I have noticed quite a few of these stores opening in the MD area and I can see that they are capitalizing on the recession. A lot of people are cutting back their excessive spending. I just happened to be in this area and came across the Dollar General store in the Food Lion shopping center. I have not been to one of these since I was very little. I know that Family Dollar has just about cornered the market and has taken much of the Dollar General customers, but there is still something about these stores that are reminiscent of My Old KY home lol. The chain has gone through several ownership changes such as being privately owned to most recently going public, which may be the reason for the unveiling of about 600 stores in the near future. The Dollar General store is the essence of a small business type of franchise that has weathered several decades and has met the needs of those in rural towns. These stores are many times forgotten in the land of Walmart and Target. I typically shop here for laundry detergent, greeting cards and/or other household cleaning items for lower than the market value. DG also accepts coupons YAY.
