Painless Piano Lessons

I’ve been taking from Jackie for about six months, now. I had taken piano as a child, and was always regretful that I had not applied myself more. Deciding to take up piano again in my mid-​fifties in lieu of doing Sudoku, I searched the Internet for someone in my neighborhood and found Jackie of It’s Not Too Late… and boy, am I glad I did. She promptly responded to my e-​mail inquiry, and followed up with a phone call. I set an appointment to have her assess my skill set. I immediately felt comfortable with her. She had a very nice way making me feel comfortable as I began my first lessons, and we set a weekly schedule for me to come and learn piano. The nice thing was we talked about what kind of music I like and Jackie was extremely helpful in helping me find the right music to learn with, so that I actually enjoyed practicing piano. I was very relieved, because I was afraid of being stuck with first grade music primary books, or something, but Jackie helped me pick music I loved from my youth, and I soon found myself playing and singing along! I never imagined I could do such a thing, but it was a secret wish I had all these years, and part of my regret, that I could not accompany myself singing. I can now do so. I’m kind of bad at it, as I don’t practice enough, but I can definitely play and sing along. I’m nervous about playing left hand to support the right, and Jackie has given me lots of tips and tricks to take the nervousness out of my playing and singing. Furthermore, Jackie is a really nice and interesting person with a kind heart, and I have really grown to admire her as we progress in our friendship as (returning) student and teacher.

Jackie is a wonderful teacher. Patient, talented and able to determine my level of playing and immediately provide a course of help from there.
I had been reticent about going back and learning and practicing piano after not playing for decades. Jackie has helped me take the big step and I look forward to coming back for many more lessons.
