Kinnara is a gem off the beaten path in the San Fernando Valley. It a must stop for Thai on the corner of Sherman Way and Sepulveda Blvd.

Been going here since they opened. Love it every time. Tasty food with some unique dishes by chef Kevin. We usually stick with our faves though– chicken larb, pad see you, panang beef. Hits the spot every time. Slightly pricey but overall a good value– fresh, spicy when it should be, quality ingredients, and plenty of menu items to choose from. Give it a shot, you’ll be glad you did!

This place is great! I work about 5 minutes away so from time to time, my co workers and I crave Thai food and we always order from here. Each time that I’ve ordered, the food was awesome.

This review is long overdue. I eat at Kinnara 2 – 4 times a week, most of the time I order delivery or pickup but I’ve dined in a few times and every experience has been wonderful. Friendly staff and delicious food. Parking– the restaurant is in a shopping center. Finding parking inside can be challenging at peak times. If you don’t find parking in the shopping center you can park on the street. The food is delicious and prices are good. Some of my favorite dishes: –Perfect Garlic Shrimp –Spicy Beef Salad –Papaya Salad –Tom yum Kah, it’s perfectly balanced. Some coconut soups have too much coconut milk, the consistency is too dense but Kinnara’s is well balanced.

Met up for a friend’s birthday and I loved the vibe in there Food was completely fanstastic. Really good place to go and eat. I’ve been for lunch, dinner, and now a celebration with each time being better than the last. Also, the customer service is A+. Shout out to the young guy server. He was sooooo nice and very hospitable. He was also very attentive and you could just tell he’s a nice person even out the restaurant. DEFINITELY coming back.

I like the concept of this restaurant. The food was really good and the service was good as well. In my opinion the food was too spicy but other than that I enjoyed the food very much. I am highly recommend it to you guys to be careful from spicy food in this restaurant since my food was extremely spicy.

I am not sure how this place got such rave reviews. My family and I came here for dinner, based on Unilocal reviews. The décor is nice, but that is about it. My family and I each ordered a separate dish, so we could share. The food was plain. We got three of our dishes, but not the wonton soup the we ordered. We had to leave to get to a show, so we asked for the soup to go. The soup was never brought out to the table but we saw the large serving dish that it was in. We opened the bag, the next day, and found a very small container, compared to the large serving dish the soup was originally in. This place is a rip off and when we called about the small portion we were told that it was a normal and had no interesting in settling our complaint. I have no desire to go to this restaurant again.

Who would have figured that this place just can’t pick itself up from when it first opened! It started as a whore house with the servers wearing the skimpiest outfits, and the food being dried out and uneventful. And now that the servers look respectable not much has changed for the food. We placed an order for delivery asking for the samari rice, and after 4 repeats ended up with salmon rice! The egg rolls tasted like chemicals, the dumplings that were supposed to be chicken and shrimp were unrecognizable, and at the end of this second try of this restaurant shame on me! I’m not one to write reviews, but if anyone gets anything from this place don’t waste your time or money. Places like Siam house(smaller but with fresher ingredients) deserve your business. Not this place that now has people answering the phone who don’t speak good English and don’t know the items on the menu well enough to fake it. Also, it is not hard to not dry out chicken, but they manage to do it every time! SERIOUSLYAVOID!

I usually come here for Happy Hour with my friends and basically only go to get drunk lol. The past few times I’ve been to Kinnara’s we ended up ordering food. My favorite thing to order from the happy hour menu is the chicken satay. Chicken with peanut sauce and a side of cucumber salad, its very tasty. Recently my friend and I ordered the filet mignon with curry(cute presentation), and the pineapple fried rice… ITWASDELISH! I do feel the pricesu are a bit high.

