Doors are locked during working hours and no one answers the phone. Was trying to give a local business my support but they seem to have a very poor business ethic. no note on the door and it was 11am Monday

Maryland Small Arms Range(MSAR) has become my go to range whenever I need practice. The Pros: — If you’re using your own fire arm you don’t have to buy their ammo! — There is one flat fee to use the ranges(not hourly)! — The counter people are polite and helpful. — The atmosphere at the range is positive and professional. — There are cameras in the range area but no one stands over your shoulder while you’re on the range. The Cons: — The lighting in the range area needs to be improved. — The range equipment is dated. — For me personally it’s almost an hour drive but I rather drive the hour than use the range where I live! I think this range could rival some of the Northern Virginia ranges if they improved the lighting and offered IPSC and/or IDPA indoor events. I’m at the range at least 3 – 4 times per month and whenever I’m shooting indoors in Maryland you’ll find me at MSAR.

So for my birthday this year I decided to go fire a couple of rounds at the range. They were running a special on groupon and groupon was running a sale so I figured it was the best time I give it a shot! Since I went on a weekday in the middle of the day there was barely anyone there so I walked right in and got a range. The guys that worked there were all super nice and helpful. I got a brief lesson on how to shoot and was off on my way. Once inside since it was my very first time all of the noises made me a little nervous and firing the gun(revolver) for the first time was a little scary. But after a few practice shots I was fine and really getting into the grove of things. I will say a box of ammo goes really quickly with one person so if you are planning on sharing a deal with someone you may want to buy an additional box or two.

Tony is AWESOME!!! If you need lessons, ask for him. I threw my birthday party here with 20 guests; some had never even held a gun before. Tony taught us all the basics in a classroom setting and stayed with us on the gun range. For such a large group, Tony kept us engaged and entertained for 5 hours. Everyone had a great time! Also, the range was very accommodating. They let us bring food and non-alcoholic drinks into the classroom. All and all, I had an amazing experience from the instructor to the facility and pricing. I highly recommend!

I don’t have anything to compare it to — but I had a great first time experience here. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. The facility was huge and clean. You pay a $ 20 flat fee and can be there for as long as you want. The best advice I can give you is if you are going on the weekend — get there before they open. I pulled up right at 10am and they already had a line. Luckily we were there early enough to not have to wait, but I’ve heard the wait can be a few hours. Definitely check it out!

Love this place. Especially on the weekday. The weekend can be a 2 – 3 hour wait, but that’s the fault of the gun-hating state making it harder to have more ranges that cater to all the firearm sports. Great ventilation, 50-yd lanes for rifle/pistol combos and a really well stocked rental inventory. I have my own arsenal, so I don’t know what the condition of the guns are per maintenance and instruction. Big Mike is such a blast to talk shop with. My only complaint is that I have two 500 rd cans of 5.56FMJ I cannot use because of the magnetic core. From what I understand, this is not really magnetism as it relates to dangerous use at the range, but I guess that’s up for debate. Better safe than sorry. Staff is friendly when not being slammed. I’ve never had any attitude problems. Ammo prices for small calibers is reasonable, but 223, 556 and 3006 is a little steep. Still, ammo is a pain in the ass everywhere. Great lanes, clean and big.

this place is a great place to use the range. there is a flat $ 20 fee to use the range, no time limit. no annual fee’s like other facilities, and one can walk in and grab one. i like to go during week days, when it’s less busy. you will see many law enforcement officers coming here to use their facilities. they have great assortment of pistols, rifles, and supplies. i have my own pistols, but if you don’t you can rent. they also offer CC classes.

One time when I was driving I instinctively turned into the skid and avoided a crash. It was instinctive muscle memory from playing racing games as a kid. For some odd reason, I believed that playing shooting games would make me an expert marksman.(Moral: Parents, spend time with your children) I got there at 11:30 today(Friday). There were only two other people there. I was simultaneously happy and concerned by how simple the process was. Me: Hi, I want to shoot at stuff. Can I have a gun? Guy: Okay. Give me your license and credit card. Here you go! Me: … I’ve become really addicted to being alive, so I asked for a quick tutorial. The guy was really cool about it and gave me a quick but thorough 3 minute tutorial. I couldn’t help but worry, however, about the people who don’t ask. I rented a Glock 17, bought two boxes of bullets(50 bullets apiece), four targets, headphones, and goggles. It all came up to $ 80. They have Groupons a lot, but there were no 9 mm packages available today. The range is loud(duh), so double up with earplugs and headphones if you like. Goggles shouldn’t be optional. I can’t tell you how many shell casings flew directly into my goggles. Once my 100 bullets were spent, I left. There was a 45 minute wait by the time I came out at 12:30. As for my marksman skills… I’m sticking to this story: The Office of Ordale A is not responsible for the actions of the bullets once they leave the gun. I aimed perfectly at the target. It’s the bullets that screwed up.

