Mike refinished the hardwood floors in two areas in our house. His bid was competitive and he was very professional. Very competitive. He was very reasonable about my concerns about sanding and refinishing a small room that we just tore a pet stained carpet out of. I wanted to keep the cost down, since we knew there wouldn’t be a perfect outcome. I was also concerned about oil based sealers and high VOC products. We compromised on one oil base and two water based coats. He was right about using the oil base for the sealer; it matches the refinished hallway in tone and color.
The result was much better than we expected. I will finish off the quarter round myself. I’ll post a before and after picture, of the 1926 floor refinished.
I’m so glad that I didn’t use a cheap vinyl overlay to cover up this beautiful floor hidden beneath ¹⁄₁₆ inch of wood.

My floor is perfect now. A master piece. Thanks to Mike that is a very perfectionist artist. He is also fast, organized and clean. Everyday in the end of day everything was organized and clean and even cleaner in the end. I do recommend him.

Mike completely redid the floors in our 1920s fixer. I thought that they were impossibly damaged from all the years of being painted over, carpeted over, even tiled over in some places. My partner gave him a call over MLK Jr. weekend and Mike responded right away and got started immediately on Monday. Such a nice dude. It’s Saturday and we have beautiful floors!!! Amazing. Gold Star was recommended to me by a friend of mine. I was in the middle of a refinance on my home and the VA said that the carpet had to be replaced upstairs first because everything had to be in servicable condition. It was true, the carpet was bad, I was just waiting to finish it myself in the winter with hardwood but now I had to get it done quickly and didn’t have the free time to do it myself.
I called Alex and he came out to give me a bid right away. He worked with my schedule to come out since I’m on call 24 hours a day with my job and making appointments is difficult at best. All I had to do was pick out which type of Acacia hardwood flooring I wanted to match the downstairs and they’d start on the date they gave me.
It turned out that their supplier couldn’t get the type of Acacia I needed in time to complete the project before the final VA inspection. I found another supplier that I had used in the past to purchase my hardwood through. It wasn’t the exact color I had
downstairs but that was okay with me. I have two large dogs and eventually I’m going to have the downstairs hardwood refinished.
They picked up the hardwood I picked out from my supplier without a problem and got everything completed in a few days. Mike was the one installing my floors and he lost a day because of all the power outages we were experiencing with the weather. Everything was completed before schedule and my VA refi passed with no problems.
I’m kind of a do it yourself type of person but these guys really outdid themselves. I did the hardwood downstairs myself and it turned out good but watching somebody that really knows what they’re doing is amazing. Everything turned out perfect and my floors look awesome. I’m going to have them refinish my downstairs when the time comes. I really feel like I got a great value for the cost and would highly recommend them to anyone. You won’t be disappointed.

We hired Mike to put replace our carpeted stairs and landing with wood that matched our original 1920s hardwoods downstairs. He was very responsive and turned around an estimate just as fast. He got started the day he said he would and finished in two days. He did such a great job — the floors look amazing, nicely done and the house was clean. He very neatly put up dust barriers around the project. Very reasonable labor prices and wood prices from Seaport. I’d recommend him highly to anyone with a hardwoods project. I’ve worked with many different vendors and big boxes like Lowes, and in comparison, this was painless!

Mike is great… I wouldn’t hesitate to hire him. Our kitchen floor (1924 original wood) had been painted over at least a couple of times, and now it looks amazing. He responded promptly to my calls and emails. What I’m most impressed with is his work ethic… he worked very hard for the money he earned and his price was very reasonable/​competitive. He also did a great job with keeping things neat and clean.

My wife and I hired Mike to help update the hardwood flooring in our newly purchased home. The old Oak floors were damaged so we decided to have them removed and replaced with Maple. We further planned to expand the rest of the first floor with hardwood bringing the installation area to 1500 sqft. Mike gave us a more than competitive estimate for the work and a reasonable timeline for the job at hand. Mike was very prompt and not only did he do the job quickly but the quality of the work was exceptional.
Mike was very prompt on the schedule and the floors look amazing. I have read other reviews from flooring stores where the house was covered in saw dust after having finishing done. That was not even the case with Mike, besides having floors perfectly level you would never tell there was sanding being done as the house was perfectly clean.
I highly reccomend Mike to anyone considering have work done on their floors.

Mike did an amazing job with the floor. I was really impressed with his professionalism and his speed. He was punctual, courteous and extremely neat. What could have been a very disruptive job (had hardwood floors installed over the entire downstairs living space) was amazingly painless, mostly because he worked hard over 2 long full days and he cleaned up after himself as he went along and after each day. I have paid many contractors and these qualities are rare unfortunately. I will recommend him to anyone who is getting flooring installed.

First, I would like to thank Mike, the owner, for the admirable work he has done with our floors. We just bought a fixer and the oak floors where in bad shape. We also turned the mudroom into a kitchen and opened the space so we needed to add flooring that would match the wood of the main room. Our friends gave us the name of a contractor in Portland. I called and he sent someone to do the estimate and they suggested to get rid off all the old floors and install new or to keep the old floor and install «vintage» oak to match it. They were very expensive and not all that nice nor helpful. The second number I got from another friend, well the guy never even returned my calls. So I decided to look for someone else and maybe not in Portland. I found Mike by luck on Craiglist where he had an ad. I called, he came a few days later, and after inspecting the floors in the house said he could match it to some new floors that he would install. He was very much in favor of keeping the existing floors, and said he just had to work on matching the color. Mike came and was extremely thorough and clean. Today he finished our floors and I cannot express how surprised we were by the result. It surpassed what we thought it would look like. He has transformed an old, ran down floor into a beautiful and clean one. He is very professional and I would recommend him to anyone who needs his services. He even gave us a goody bag and a thank you card for using him! Perfect, very pleased and he was way cheaper than the Portland contractor.

I had Mike replace my carpet with hardwood 10 years ago in my current home. He did a wonderful job at that time, and later for some good friends that replaced carpet with hardwood as well.
Now that I bought a new home, I had again the call him, hoping he is still in business — of course he is — when you do a good job as he does, word goes out.
I was not let down, and again he did it right, on time and clean.
It is unfortunate he was not the one to install the hardwood throughout the entire house — we bought the home with hardwood downstairs and had to replace the carpet on the stairs and all throughout upstairs — we can definitely tell the difference in the way he matched the wood, in the way he closed the quarter rounds on the corners, in the way you feel the wood when you step on it.
Fantastic job and it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg.
