I grew up skiing at Sipapu and recall many meals consisting of microwaved mini-pizzas and greasy chile cheese fries at the upstairs snack bar.(Of course, I wasn’t complaining about these back then!) Thankfully, the fare at Paradise Riverside is a far cry from the food of yesteryear. This outdoor grill and bar is located on the backside of the ski lodge, overlooking the river and mountain. The menu features burgers, hot dogs, chicken items, and deep-fried appetizers. On my most recent visit, the food for our large party of 11 was prepared quickly and everyone thoroughly enjoyed what they had. Two favorites were the Wormwood Burger(grilled with mushrooms and Swiss cheese) and the Fried Green Beans, which came with a tasty dipping sauce. Pair your meal with a nice cold beer – both New Mexico-brewed and national brands available – and you’re set. Prices aren’t those of a snack bar either. Most entrees end up running $ 10.50-$ 12.00 if you pair them with a side of fries($ 2 extra). That being said, I felt the food was worth it. A side order of fresh mountain air and the relaxing sound of running water are priceless. Not to mention, the next restaurant with good food and a full bar is a good ways away! Whether you’re just passing through or in the mood to take a break from«roughing it» at your campsite, Paradise Riverside is worth a visit.
