This place is cool and old school. the owner is really friendly and nice. I did enjoy my gyro, but I do feel that it took a little too long of a wait. I understand that it was just him there and making it with care and professionalism but when you are hungry the last thing you want to do is wait. But I can’t say that I did not see the sign that said that«this wasn’t a fast food». I would eat here again, but it would have to be on a day that I’m prepared to wait.

The food is ALWAYS fresh and made to order. Jus make sure to put time aside because it does take a little while BUT it’s worth the wait!

You won’t get a gyro this good anywhere else nearby. It might take a while after you order it but it is definitely worth the wait. Johnny is a great guy and is always friendly.

Great service and good food made to order. My friend and I got a cheeseburger and a gyro which was well prepared. Owner was really friendly, learned our names and joked which made it a great environment. Definitely recommend checking it out. I know we will be back!

My bf had issues with this place because we weren’t told how long we would have to wait and we ended up waiting close to an hour for our food. This is the kinda place you call ahead and order food for pickup. Overall the food was good! We ordered gyros and a cheeseburger and the bread he uses isn’t your typical gyro bread but the pita bread you find in pathmark for 89 cent(which is also used instead of your typical burger bun). The chief was a really nice guy. I’d go back if I was in the area again.

It’s definitely not fast food, but it’s 110% worth the wait. Johnny, the owner, makes your food to order, and it may have been the best gyro I’ve had.

Ali Baba’s is a small, divey place that one should not overlook because of the look. The food is fab and the service is personal and friendly. If I want a falafel or gyro, this is my go to place.

This is a Valley Stream landmark which I had always been a little hesitant to try. It’s not much to look at from the outside, but it’s been there as long as I can remember. I finally tried it for the first time a few years ago, and have been back a few times since. What makes this place stand out from other gyro places in the area is the customer service you get from Johnny, the owner. I called last night to place an order and Johnny was so polite and not short with me on the phone as busy take out places can be. When I arrived. Johnny smiled and informed me that my order would be ready in a few minutes(definitely prepare to wait as everything is made to order). When my food was ready, Johnny took great care in carefully packing everything up to prevent spilling, labeling everything, and making sure I carried the bag out flat so nothing spilled. He is a genuinely nice guy.

I don’t understand how I could have been bamboozled here by the Unilocal community. Hungry with a fancy palette for Middle Eastern dishes I headed to Alibaba’s. I ordered the Falafel and Johnny raved about how much I would love the freshness and have a craving to keep coming back. There was nothing memorable about the Falaffel. I could have ordered it from a street cart on Hillside Avenue. I was greatly disappointed. I looked around the shop at all the famous artists who had stopped in for a bite and was baffled ! Did they receive commission for those photos? The sandwich I had was mediocre… Chick peas, sauce and Pita. Nothing to write home about. Save your money.

Ali babas are the greatest. The owner Johnny is really a great cook and really nice. If you go there often and he remembers you you can get a free drink from him. His food are delicious especially his gyros!

This place has some of the tastiest gyros around. Johnny, the owner is also one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet. He greets everyone warmly and remembers everyone who has been there more than once. The place itself is just a tiny shack with two tables, so it’s best to get take out. The delicious gyros are served in the pocket of the pita, rather than the pita wrapped around the meat and salad. The only drawback is the wait. Johnny always takes a long time in making your food to order. But honestly, the wait is worth it!

Crappy places like Chicken Delicious and that place in Franklin Square have turned me off to trying new Gyro places. I’ve been living/working in Valley Stream for over 5 years and was always too scared to try this place. Yesterday, I said F it, I’m going to try it. My wife and I ordered a special for each of us(gyro, fries, and a drink). Best place on the island, hands down. Don’t go anywhere else. The food is so fresh, the fries are amazing, the meat isn’t frozen crap. The portion of fries are small, so we ordered another one each. They’re fries in the shape of a potato chip. So awesome. I would recommend always calling in because it does take time to prepare. However, I’d rather wait the time it takes to make this stuff fresh because it makes it 100 times better. Prices are extremely fair. $ 9 bucks for a gyro fries and soda are definitely worth it. The owner Johnny is the man. Very caring guy to two strangers he just met. I am now an Ali Baba’s lifer

I got the combo gyro and my husband got the falafel. I must say the food is great and very filling. The price is reasonable but the wait is quite long cause everything is very fresh, nothing frozen and done right in front of you.

The food at Ali Baba’s is good, don’t get me wrong. The gyro is tasty, the homemade fries are great! But they’re a little stingy. They barely put any tzatziki on my gyro, and the fries were small. And you know, maybe it is a good thing to not have a huge plate of fries, but if you’re going to wait 45 minutes for your gyro and fries, you want it to be worth it. As they advertise all over the store, they are«not fast food,» and boy, do they really mean that.

This place has been around for a long time. The owner is awesome and is always delighted to help you out. Good foods are messy foods, right? Precisely what you’ll have here. It’s a good bite if you have a minute to spare. You probably wouldn’t expect to go back for more, but for whatever reason you will. Embrace it.

First of all, I don’t EVER have a hankering for a gyro. My brother from another mother told me I had to try this Place out and that it was amaz-balls. Yes… those were the words used to describe the food. This place is a tiny place located next to a very good chinese fruit stand /herbal market /health food store. Parking is awful but who cares. There are two tables with a few stolls to sit an eat and you might as well stay. This is a Local hot spot and the owner is the main reason to come back. Such a nice gentleman. The food was plentiful and cooked to order on the spot. The fries were fresh cut potato chips and the price was the usual affair for a gyro(about $ 6). I have introduced many people to this place(first time gyro eaters) and everyone has enjoyed it. I only come back every so often but each time, it is a treat. It is Amaz-balls…

I’ve been going to Ali Baba’s for over 15 years. This is the best gyro on the island hands down. The owner John is pretty much the nicest guy in Valley Stream. Definitely get the Gyro sandwich and fries.

I live 45+ minutes away from Ali Baba’s and I still make it a point to drive to Valley Stream a few times a year just to stop in for a gyro and some fries and then I smother everything in the best BBQ sauce I’ve ever had. Really great place that everyone should try at least once in their life. And don’t forget the owner, Johnny, who is one of the sweetest guys you’ll ever meet and a really old school business owner. He has a stack of voter registration forms on the counter for his young customers to take, cartoons and newspaper clippings all over the walls, the TV always tuned to CNN or MSNBC, and a smile and a warm greeting for everyone who enters.
