This is the kind of place that reminds one how special a small town independent restaurant can be. Sure the building is old and feels old, the bathrooms leave much to be desired but the food and charm make up for it tenfold. The ultimate burger was one of the best burgers I’ve had in a long time. It had a nice steak flavor from the grill which paired well with the Texas toast to make a unique flavor. All the comforts of home cooked food with a slight flair to keep it interesting. The ham and bean soup was special as well and a prime example of comfort food taken up a notch. We will return to give the prime rib a shot.

Excellent food! I’m more partial to their breakfast food, but their lunch and dinner items are delicious too! Great small town café feel, if you go often and you order the same thing every time, your waitress WILL remember your order. Great place to have a Sunday morning breakfast with the family.

It took me a while to figure out the«and bar» part of the name. Golden Harvest Café and Bar is all café, at least when you first walk in. As I sat at the table, waiting to be served, I was thinking it was the oddest bar I’d seen in some time. I mean, if you’re sitting at a table with a mustard, ketchup, salt&pepper & sugar holder, looking at a pretty extensive menu of breakfast and lunch items, see a small salad bar and a kitchen, you aren’t thinking«bar». The service was slow, but the server was apologetic for it. So when she said, very sincerely, she’d be with me in a little while, she wasn’t kidding. It was a long while. On the other hand, there were several tables, and one with at least eight people, and she was the only one working for at least the first 20 or 30 minutes. Small town; no rush; take your time. Fortunately, I wasn’t on a schedule. I did get the coffee, which was lukewarm at best, but helped pass the time while she came back to take my order. The staff here is clearly overworked. There’s no complaint about the friendliness or attentiveness, though. The food is okay. There’s a lot of it; it’s cooked perfectly. The eggs were tasty and not overcooked, the corned beef hash was okay, heavy on the potatoes light on the corned beef and almost tasteless. The Vienna toast was unbelievably good. The price was right. If breakfast isn’t your thing, the lunch menu with it’s country /farm panache looked good. Golden Harvest is a classic small town gathering place. Everyone seems to know everyone else. And as I was leaving, I figured out the bar part. .. it’s through another doorway on the left. It all makes sense now. Come for breakfast and lunch and walk through the connecting door to the bar and toast to neighbors and friends.
