First time I ate here was about a week ago. My girlfriend and I went during lunch to try something new and we both though the place was amazing the chips and salsa are great we both had fajitas chicken and beef and I also had a chicken salad which is pretty big and it ended up filling me up a lot of chicken actually came in that salad it wasn’t only a few pieces so I ended up taking the fajita home and it was still delicious that night. The service was also very quick and we got the food to our table very fast, we actually ended up ordering there to go a 2nd time the same week because we craved it.

I thought the food was good. Me and my husband shared a Especial Fajitas. It was a double portion and was really big(we had leftovers). Flavors were good and my rice and beans were really good. I had a Jumbo Mango Margarita and it was GREAT!!! I felt the service was good also. We actually sat at the Bar so that is only way I can judge. I would definitely go back… even for just the Margarita ;-)

Great local place. Fresh made salsa daily. Fast service, good food, friendly people. Good deals on drinks too!
My boyfriend and I love Mexican food. Since we literally live next door we decided to try this place for the second time, as it’s been six months since the first time. Nothing changed. The food was still bland, completely inauthentic, and overpriced for what it was. Everything tasted the same, which was unfortunate because I’ve had tacos from a box with more flavor. The one star is for a friendly waiter and a nice restaurant. We will not be returning.

Server was very nice and helpful. Salsa and chips were also. Had lime margaritas which were good and they had a special on Saturday for a pitcher. Husband is vegetarian and really enjoyed the veg fajitas which included cauliflower, broccoli, carrots, mushrooms, onions and green peppers plus another plate with beans, rice sour cream, Pico de gallo and lettuce. I had burrito Mexicano. We will be back!

This place is located in Valley Park next to a Planned Parenthood… There were protestors when we got there for lunch so really that was the only real turn off. Food was good, drinks were alright(had a strawberry margarita) and our waiter was not very talkative or friendly… we might come back and ask for a different waiter.

3 stars is for the food 5 for the margaritas chips and salsa. Been going here for years, great margaritas, Chips and salsa. Food use to be really good but of late has gone way down hill. Fajitas have no flavor anymore, steak fajita burrito was a go to for me but steak taste like cut up round steak(tough no flavor). They do gave a great wait staff very friendly with one exception, the owners son(the one who works the register) really needs to learn how to greet customers and be more friendly. Will continue to go but if food does not improve it will be a margarita, chip and salsa visit only.

Had lunch today… the food was pretty good but the service was so bad. No refill on water, chips, salsa … could hardly get a spoon THEN nobody came to the register to take our $$. I wrote a note on the back of the ticket«Tired of waiting. Will call with CC #». The waitress ran out and got the cc @ the car and wanted to know why we were leaving without paying… DUH! So we paid, I called the mngr. who wouldn’t be in til after 530pm. Well I just called him, Ricardo, and he apologized… Cross El Nopal off the list!

Good little Mexican restaurant. Quality food at very reasonable prices. Had lunch here on 4÷17÷14, 2 entrees and 2 drinks cost less than $ 20. Very clean and the staff was very friendly.

We stopped in here today for a quick lunch while running errands. Since moving to the area, we’d been meaning to try it. I guess I was sort of expecting it to be a lot worse, but it was a perfectly pleasant experience. The décor is fine, it’s clean & the food was pretty good. I liked their chips, though the salsa was just ok. Their guac is weird — I think they mix sour cream in with it. However, it’s like $ 3 or something, so that’s the trade off. Mr. Beth had a steak burrito and although the steak was rather tough, it had a nice flavor. My chicken fajitas were very good. They also have kids menu with some $ 4.95 options in it. Overall the food was decent, the service was great. I’d probably have gone with a 3.5 if the option was there. Was it the best Mexican ever? No way. Was it good & worth a trip back? Sure. It’s better than El Maguey. And Hacienda, for that matter.

We went here for a valentine dinner. The manager was very polite when I called and asked how busy they were. He said 15 – 20 minute wait. When we got there turns out he was right on the button. Too many businesses give too short of wait time to keep customers waiting. Doesn’t seem to be the norm here. Once we were seated we were given chips, salsa, water, and menus. I got Huevos Rancheros while my daughter and wife split two smaller dishes. There was practically no wait from the ordering to our food getting in front of us. The Huevos Rancheros were good though the tortillas were a tad dry. My dinning companions enjoyed their dishes so much that the plates looked like they came out clean. The service was polite and attentive. Our drinks never went dry without being hounded for more all the time.

One check in. I have been here dozens of times but not since I started to Unilocal.El Nopal is the typical St. Louis Mexican. This is not to be confused with Milagro or any other upscale Mexican. This is copious amounts of food for a great price. I ordered the«Grande» Special. Two plates of taco, Chile relleno, tamale, burrito, refried beans and rice. The food is served fast, hot and good. I really enjoy the Mexican cheese which is their version of cheddar but much more tasty. The crowd when we arrived the crowd was very young and vibrant. A table of 16 something year old girls having a birthday party. They were just darling. Another table of young college students having a night out. Then there was me moving the average age too far north. Very nice time tonight I really enjoyed my meal and company.

Food: 4⁄5 Service: 4⁄5 El Nopal is a humble restaurant with good food and great prices. After seating, they start you off with a complimentary basket of house chips and salsa. Chips are crisp and not stale and the salsa is fresh. I felt it was a little bland, so I asked for a bottle of hot sauce and added a tablespoon of that into the mix. Hit the spot. ;] They have an extensive menu which is a little difficult to navigate around– too many choices and options. For a first-timer, it’s a bit overwhelming. While not truly authentic, if you don’t mind Westernized Mexican cuisine this is the place for you.

Our favorite«go-to», better than fast food restaurant. Not exactly gourmet mexican, but for the price, it’s alot better than a fast food chain. We usually get our orders to go, and have NEVER had a problem with the order when we get home. Plus, they always load us up with chips and salsa just like when you are dining in.

God Bless America!!! If you like your Mexican very Mid-Westernized, you might like it. If you like your Mexican food to have some kind of authentic flavor, you’re at the wrong place. We’ve been here 5 or 6 times and it used to be pretty good. For our last visit, though, we had the following: Chips and Salsa — decent but not special Guacamole — awful. Extremely bland — had to mix in hot sauce Cheese dip — okay Chicken Taco — pretty good flavor. Beef Tostaguac — awful — the meat was as bland as the guac Chicken Fajita nachos — Just okay. Green peppers were overcooked On top of this heap of mediocrity, they stopped having kids eat free on Sundays. Boo!

El Nopal is your average small family run Mexican restaurant. The margs are great and they have well priced ½ and full pitchers. Dangerously good! The food is average and averagely priced. I have always had good service and the place is clean. No negatives about El Nopal, but nothing makes it more than average. I consistently return to El Nopal when I crave Mexican food and am around my old stomping grounds. Keep it up El Nopal.

My favorite part of this experience was the Margarita special-$ 8 for a ½ pitcher. The ½ pitcher is just about the cutest thing I’ve ever seen and is truly the perfect size for one person; if you’re not driving, of course! Which I wasn’t, so I indulged and enjoyed every sip. I had the Quesadilla Deluxe and added chicken. It was a little spicy, but I can barely tolerate spicy, so spicy for me and spicy for the rest of the world are two different things. It was good and I would order it again. My guy had the Quesadilla Fajita and said it was good. The chips were fresh. The salsa was spicy(for me), but not too much and I would have it again. The service was friendly from the host to the bus boy to the server. We got our food quickly. I’ll go back for the ½ pitcher margarita :)
