The online banking could use some improvements

This credit union is a good option to the other banks in the area. The people there are great and the checking is free. They also have good rates on loans and you earn a good amount on CDs etc. highly recommend for standard banking requirements

I’ve been a customer at various credit unions over the years, some terrible, some decent. The Pacific Northwest seems to be seriously lacking in credit union exposure; they’re mostly teller machines in Albertsons or hidden on the side of run down strip malls rather than a clean, walk-​in facility as with most of the banks.
After purchasing my first home, I decided to upgrade the windows and possibly add air conditioning with a small loan — I have most of the cash on hand, but figured I would use the loan to maximize what I purchased. After getting a few quotes from various providers, one of them suggested I try PSCCU for the «EnergySmart» loan rather than paying cash. Obviously, he was trying to shill product and I declined, but later went back to apply.
First, their application is not automatic. After submitting the information it gets routed to a rep, who will then contact you to either ask for more information or give you the results of the application. I’m ok with a manual review process, but in PSCCU’s case (and the reason their score is so low), there’s NO information given and no flex with their decision. EnergySmart loans may very well be a home equity loan, as mine was denied for an unknown reason (I don’t have a lot of equity yet, after all I just bought it!).
The biggest problem is that they can’t give you any sort of indication whether your application is approved or not even after running credit. To me this is a huge red flag: if they run credit they know your score, if they know your score they have a sense of whether or not they want to lend to you, even if it’s a conditional decision, such as asking for documentation of some kind. Not PSCCU. They will gladly ding your credit and give you nothing in return, leaving you blind to what’s going on until they have everything they want. That of course means the rep might very well have already denied you and is just following due diligence — they need to STATE that after running credit. If there’s no point in giving docs because it’d be denied anyway, tell the customer that.
Contrast that with my current credit union, also manual review, but who provides you conditional decision after the application is run through the bureau. They’ve also never denied me for loans, two different car loans and a credit card. The only reason I didn’t use them this time is that they’re in a different state.
In any event I suggest staying far away from PSCCU.