A sexy ambiance with great food to boot. Fellas, this is definitely a date pleaser! Our group ordered: Kinnara Sampler($ 14.95): 4 chicken satays, 4 dumplings, 2 spring rolls, 2 crispy shrimps. Each item was enjoyable, but for the price there should have been more food. This was more expensive than any of the entrees we ordered! Panang Curry with Chicken($ 9.50): A real crowd pleaser. The curry is great over rice! Cashew Chicken($ 9.25): Can’t go wrong here. A reasonable amount of chicken and cashews. Ginger and Onion Beef($ 9.25): A good amount of sauteed beef and vegetables. The beef was just a little tough. Pineapple Fried Rice($ 12.50): A pretty decent fried rice, especially with the pineapple that gave it a juicy flavor! Pad See You with Chicken($ 9.50): A good ratio of noodles to chicken to broccoli. There are a lot of Thai places in the San Fernando Valley. Fortunately this place can hold its own!

I have to say I’ve been coming here for many years. I order pretty much the same thing which is the barbecue sidewalk chicken. Because it’s the best around. Everything on their menu is great. But I’m just a chicken guy. They have pumpkin shrimp curry soup. I got to say. I lick the bowl everytime… The head chef is so creative. They have a section on their menu call the Chefs Creations. Those are worth every penny. Where else can you get roasted duck in the valley. The Ahi tuna salad… I can go on and on. This place is worth the drive wherever you live. 6 stars

I just moved to the neighborhood and was super excited to visit Kinnara Thai. From the exterior I thought this would be my type of restaurant to frequent. After I finished moving, I decided to walk up the street and enjoy a nice meal. Yes I had on a black sweatsuit. This hoodie was designer with crystals and satin trim. My natural Afro showed in all of its beautiful glory as I removed my cap during my walk. I entered Kinnara which only had about 12 customers at the time. Half were at the same table. Neither female staff member greeted me. But yes they looked as this Nubian Princess flowed through the doorway. Since no one acknowledged my glorious presence I sat at the bar. The same two females proceeded to talk to each other and fix drinks. The old woman with the black Bob haircut stood in front of me and sipped on a drink. Yes she thought she was too cute to speak to me. I started opening up the Unilocal app as I had plenty of time: no menu nor service. Finally I asked one of the two men who appeared to be in charge«Are you the owner?» He said yes. As I asked him what it was about me that didn’t warrant a «hello, may I get you a drink or something to eat» an interesting thing happened: both females raced from the kitchen to stand at the bar and watch our discourse. They had no interest in me before, and in fact couldn’t even make eye contact with me. I can’t give the owner a pass either because he came in late and saw me sitting there as well. He shouldn’t have assumed I was taken care of since I had no drink or menu. I am clear… My coffee toned hue is not welcome. No worries, my green paper can go back to Ventura Blvd. Suggestion: Don’t open in a diverse neighborhood if the neighbors aren’t welcome.

My boyfriend took me out for the PERFECT date night and this place became our new favorite Thai joint! This is an awesome place for a romantic date with your sweethearts! We came in on a Saturday night around 8:30 and it was not crowded at all; we ordered Pad See Ew with Beef, Shrimp Fried Rice and had Chicken Satay as an appetizer. He also ordered a large sake for me and it was delish, best sake I’ve had in awhile! Everyone was so nice and attentive and we can’t wait to come back here soon! Thank you so much, Kinnara Thai! :)

Everything on the menu sounded delicious. My boyfriend and I got two different plates and they were great! We went on a weekday for lunch and we immediately got seated and service was great. I will admit, the parking lot was a full so I had to go around a couple of times to find parking. But other than that, this place is elegant and yummy! I can’t wait to go back!

I’m not sure in what world«diced» beef is as big as a persons palm. But that was definitely the case with my «diced» beef curry lunch special. It was also a bit dry. The prices on the take-out menu were incorrect and much higher than listed. When the guy rung up my order I commented that the price was higher than expected and he just said something like«The menu is wrong». Just like that. No apologies. I recommended they put out new menus or indicate on the old menus where there are price differences. The sauce was OK so I’ll probably go back to try something different. But at those prices they can’t afford to make such mistakes because they won’t get a third chance. The Thai tea was good though… After reading some of the other reviews it appears they’re not very consistent with their service or the quality of their food. It almost make me have second thoughts about that second chance…