My go to shooting range. I usually go with my father but instead went with my husband and his family. The wait was ridiculous; 1.5 hours. If you go early in the morning, the wait won’t be so long… If you go later, bring food and a movie because you’ll be waiting awhile. Most people that go are nice and like to offer tips for shooting. If you’re lucky they will let you shoot their guns. Do not make fun of people while you watch them shoot. Tons of rookies come here to learn and practice. Be nice.

I really like their new range! More space, a range for rifles, waiting area, their store area is nice & off to the side. The only thing that could make this location perfect is to contract for a MD approved fingerprinting agency to come out 1 – 2 days a week so if you wanted to purchase a gun from them, as least you could begin the process at their shop.

The staff here is super friendly! My friend and I went here on a Thursday afternoon with my Groupon deal and didn’t have a wait. We also brought two of our own guns and we were able to shoot them as well without a problem. We had so much fun! The ar-15 is a mean machine! We will be returning here again. Definitely recommend this place to anyone.

As a first timer, I walked into Maryland Small Arms Range about as nervous as once could get(Why do people like guns so much? Because frankly, this seems quite dangerous!). After checking in at the front desk, I was told that there was a short wait for a lane, and short it was lasting no longer than 10 minutes. With Groupon in hand for a 9 mm shooting session for two, I headed to the counter where I was assigned a lane, given ammunition, targets, ear and eye gear, and a firearm(FYI: they will ask you what type of gun you’d like and«Just a regular one» is apparently not a sufficient answer!). Did I mention that I have NEVER shot a weapon before? The employees here obviously run across my kind quite often, so when I kindly requested a quick tutorial, they happily obliged. After a 10-minute beginners course on how to load and handle the weapon, and getting all of our numerous questions answered, we were off to our lane and ready for target practice. First off, for all you newcomers, the range itself is loud! Even with your ear protection on, guns firing are still pretty deafening. After setting up our lane with their targets and loading the gun, it was time to shoot! After popping off the first few rounds, something strange happened. Is the gun jammed?!? Trying to figure things out on our own didn’t seem like such a good idea so we were off again looking for staff to help and they were all to happy to not only clear the gun’s chamber, but also stand by afterwards and help us shoot. That’s top notch service in my book. One piece of advice: Ladies, dress appropriately. The weather was warm, so it was not uncommon to see women in the range wearing shorts, dresses, and lower cut tops. I do not recommend this. I had more than one expended shell makes it way right down my shirt, and those things are hot!!! Next time, I’m marching in with a turtleneck! Overall, this was an amazing experience and though my fear of guns has not subsided, I will be making my way back to this great facility!

The other reviews are accurate. I went somewhere around 10:30am on a Sunday and didn’t wait at all. I got the groupon for the revolver for two people. One gets all one needs. Fifty bullets and four targets was enough for us. It was efficient, clean, and the people working there were as friendly as they needed to be. Not surprisingly it didn’t seem they did a background check, or anything… they literally just hand your party a gun with one ID and a credit card. It’s like borrowing the pool cues at a bar… haha. I’d happily go back if I felt the desire to shoot… and didn’t want to shoot up the neighborhood :)

Staff was friendly and helpful. I used a Groupon deal then ended up buying more ammo and targets because we had such a great time. Facility was clean and we had zero wait time for a lane. Prices were fair. Would definitely go back.

This new location is only a short distance from their previous, but comes with major improvements. The ventilation inside each range section is significantly better than before. Because the entire facility is divided into smaller sections with limited amount of lanes in each section, the noise level is minimal. Additionally, they now have digital yardage control panels. Cost is still reasonable at $ 20/day per lane rental. Unfortunately, they still don’t offer annual membership as yet. In this regard, I’m pretty sure they figured such offers would negatively affect their bottom-line, since attendance is relatively high, and no other competition in their immediate area.

Nice shooting range. This place is at the end of a back road near an industrial park, so it is off the beaten path but easy to find with a basic GPS. Be prepared to wait especially on the weekends, I had over an hour wait to use the lanes, make sure you grab a ticket as soon as you walk in the door. Also be careful, my wait time was less than they quoted when I first arrived because I guess people took the ticket heard there was a couple hour wait and decided to step out for a minute, their loss was my gain. No real tutorial, if you have an ID and a credit card, they will give you a gun, so just grab it and go shoot. They also offer some classes if you want to actually learn how to use the weapon. Staff is just okay, they are kind of matter of fact, they aren’t the friendliest bunch but no one was rude. One issue was during checkout, trying to get someone to take their gun back took forever. All in all, nice place to shoot a few rounds, especially if they offer that groupon deal again.
