The bad: We made reservations for 7:30. When we got there, there was no host to seat us and the staff and owner briskly walked past us without a hello, like we weren’t even there, for 15 minutes while we stood at the door. Once we were seated we waited 30 minutes to order drinks. 15 minutes later, a really nice couple sat next to my family and I and they got their drinks immediately. Mind you, I had three anxious and hungry kids with me. A family nearby had to remind the waiter about us. The complimentary soup tasted like Pottstown water and chicken bouillon. Now the good: the hibachi chef was AWESOME! He was so good with the kids and really put on a show. The food he cooked was very good and there was plenty! Back to the bad: the waiter serving us drinks and condiments was a slob. He tossed our forks on the granite counter at us(like yo dude we have napkins RIGHTHERE) and what little we asked for took way too long and/or never even showed up. All in all: the Chefs and food are good, but there isn’t enough staff and the waitstaff they do have is poorly trained and rude — one waitress saw a couple moved to the bar upstairs and said«oh good!» and winked at us like we’d both lucked out somehow. Might go again, but we might bring snacks and our own condiments next time…

Love this place !!! Always nice service, and amazing food ! They even do great take out. Quick and just as good as if you ate in. Sometimes service is a little slow but that’s ok cause it can happen anywhere you go. He owners are always very nice.

This place is awesome. The owners are very friendly and are always working. I’ve never had a problem with the food that was worth complaining about. I’ve always done the hibachi… You get tons of food for the money and ALWAYS leave full and with a take home box. Also, their Kevin roll is the best. Definitely recommend a few things: become their VIP for a discount, do their hibachi, and try their Kevin roll. Won’t be disappointed.

Great hibachi dinner! Very entertaining and good eats too! Although I’m not a sushi or seafood diner I love going here. It’s always a good time and the steak and chicken hibachi is delicious! Family loves the sushi and shrimp there too! If you want dinner and a show stop by there!

Unimpressed! First ordered drinks. Very small, and didn’t have makers mark(ran out) so I ordered a margarita and told the owner how to make it, terrible!!! I think he forgot to put the tequila in it, so I ordered a shot… Not much improvement to whatever he made. Finally got my food, but never got the soup or salad prior, since the food came out first you’d think it would be hot, right??? No! Cold food! Although it taste ok, it was a sloppy mess of food all slopped together and juices of everything mixing together. Didn’t care for all flavored to marry. Fist time there and I guess it will be our last. Sad! I wish it would have been amazing! I thought it would.

This place can be summed up in two words: bland and boring. The steak was ordered medium and we got it as over well done. The cook was boring to watch and the rice and noodles were lacking in flavor. Never coming back.

My wife and I went here for lunch this week about noontime. The place was totally empty when we arrived, so when we ordered sushi for lunch, our rolls were done in record time. The volcano roll and spicy tuna roll were standouts, very delicious and plentiful. Appetizers are obviously frozen(shumai and gyoza) but tasty nonetheless. We will be back!

My wife and I had originally tried Fujiyama right after they opened for business. We literally live within walking distance, so we were very excited about having a nice Japanese restaurant so close by. But had I reviewed back then, I would have given them maybe 2 stars — food & service were very mediocre at best. Opening jitters, maybe? But after a couple years now of hearing others saying how great it was, we decided to give them another shot. SO glad we did! The food is excellent and the prices VERY fair for what you get. The staff is very friendly(though not always very easy to understand :-)) and the service has been great. They’ve also added an open deck in the back that gives you about a 20 mile view of the surrounding area, which we have taken advantage of a couple times now. Beautiful at sunset! My only minor critique of the place is the menu — being a totally Japanese/Asian menu, there are many items which are more than likely very new and unfamiliar to probably most people. With that in mind, I think the menu could use a bit more detail in terms of the descriptions of the entrees. Otherwise, fantastic place. We will be back many more times!

Food is wonderful. The staff is friendly and the historical building is beautiful. Only complaint is it takes a long time to get your food. Don’t go if you are in a hurry.

In 3 weekend visits, the food has been B-. Sushi could have been fresher on a Saturday night. Service was slow due to crowd, but very attentive. Serves alcohol which makes this a better social joint than meal only establishment. We like going here to hang out a bit.

