Stopped on our way home from Truman lake for a little change up from the usual fast food stop. Great food, service and wine tasting. I was surprised I liked their Norton, have definitely tastes some duds! Family owned and operated. So glad we stopped!

LOVE this place. Discovered it with some friends a year ago. Went in for a tasting and appetizers, stayed for dinner and a couple bottles of wine. Loved the food, loved the wine, loved the atmosphere, and the people couldn’t be any nicer. We’ve now introduced all of our friends and family to this place and they too can’t wait to go back. Call ahead and make the 45 min drive south of KC… it’s worth it!!!

We were here last weekend for a wine tasting. The hostess greeted us and seated us immediately. She said that we could go ahead and wine taste but there were some people at the bar or we could order lunch and then wine taste. We were there for lunch so we sat down ordered our food and as soon as we were done ordering space became available at the bar. She said we could go ahead and wine taste while we waited for our food. Kevan the person who poured our wine was fairly knowledgeable with the exception of a couple flubs here and there if you compared what he said to what was printed. He was the owner’s son and said that he became very busy with the family business and had quit his full-time bartending gig to work at the winery full-time. He was explaining how his family was Greek. That explained the menu which was a little schizophrenic when you look at it. It had hamburgers, kebabs, gyros, shrimp, prime rib sandwiches just a little all over the map but when you found out his family was Greek it made a little more sense to have the Greek food and American food on the same menu. He was very nice and we were able to try all of the wine for eight dollars. If you buy a bottle of wine they wave the tasting fee. Connie our waitress came back and said our food was ready and so we sat down at the table and enjoyed lunch. She also had waited for me to try all the wines to make sure the glass of rose that I ordered with lunch was a vine that I would like. I thought this was extremely nice and said yes I enjoyed the rose please bring me a glass with lunch. She was very attentive and filled our glasses of water constantly and make sure we had everything we needed. She brought us extra sauces and napkins and made sure we were happy with the service we received. The owner came out several times to check on us and make sure we liked the food and the wine. When we left one person bought two bottles of wine, another bought a bottle wine, I bought two bottles of wine, and our last friend bought a bottle so we all left happy and full.

While looking for a new place to stop and have dinner on a drive home from Springfield Saturday my wife and I saw a number of signs along 7 along with a HUGE banner announcing the Red Fox Winery as well as a bistro open Thur/Fri/Sat. We thought a nice meal at a boutique winery would be the perfect end to a day together. Unfortunately that was not our experience. We arrived at the winery at approximately 6:30pm. On the outside it appears to be a very charming place. On the inside it’s simply ugly. Let me rephrase that — the décor is fine. The people are ugly. Not on the outside — they are ugly on the inside. I have never been treated so rudely at a service business in my life. We walked in and the first words out of the server’s mouth who«greeted» us was«do you have reservations?» Of course we didn’t, so we asked if we could sit at the bar(which was empty besides one patron eating dinner) and she indicated that would be fine. We took a seat at the bar and watched no less than 4 employees completely ignore our presence for 5 minutes. Not even a «hello, we’ll be right with you.» No smiles. No eye contact whatsoever. One older gentleman(who I assume was the owner) was not working, he was just chatting up the other person at the bar. One person was opening wine and two older ladies appeared to be in a dialogue about what to do about the intruders sitting at the bar. Finally a very grouchy woman(who I assume was the other owner) approached us and asked if we had reservations. Once again, no «hello, welcome to the Red Fox.» No «would you like to try a glass of wine.» Only a very curt and somewhat accusing tone about our lack of a reservation. I said no, but we were told we could eat at the bar. She said we could not eat at the bar, but we could eat out on the patio. It had been raining most of the day, was 62 degrees outside, and the sun was going down — there was no way I was going to eat on the patio. We walked out and will not return. Both my wife and I were flabbergasted at how poorly these people treated us. The upside is we returned to Lees Summit and found Infusions Bar & Grill which was the exact opposite of our experience in Urich. It was an amazing meal served by people who absolutely understand the value of each and every customer. You can read about that experience in this review: I hope the owners read this review and take to heart how poorly we were treated. If you don’t want people walking in you need to take your signs down off Highway 7. You obviously spent several thousand dollars in signage to attract people off the highway. It’s beyond me why you would take that investment and then treat walk-ins like intruders. I commented to my wife that we probably could have stopped at a random house on the way home, asked for something to eat, and been treated as guests. Congratulations Red Fox — you earned your spot as the worst customer service fail I’ve ever experienced.

My friend and I came in to have some lunch and wine and were very impressed. They have a wide range of wines from dry to sweet. I chose to have the Norton with lunch and we sat down and ordered. We split the hummus and Caprice(sorry if I spell it wrong) and I also had the gyro sandwich. Everything we had was fantastic. They also have their own spices and honey they make there. Last time I was in, they also had blackberries they picked from their land, but I didn’t see if they still had this. Looks like they also have a large hall area for any banquets or receptions. Great and fun place!
