The food is pretty good with great portion sizes and at great prices. The problem is the seating. It’s a big place that’s too packed for it’s own good. I don’t like sitting at a table that is too small for four plates + 2 drinks — we had to put the menus on the floor and ask to box our appetizer because there was no room. The staff is alright. We had a waiter who was AWESOME but our waitress wasn’t too friendly. I would recommend it but make sure you have reservations.

Been here dozens of times and never reviewed it. This is probably one of my favorite restaurants in the area. The place does fill up fast so it is a good idea to make a reservation. They always have specials of the week which is normally what I order from but I have ordered off there regular menu a few times and never been disappointed. They have great drink specials normally during the week and if your a beer geek like I am they have a great craft beer selection and are always adding new stuff. The atmosphere is nice here and the staff is friendly and normally pretty face with everything. Overall like I said before this is one of my favorite restaurants in the area your not going to be disappointed and everything you order is going to be fantastic. I would just recommend the specials because the are normally awesome!

I’m from out of town and was looking for a good dinner. EXCELLENT filet mignon, great service. Ambiance is adorable especially outside.

Very good, nice atmosphere, good drinks, our meals were above average for Northwest Indiana. The chef was a little heavy handed on salt but I would definitely go back

By far the BEST restaurant in Valparaiso, Indiana. The only drawback is that it doesn’t open sooner, but I can understand that because if you want to serve GREAT food preparation would have to start early in the day! So Stacks, you are forgiven!

I absolutely loved this place! To begin with, it is one of tricky to find it. My GPS took me way down the road and had to circle back, it’s right off the square… but you walk into what appears to be an office building all the way down the halls and enter into what you think is an office and low and behold you have stacks! I plopped down at the bar since I was in town solo and was pleasantly surprised to hear it was half off draft beer on Wednesdays, lucky for me one of those beers was a pear cider, sweet! Kudos to the bartender working solo and busting her ass, she was amazing! I ordered the salmon dinner that same with the most amazing risotto I’ve ever had. It was mouth watering delicious. I also appreciate that they label their menu with which items are gluten free, helps me to not have to be the annoying girl who asks. Everything about the experience was top notch! If I’m ever back in Valpo I will definitely be back!

I literally cannot say enough good things about Stacks. Not too cheap, not too expensive. The drink list will make your head spin(in a good way). If you are a beer snob you’ll be in heaven. The food is unreal. I have never had a bad meal here. It’s always busy so be ready to wait just a little bit. But the servers are friendly, and the food always come out right, and quickly. When friends and family come to visit my while out here for school, this is the first place I take them. Cheers!

It’s good food. Be sure to make a reservation, though. My wife and I have gone a few times but weren’t able to get in — once at 7:30 on a Friday, and once at 5 on a Saturday, and we were told there was about a 90 min wait. They have good food — but not THAT good. My go-to dish is the stuffed chicken breast — garlicky and delicious. I’ve had a steak before — it was very good as well. I’ve also tried the osso buco — very tender an delicious. Great service, great beer selection. Just think ahead and make a reservation.

I have heard a lot of hype about Stacks and let me tell you it is amazing! The food is great and the customer service is great as well. My girlfriend and I went there for the first time not knowing what to expect. Luckily we had a fantastic server named Dani! She helped us out with or selection and and made us feel at home there. Without us even asking she told us promotions going on that we wouldn’t know about otherwise! Dani has excellent customer service and I would highly recommend asking for Dani when you arrive at Stacks! You will not be disappointed!

By far… The BEST food in Valpo! You need a reservation for this place. A two person couple could walk in without a reservation but expect to wait 30 minutes Monday– Thursday and well over an hour Friday and Saturday. Top tip: get the Bruschetta appetizer. My wife and I have this thing where we try everyone’s bruschetta and Stacks beats everyone’s in a 50 mile radius including Italian restaurants. We have tried almost everything on the menu but our favorite besides the bruschetta is trying the daily specials. Lots of unique dishes to an otherwise upscale bar food menu. Their specials are posted on their Facebook page. Beer selection is a large size. Cocktails are done right. Service is great. We like the look of the restaurant. Honestly… I can’t think of a complaint or anything to suggest changing. The only thing might be that the customer has to plan ahead to go.

