Place is still okay. Pricey for what you get considering the great bakeries that are in nearby Napa are around the same price. For me the cupcakes are pretty dry. Almost bread-like. It’s not my preferred place to go, but if I am in a bind and can’t make cupcakes myself, make it to Safeway/Raleys or I want something a little more decorative then I’ll stop in. Otherwise I’ll make the drive to another bakery. Still nice to have something in town though. I just think they need some tweaks in their recipes because they are really seriously dry.

I just moved to Vallejo and even more exciting less than a mile from the hummingbird bakery. I was ultimately curious as far as the quality and service so I popped in for some ‘same trys’. I brought home eclairs, lemon bars, a chocolate cookies thing and a slice of bread pudding. As a purveyor of sweets I think you can judge a person on their eclairs and their bread pudding(the rest was for good measure). Everything was insanely delicious! My all time favorite would be the eclairs. They’ll cost you $ 3.25 but they will also change your life… And your pants won’t fit because you’ll be back! I’m a frequent shopper at this place; haven’t had a bad dessert yet!

As a baker who just moved out to Vallejo, I’m always looking for a bakery that creates the same types of desserts that I do, so when I don’t feel like baking for my household I can go to them; well I found this place through word-of-mouth and the person didn’t know the name of the bakery. they told me it was a Black owned bakery; I was so happy about it. I googled Black owned bakeries I googled keywords like black owned and soul food of neither which the title of the bakery never appeared so I looked for bakeries in Vallejo. I came across a few when I looked at the details of Hummingbird I noticed similarities to what I create. I made a call and the young lady told me that it was a Black-owned bakery, again I was excited and that they did make southern style type of desserts so when I found the place on Springs Road even though the area is not the best, the inside of the bakery is beautiful; very very warm, welcoming, and clean. The manager and the two employees whom I met were very hospitable. the display case was beautiful everything that was in it. And the Hummingbird was right on point with the tea cakes, peach cobbler in a coffee mug, bread pudding in a coffee mug. Beautiful looking cakes. My daughter said that the latte was wonderful but she drinks a lot of lattes. Everything about this place I give 10 stars. everything about it was good. I had the tea cakes and a portion of my daughters sweet potato pie it was on point. my husband has the banana pudding he loved it. I don’t make banana pudding so now he’s found a place where he can get his banana pudding. I love it and that it’s Black owned. The only suggestion I would give that I did give to the manager is when one is looking for Southern style Desserts and Black owned have key words«Black owned or soul food» for Unilocal and also on Google. otherwise I think everything about this place is good. Thanks again to the two sisters who own this bakery. I have a little competition but I love it!!!

My father had raved to me for months about what’s called the earthquake cake. I’m not in Vallejo often, but I was with my father on a Sunday in Vallejo and he took me. First impression is everything, and they left a great one on me. The décor is cute and clean and the desserts are front and center as they should be. We were greeted warmly, mainly because my dad goes in there often and knows the owners and some of the girls that bake there. I’m not sure about the prices, all I know is plenty caught my eye in the display case and I ended buying 4 different things. Sugar free lemon bar: I got this because my dad had told one of the owners that I loved lemons bars. She offered me her version, which happened to be sugar free, but after tasting it, you can’t even tell it’s sugar free! It tastes great! A wonderful lemon twang at the end of every bite is the best part of any lemon bar in my book. 3-citrus cupcake: Tasted citrus-y indeed! The cake itself had a few zests of citrus in it, but mostly the citrus flavor came from the icing, which was loaded with zest from lemon, lime, and orange. The texture of the cake was springy and light, too, which went well with the lightness of the citrus. Hummingbird cupcake: Also made in a full-sized cake version, the cupcake was just enough. It’s a spice cake with nuts in it and cream cheese frosting. It’s a pretty solid cupcake and I like it more than the citrus one. Have some milk handy to down it. Earthquake cake: Well Jesus Christ… I mean… it’s almost like an upside down German chocolate cake which is literally one of my favorite cakes ever. It comes in a small foil tin, enough for at least 6 people comfortably, and wrapped in plastic wrap. Sure the presentation is a little interesting, but once you dig in, your eyes become big and you wondered how on earth could something so modest looking pack so much delicious, coconutty, cream cheesy goodness?! At the bottom of the cake, which you can’t see until you dig in, is a glorious mixture of the aforementioned. So moist and tasty! Watch yourself, you may find yourself in the nook of your couch eating the whole thing. That was almost me. I love this place! And I NEED another earthquake cake!

Hummingbird Bakery & Dessert Bar wasn’t. looks like a hybrid selling coffee, italian sodas, etc to pay the rent while also offering gourmet cupcakes, cakes, cookies. eats: white chocolate, chocolate chip, peanut butter cookie(1) –good flavoring for a cheap cookie –cookies 3.5 stars. crumbs: –should be 4 stars, isn’t cuz i haven’t tried cupcakes, cakes, the unpriced ones –cookies sell @1, 1.25 also unpriced. great value for the price!