I used to order delivery from this restaurant, until one of their drivers was rude to me on a number of times. I would order through Eat 24 most of the times, each time I started signing the bill, this driver would more like demand a tip. Because of this annoying behavior I would only tip him $ 2, and he would get upset! One time I felt like he did not deserve a tip at all! $ 2 is my base tip even if service sucks. He got so annoyed that he told me not to order delivery anymore. Of course I stopped ordering delivery from Kinnara because after I reported him to the manager, It sounded like they do encourage their employees to Demand Tips. Maybe they under pay their employees. Employee’s behavior Reflects the Owner. Employees are an extension of the business. Attitude matters. To be honest, I really don’t miss their food as I found a better Thai restaurant that I prefer. The staff over there is courteous than Kinnara staff. I tip them more because they do not demand a Tip. Yap!

What happened? This used to be my go-to for Thai food in the valley. Moved to the bay area a couple years ago, and am back on vacation. New management, new staff, new menu… My boyfriend ordered a pad Thai and emphasized that he couldn’t have anything spicy as he has acid reflux. Both of our dishes arrived late. The dish came out spicy. Our waitress said that it’s just the base sauce. In the end, he simply couldn’t eat it. Professionalism is gone… One of the waiters is wearing a gray«GAP» hoodie… One of our menus was in shreds and missing pages, the table was not clean when we sat down. The décor, it seems, is the only thing that hasn’t changed. I should mention, our waitress was awesome and repeatedly tried to make things better. She offered us another meal or dessert. My boyfriend choose the pineapple fried rice. However, when she brought us the ticket, they had charged us extra for the rice, as it was couple dollars more expensive than his original dish. This was completely outrageous, and we said, we’d rather keep the original price and just not take the dish that was supposed to be «comped.» She went back to the manager and got the price changed. What was really unfortunate is our poor waitress had to keep awkwardly running back and forth, and the manager never came out from the back. This was a major bummer. I’ve been here innumerable times, but sadly, I doubt I’ll be returning :(

I was visiting my friend George for lunch who works across the street and asked him, what’s good nearby? Both of us love Mexican food and there was a place in the same strip mall, but he said it was salty and overpriced. So taking his suggestion we went to Kinnara. A bit fancier looking than the other restaurants in this area, I was hoping the decorations weren’t a cover up for the food. Boy, was my skepticism wrong! There are some fusion items on the menu, which can potentially be a turn off(stay in your own lane), but I pretty much know what Thai dishes are so I went there. I loved that they had lunch specials that come with a side salad and decided to go with the red curry. Although our waitress said red was the hottest one, it wasn’t. No worries, I put a ton of hot sauce and peppers on my dish(refills on the sauces please). The coconut milk was apparent and the chicken and veggies were tasty. What impressed me the most was how generous the portions were. Usually when you get a lunch special, it’s much smaller than the regular dish, but not here. For me quantity matters. Quality of course does too, but when generous it can cover the sins of excellent taste. I’m looking forward to going back. It’s not a place I would normally choose or go to, but thanks to George I won’t be asking where to meet him for lunch.

Was in the area for work and was craving Thai so stopped by here. My go to dish at a Thai restaurant is always Pad Kee Mao. I got it here and it was okay. Not the best I’ve had, certainly not the worst. Service was okay, not overly friendly. Don’t really see what the hype is about here.

Never in my life ordering from this establishment!!! I ordered through and had food delivered for dinner. My husband barely half way done eating choked on a piece of broccoli and realized there was a metal wire in it! Immediately we called the restaurant and not a single person spoke normal English and did not understand a single thing we said over the phone. All they said was«sorry next time it won’t happen» and«these things happen» Metal wires showing up in your food??? These things happen? No, e coli bacteria happens. Metal wires ending up in your food doesn’t happen. They didn’t offer a refund and had no common sense to understand what happened so we packaged up the food and took it back to their rat hole of a restaurant. Don’t eat here!!!

