CJ’s BBQ & Fish

Ordered ribs with hot sauce, got chicken with mild sauce, and wrong sides.
Server was sullen just to the point of rude.
I will not be visiting here again.

The food is really good. They’re often out of a lot of things and the customer service stinks. But its the best barbecue in Vallejo.

A solid bet for some good ribs. I have been eating there for some time, and the ribs are always solid. However I may be mistaken but it seems as if the ribs are now are at times boiled and then grilled. As any barbecue person knows, a good measure of flavor and texture is loss in the boiling process.

The food is great with reasonable price. I am giving this place a 3 because the lady at the register shouldn’t be taking order with one hand while holding a half eaten fried catfish filet in the other hand with her mouth chowing down on it.

Really great food. Could be a whole lot better if the lady working the register didn’t act like she hated her life and hates you even more for bringing business to their establishment.

I was excited to try this place but was sorely disappointed. The service was ass. All the other reviews are mad accurate when they say the woman at the counter is rude, unwelcoming, and just plain mean. Like my bad for providing you business and a happy demeanor. Didn’t realize it wasn’t welcome. Won’t be coming back, but it seems like that’s their goal.

The owner did not act like she was happy to have customers at all. No «hello how may I help you» no smile no nothing and then served our food in TOGO boxes cause we ate our food in the restaurant so she was not pleasing nor happy to speak to, barely made eye contact with us or cracked a smile. My father asked for a bag and she just threw it in his hand and said «here», didn’t even attempt to open the bag for him. Didn’t wanna provide no water or anything. Didn’t say Thankyou for us eating their food. Was WAYYYYYY to much FAT on my ribs and too much sauce

First off, no personality at all, waits for you to say something, then just looks at you and says are you ready to order, no «hello may I help you’ she acted like she was doing you a favor and I believe she’s the owner.
Got the 3 way, ribs were so small they were even cut in half, like baby size, chicken was ok and links taste like Hormel hotlinks from foodmaxx which are gross. Too much sauce, prob to hide the mediocre taste of the meat. The attitude didn’t help the food either, will never go back here again, not worth my time or money and food sure not with it. Will not recommend this place to anyone.

I would’ve give them no stars if that was an option. This place offers a rare combination of the worst bbq I ever had, lousy service and jacked up prices. I am never coming back here

This place was my first time going so I was like let me try it out. It was not good and it was very expensive all we got was the Hot link dinner. This place got some work to do. The people that run it had a guy making are food and he had Gold teeth it is not something you where working at a restaurant. The food was not good I was so mad I try it out.

Food is delicious, customer service sucks! Everytime I come up in here, I get rude ass service.
Only thing keeping coming is the damn brisket, links, and beans.
Wake up Vallejo… too many decent business with the ghetto mentality. Back to American Canyon I go.

Don’t ever serve me BBQ and everything has a lot of sauce on it. Just bad rep on BBQ. I been there twice and both times I wasn’t impressed. They served me reheated fries when I order a two way, sauce was everywhere not good at all. Will not be coming back. I cook way better. O yea and always out of Greens.

Rude service, but pretty good BBQ as long as it’s not lathered in BBQ sauce. They do need a few more sides!

Pregnant with a bbq craving and it was completely satisfied at cjs!!!
They were on point with everything big portions not stingy and so yummy. We loved it. 8 ribs 3 links and so much beef with 3 sides for $ 23! Worth every penny. Sauce was great too. Very friendly workers too. They have my support for sure.

Solid BBQ spot, decent pricing and options as well. Usually get the 3 way combo with 3 meats and 3 sides. I prefer the sauce on the side just to keep it under control. If they had better seating I’d give them a 5, it’s much easier to call ahead and pick up the order to go.

Walked up to the counter to order, waited for the lady taking my order to take a break from watching family fued.(awkward) So i order the beef hogie with fries, while waiting for my food, the lady that took my order went next door to get food (i should have taken this as a hint) so i get my food to go. When i get home i open the bag and tray… at first it looked good… big portions and alot of bbq sauce. Fries were excellent but the meat in the sandwich was nasty, tasted like week old low grade beef that had been reheated multiple times to the point that the bbq sauce was burnt… threw the sandwich away, i only hope that the one bite i did take doesnt make me patient zero in the zombie apocapocalypse…

Drove up to CJ’s, having seen it a few times but never trying it out.
Me and (turns out to be) Rodney met eyes. I said I’m looking for some good fish and chips, and he replied that he’s got what I want.
It was a nice day out, probably mid 70’s, but it was closer to 80 inside this joint, and it somehow seemed right.
Now, good fish for takeout lunch is hard to come by, and my experience is that, good or not so good, it aint cheap. CJ’s is no exception.
The menu is BBQ and various fish. Initially thinking some kind of ocean whitefish is what I’d order., but then catfish nuggets caught my eye, and that’s what I ordered.
Came with two sides, and here’s my only complaint: less fries, more SLAW! The french fries were fine, thick cut, nice and moist. But the slaw…
Coleslaw is a matter of taste, and there are many ways to make it. Cjs cuts the cabbage a little thicker, so it stands up to the mayo and whatever else they use to season it. And they happened to hit my taste buds square in my happy spot. MORE SLAW!!!
The catfish was breaded lightly, cooked just enough to be crunchy outside, moist inside. AND not over salted. It’s always a bummer to get overly salty food of any kind. So nice job you guys, letting the product stand on it’s own flavor, with room for salt should someone have to have it. Not me, seasonings were all spot on.
I had hollered back at Rodney how I hoped I’d get good and full on my $XX Catfish Nugget w/​two sides lunch, and I was not disappointed. My girl and I could have split it in half and been satisfied. Good thing she wasn’t with me today, because once I started in, there was no turning back!
The value is there, because the portions are LARGE.
As I grabbed my takeout order, Rodney stepped out to introduce himself and ask my name. We shook hands, and my eyes met the other two on his crew today, and I left there feeling good about finding CJs.
And then I ate…:)
Cant’ wait to try some ribs!!!

The food is amazing… Best bbq! I live in socal and will make a special trip here when in northern California every time!

Yuuuuuuuuummmmmm!!!

Been driving by this place for years and decided, today is the day I give it a try. I was not disappointed. Ordered a slab of ribs and it came with 3 sides: Mac and cheese (yummy), baked beans (good), and French fries (made fresh, cut the potatoes in front of us… But they were quite soggy). I had to toast the fries when I got home and that fixed them right up.
The ribs were delicious, there was a good amount of sauce on them but not overpowering. The sauce was mild, sweet and just right. I’m definitely going back for more ribs!!!
