Illini Union

This place looks really classy inside. There are plenty of couches to sit (or sleep) on and lots of events take place here as well.
The Illinois Student Senate office is located here as well as their meetings.

Being a student here for four years, the Illini Union has a special place in my heart. Not only is it the center of student body, but it also serve as a great and convenient study location.
Need a quiet space? Come study in the president’s lounge. Need to have a meeting set up with your other student organization members? Go up to the second floor in the RSO office. Don’t have time to go back home and make lunch? The basement’s got a variety of quick bites at your service. Need to checkout some tech goodies that are vital to your studies/​work? Hit up the tech center and they sell a lot of gadgets ranging from laptops to iphones.
A lot of student events are also hosted here in this building, in addition to some dance classes on the third floor. Oh, did I mention that this place is also a hotel? That’s right! It is also a great hotel if you are from out of town and want to visit the campus, since it is literally the heart of campus, physically right next to Green Street, which is the lifeblood of the school in terms of restaurants. Definitely check it out!

Pretty good place for students to study, hang out, and for campus events. Very old building, but still in good use.

Landmark Review:
Oh this place brings back so many memories, so many nooks and crannies. There is a lot of hidden stuff here that is great. I spent countless hours here studying away. Let me highlight some great finds
1. Bowling alley, arcade, billiards, xbox rental in the basement
2. Lots of restaurants downstairs to eat at and some snack/​coffee shops on the first floor
3. There is the Illini Union ballroom which serves AYCE lunch 11.95. A lot of professors stop here for lunch
4. Art gallery on the first floor
5. McKinley health center (I wish I knew about this when I was a student here)

11. Lots of areas to study including the lounges which are hidden off to the side. Great for naps, reading, or a place to rest in between test. My favorite was the vending machine room where you can grab drinks and just lay your head down when you get tired of studying
12. Finally if you want you can even book a room at the Union Hotel for the night

Illinois’ Union building is okay… It has some interesting performances and events every once in a while in the café, and the little store in the front is pretty handy when you need your magazines or some quick snack. That being said, the only original restaurant it had was shut down last year, and the downstairs section is icky.

Busy, busy, busy place.
I was there for a college tour with my teenager and the tour started here at the. That place is buzzing with activity and young folks with laptops everywhere.
Overall, U of I was a very nice campus. . did I mention it was busy?

Does anyone remember when the Illini Union used to have a real cafeteria in the basement where the food court now is? They served some of the best comfort food available. This was 20 years ago!

You simply cannot beat the Illini Union, the University of Illinois’s official student union. It is, without a doubt, the heart of the university.
As an undergraduate here, I would set up shop in the Vending Room (open til 3am nightly), procrastinate with concerts and improv comedy shows at the Courtyard Café, and go bhangra dance in the Ballroom when the Indian Student Association threw its parties.
If there’s a single spot in which to take in the University of Illinois, the Illini Union is it.

I stand blissfully corrected — someone just messaged me to let me know that my beloved Union Art Gallery has moved to the NW corner of the Union, connected to the Pine Lounge. Shame on me for not doing more research, but I’m glad to hear that it still exists. Get your nap on, kids.
