Being a true Texas girl, I need a good go to BBQ place. Thought I’d give this one a try. Bad choice! Ribs were tough, BBQ sauce too watery and potato salad was truly nasty. It was similar to mashed potatoes and sugar cubes. Maybe that stuff works in Yankee-land but here in Texas, that is disgraceful! So, if your looking for a good olé BBQ standby, just keep on driving, this is NOT your place!

Went to Evett’s Thursday night for the ribs, but they are closed. Not sure what their hours are. Not open Thursday night for dinner, evidently.

The secret is in the sauce! Love their brisket. It is so tender and it makes the perfect sandwich with that yummy bbq sauce. A must stop if in Uvalde!

I have tried time and again to find BBQ that I love as much as Evett’s and my efforts always fall short! I always stop by(unless they are closed, which seems like it is every time I’m in town) and stock up on brisket sandwiches. I’m really not crazy about their potato salad(it’s really sweet) but my husband will eat quarts of it!

Brisket was greasy and fatty, sauce was average and on the watery side. Potato salad was interesting(pickle-flavor notes) and slaw was bland. Got a plate with two sides and a drink for $ 12, seems like a lot for what you get. It wasn’t horrible but I don’t think I’ll be back.

Their take on Frito Pie is amazing. If you’re more worried about delicious food than saving a buck, order the Frito Pie and sweet tea. It’s GREAT.

Truly good BBQ. I went here Friday and got the rib plate(Thursday and Friday is rib days). The meal was as good as always. I think they went up on their prices, though. The two rib plates w/a drink came out to $ 21; which I thought was a little excessive for lunch. That also might explain why we had the place to ourselves. And instead of putting the jars of pickled jalepeno’s on each table, they keep them at the counter and charge 25cents each(rip off). Aside from the food(which is always good), the other good thing about our visit Friday is that the owner’s wife wasn’t working the register. She’s got to be the rudest/unfriendliest person I’ve ever met. After we sat down, I saw that she was in the dining room on her lunch break. If she had been working the register, I’m sure I would only be giving this place 1 star instead of 3. And I’m only giving them 3 instead of 5 due to the price hike and charging for the jalepenos. But all of that aside, Evetts really is good BBQ.
