) taste in a couple things. I thought maybe I was crazy. Sad to see I’m not, in this case. My hopes for a good cheap sushi place are a bit dashed. I’ll try it again in a little while to see if they’ve improved.

I’m sorry to see a bad review here. I too visited Café Sushi with my bf when he found the menu with all the coupons on it. It’s walking distance to my house and since it’s new they are very eager to please. We loved it. The sushi was fresh and delicious and the pieces were generous. I have been to other all-you-can-eat sushi places and for them to charge you for what you don’t eat is actually normal. That way you get just what you can eat and I think it’s fair. In South Beach we used to go in big parties and bring friends who can eat ALOT just to make sure we ate everything we ordered, we made a game out of it. I think the Sushi Chef(Shawn?) is also the owner but I could be wrong about that. We offered him a drink and he treated us like a bro for the rest of the dinner, offering us extra samples and clueing us in on what was best. Everything was fresh and delicious. We will definitely be back for more.

i was excited when someone hung a menu for café sushi on my door last week. they have a sushi happy hour from 8:30 — 10pm. all you can eat sushi for $ 19.95! wow! so my bf and i decided to check it out. it’s korean owned, cute place right on speedway. guys, they have a lot of cute waitresses too :) things to note: — if you order all you can eat, everyone in your party must order the same thing. lame. — if you can’t finish something on your plate, they charge you for it. lame. choose wisely. there are lots of rolls on the all you can eat menu, some basic sushi, some teriyaki dishes and some noodle dishes — a small sake is only $.99 and it’s not bad! — the fish is horrible. i wish i didn’t have to say this but i could hardly swallow some of it. — the tamago is the strangest, nastiest egg i’ve ever eaten. — the rice tastes like chemicals — the salad dressing is too sour — the green tea is excellent! — there were two of us eating for $ 19.95 each and they included gratuity automatically which i thought was strange. all in all, i would NEVER eat here for the all you can eat sushi but i didn’t try anything else on the menu which is why i’m giving it two stars instead of just one.