A pleasant surprise awaited us at Fujiyama. We haven’t visited this location since it was the old Halfway House, many years ago. Our party of 8 consisted of Japanese-food veterans and new soon-to-be devotees. We sat at the hibachi grill and we not disappointed with the experience, from the soup and salad starters to the variety of tasty entrees our talented chef deftly prepared for our ravenous party. We tried a number of the hibachi entrees from seafood to chicken to steak and and we were pleased with the overall quality and taste of the food. The hostess and wait staff were genial and efficient. The saki was good and the wines were acceptable. We had a great time and we recommend this dining oasis in a region overloaded with tacky sports bars, same-old franchises, and pizzerias. Go to Fujiyama for a great time and wonderful food.

Sadly, they haven’t lived up to my initial expectations. The hibachi is fine, but the sushi is always a bit disappointing.

My fiancé and I have been coming here for the last couple of years. Judging by the number of birthday photos on the wall at the time I would say they were fairly new to the area. Their sushi is very good so good in fact we haven’t bothered to have any of the cooked items on their menu. The fish is fresh and tastes great. This isn’t going to be you’re upscale sushi joint and thankfully the prices reflect that. It’s good quality sushi at a very good price. The owners and staff are great, we try to make it during the weekdays because the weekends can get crowded and with less people around the sushi chef will pay extra attention to you. Since we’ve been regulars for a couple of years they always welcome us with a nice bowl of miso soup on the house!

The Kevin Roll, a shrimp tempura roll topped with spicy white tuna, is A-OK. Everything about Fujiyama, from the service to the masago to the salmon roll to the sashimi to the tempura ice cream, is A-OK.

It’s definitely surprising that in the outskirts of the already bucolic ‘burb of Pottstown, PA there is a sushi joint. Fujiyama is quaint — its building is reminiscent of an old farmhouse-cum-eating establishment. It’s apparently the happenin’ place in town for birthday parties — according to their menu, they give you free cake… according to the front wall, your picture gets posted in remembrance of your epic day along with all of the other cheerful Pottstown folk. The sushi was expected. No surprises in either direction. The Kevin roll was huge… aesthetics swapped for quantity, but satisfying and pretty good. The sashimi/sushi was fresh. The tempura ice cream was embarrassingly delicious… probably because by «tempura,» the folks at Fujiyama meant«fried in cake batter.» And they have quite the sense of humor… reference le photo.

This is our go-to restaurant in Pottstown. We frequent this place at least once a month. The staff is warm, inviting and always so friendly. We have not tried the hibachi portion of the restaurant because we crave their sushi. We never leave this place without having their fuji volcano– this is an 8-piece spicy crabmeat roll with a nice salad tossed with tuna piece; and their half-way house roll. These are two must haves when you visit this place. Pricing is very good for the quantity you receive. We’re «VIP» members, for a one time $ 5 fee, you get perks of a certain percentage off, free ice cream on your birthday and once you spend a certain amount, you get a gift certificate back — check back of menu for details. Must try if you live in Pottstown!

Fukiyama Japanese Steak House(Hibachi) is not your typical place. The resturant resides in a Colonial farmhouse style building(used to a resturant known as the Halfway House). As you walk in you encounter a small bar that about 8 people could occupy to have drinks and a tv for your viewing pleasure(if you want to change the channel just kindly as the bartender for the remote). The host is a sweet asian lady that reminded me of they typical sweet asian grandma. There are private seating on the first floor as well as the second floor, depending on whether you want sushi or hibachi(where you sit around a table with strangers randomly placed depending on when they showed up to the resturant). Saying Sushi will get a private table and Hibachi will get you into a room with Habachi tables. The menu has a good selection of Japanese food(sushi, tempura, salads, soups, teriyaki, udo etc.) The sushi was fresh and tasty. Hibachi seating was fun, the cook(guy who cooks for you) was quite entertaining and it gives you an opportunity to meet people. Food was prepared the way you want it and this was the first hibachi that had soup, salad, noodles, rice and vegetables included with your protein selection. Most places offer just salad, rice and vegetables. So, for the price you get alot on your plate. We definitely went a second time but this time for lunch. They have lunch specials that are great and service again was great.