Literally my favorite restaurant in NWI. If you live in NWI and haven’t been here you’re missing out. If you’re visiting the area, eat here and you’ll thank me later. You can close your eyes and randomly pick from the menu and be very satisfied. Food is amazing and they have a great beer selection.

I didn’t expect much in downtown Valpo, but this place exceeded my expectations on all fronts. The space is weird, basically an office building. But they way its laid out and design make it really unique. Interesting food choices, and they are all great. Tuna and calamari in Indiana, and they rocked it. A chicken and waffle sandwich with the waffles as bread, was knock out. Local and rare beer list add to the allure. I’ll be back.

My husband, some friends, and I went to this place several times while staying in Indiana. I loved this place. The atmosphere was awesome. I dug the whole vibe. It’s a bit hidden, reminds me of a speakeasy. They have a good thing going there. The cocktails were very good and the homemade pretzel balls were amaze!

Stacks is absolutely the best restaurant in town and if you haven’t been there yet your really missing out. My last visit was with my wife and 2 boys. Had 4 meals, 1 beer, 2 glasses of wine all for about $ 60 + tip. Crazy reasonable. If you want to dine between 5 – 7(on the weekend) however get a reservation ahead. you’ll likely wait longer than one hour. We waited 90 minutes. But for the best place in town it’s worth it!

A little tricky to find, but worth the effort. Stacks is a cozy bar and grill tucked away near downtown Valpo, with a comfortable vibe, great food, and an impressive beer selection. The mock library décor is really charming, not kitschy, and there are lots of small areas tables for an intimate evening or larger tables if you’re with a group. The service is friendly and knowledgeable. The hubs and I enjoyed a few drinks and dinner at the bar. He had the seasonal 3Floyds and I had a chenin blanc blend. Very nice. We started with the appetizer special, the spicy calamari. Wow, so delicious. Some of the most tender calamari I’ve had in a while. And yes, spicy for sure. Then we split the spinach pizza, another excellent choice. Thin crispy crust, fresh toppings, a hint of garlic. A perfect size for splitting if you’re not starving, but I could see how someone would order their own and take a few slices home for leftovers. There are a lot of options in Valpo, but Stacks is definitely at the top of my list.

My no.1(B) place in Valpo. They were once dubbed the little sister to Pesto’s, but they’ve eclipsed their big sister in almost every way. Beer menu is phenomenal. They always have something new, and go out of their way to let you sample. I appreciate that. Staff is always super, even when they’re slammed. The pork shank«wings» are simply to die for. I’ve heard stories where they came out too done, but i’ve eaten there on multiple occasions and always order them without ever being let down. Toasted rav is the same as Pesto’s, which is a good thing. Stack’s filet is my fave. Always perfectly cooked, and the distinction from the offering at Pesto’s is a plus(i think they just cook better filet here). Osso bucco is pretty much flawless. As one of my favorite dishes, i’ve experienced my share of shank failures, but not here. Love it! Stack’s burger was good. The library/office atmosphere is a great change of pace. Only complaint i have is the hours. They don’t open until 4:00PM, and are closed on Sunday/Monday. WTF?

Beautiful interior, great customer service, and tasty drinks. The interior is all polished oak and painted brick and piles and piles of books, like a singles bar for librarians. The menu covers are book covers. The woodwork has a nicely carved meander(no doubt a tribute to the local Greco-American population), stained glass and bas-relief of sunbursts and peacocks. The door handles are highly polished brass, and so are the railings. Images of Valparaiso’s past add to the classy-yet local vibe of the place.

Ambience represents«stacks» in a library. Three room restaurant is part of an office suite building. The bar and main dining room have book stacks and wood trim. We ordered off the dinner menu — stuffed chicken, pulled pork, stacks burger and stacks filet. The service was attentive, the food hot, good presentation, and great flavor. We had the cookie skillet for dessert which really serves about 4 people and was quite excellent.