I think the quality of this place is going downhill. The portions are getting smaller and the cleanliness is declining while the prices are increasing. At least the plates are still big enough to share. The first time I ate here I got the chicken yellow curry and they forgot the chicken. Ok fine. I still gave them another try, and it was fine so I’ve frequented this establishment since then. The wonton soup is fine. Not too heavy, so you don’t feel sluggish after. The yellow curry with egg noodles is ok too. I usually eat it with a side of white rice. The crab fried rice was not kind to my stomach, but the xo fried rice, pineapple fried rice, and reunion fried rice are ok. But, the best dish there is the angry flying duck. The duck isn’t fried, which I’m pleased about, and the meal comes with a colorful, beautiful array of fresh veggies.(The mandarin fried duck doesn’t have any veggies. Shame.) Just order a side of white rice and you’re set with a meal for two. Unfortunately for me, a fan of pick-up meals, this dish is best eaten at its peak freshness, which is in the restaurant. As for the drinks, I’ve tried both the rose Mai tai and he lychee mojito. Both were worth it. The only issue with the roses is that it’s pretty presentation, but I hate picking rose petals off my tongue when I get to the end of my drink. One other thing that’s a shame is that they have a separate menu for weekday lunch hours. I can never get the items off that menu that piqué my interest because I work a regular 9 to 5 and they have a strict policy preventing ordering those items outside the listed hours. I understand policies are in place for reasons, but it would be nice if we could be privy to the reason they don’t offer these items during all business hours. Also, parking at this strip mall is less than ideal. The spaces are compact and people don’t bother being considerate and fitting in the lines.

Rating stands. Excellent quality Thai food in Van Nuys. My colleague ordered CHICKENCASHEWSWITHCARAMELIZEDONIONS, WHITERICE, SALAD. Excellent just excellent! That chicken is marinated just right, & the onions OMG so tasty! I ordered HONGKONGSTYLENOODLES, CRABCHICKEN, BBQCHICKEN, &FLATEGGNOODLES, &VEGGIES… you can either eat it dry & sip on the broth, or go ahead & dump the broth in the bowl. Either way you can’t go wrong. Second time here, & my impression if the place stands. Impressive dishes, impressive service, at reasonable prices.

First time here . Late dinner so only ordered one soup and one noodle . I never had the tom yum soup with chicken before but I had Tom yum soup hundreds of times including in Thailand either with shrimp or tofu . In any case Tom yum is usually a sour, lemon grassy type of soup. This one was unbearably sweet. I couldn’t even eat it my friend finished it off. Zero stars . Drunken noodle was good. Not the best I ever had but it was good, again on the sweeter side . 4 stars . Perhaps the chef should taste the soup before letting it leave the kitchen? It was a to go order so there is no way to complain except to go somewhere else next time. 25+ dollars later I had a mediocre at best meal. Ugh.

I would stick to the pumpkin shrimp curry or the pumpkin soup to be safe. The other items I’ve tried are not so good such as the pad thai and mango chicken. The fried rice is a bit oily. The pad thai was strangly spicy as if they put sriacha in it. This was probably the worst pad thai I’ve ever tasted. I could barely eat it. There are Chinese food on the menu, there’s Thai, Thai fusion that this menu gets confusing. There are also chef creations unique to this restaurant. Prices are really high for this area that I can’t see myself eating here on a regular basis. The Thai iced tea was watery and not as good as Sapp Coffee Shop which offers unlimited refills. Kinnara has a fine dining concept for Thai, but sorry, the food is not as good or impressive and refined as Chada Thai in Las Vegas where I’d glady pay $$$$ for their overall delicious food from their menu. I prefer In-Chan in the next shopping center over which is more authentic and less fancy, but I didn’t go this evening because that place might still be cash only. They even have a secret menu of regional Thai specialties. Ask for it.

I just ordered two chicken satays, two orders of rice and three sodas from Kinnara Thai via Labites. I have no restaurant dining experience with this restaurant so I am leaving this review based entirely upon the food that was delivered to me tonight. The chicken satay was barely edible. I had just spent all day playing in a sports tournament so I was very hungry, but I only managed to eat part of one and a little of another before I had to stop. Most of the four pieces of satay were not just dry or overcooked, but charred. I have no idea why any restaurant would think that it would be acceptable to charge $ 25(not including the extra $ 13 that LAbite charges in fees) for food like that. Frankly, I feel ripped off and I want my money back. I will not be ordering any food from this restaurant again.
