I was looking for another Peruvian restaurant to try out and i found this one. It’s definitely a family run place with the local patrons being Peruvian. The place is small and it looks like it could seat less than 20 or so. You sit, ask what they are serving and eat or take out. There are no menus from what i gathered so you’re gonna have to be a little familiar with what you order or you can ask the Lady and she will help out and tell you what they are serving. But who knows, they might cook one of your fave dishes. The nice Lady said to me one of the dishes they were serving was tallarin but i ordered one of my favorites lomo saltado. It was soooo delicious, and it was a good portion too. I washed it down with some Inka Cola and that hit the spot. Ahhhhh! Try it or any other dish they are serving. i will try the arroz chaufa or tallarin next time. BTW, they are no longer called Donuts & More and they have moved from Upland to RC where the Rockabilly Deli and Grill used to be on 9047 Arrow Route Suite 190. I was informed by the nice lady that they’re going to be called JP Latin Deli… I think LOL.

We wandered out to Upland based on the review by Naomi D., and were not disappointed. Local Peruvians were gathered around the tables chowing down on lomo saltado, chaufa, and tallarin saltado(the first two dishes were described accurately by Naomi D: the third dish is a noodle dish with sauteed meat, vegetables and many of the same seasonings as lomo saltado. There is no menu but the lady up front will tell you what’s available. The portions are very generous – if you’re not starving, each dish could easily feed two. They also have anticuchos(marinated and grilled skewers of beef heart) with a delicious green onion relish on the side. My son and I weren’t too impressed by the anticuchos but my Peruvian husband said they were good. We all agreed that the best dish by far was the lomo saltado. The chef also makes some of the best alfajores I have ever tasted(sweet, crunchy cookies with a filling of manjarblanco – Peru’s answer to dulce de leche). Don’t let the donuts fool you – this place is an authentic huarique(hole in the wall) with great food!

DON’T BEFOOLEDBYTHENAME. In the morning it is a donut shop but by 1pm it is a Peruvian restaurant. There is a dual ownership, but give it a try. It is family run and the couple is really friendly. If you have never had Peruvian you’re in for a real treat. It is a fusion of creole, Spaniard, and Chinese aspects of cuisine. My favorite dish is called Lomo saltado. It is strips of beef sauteed with tomatoes, onions, garlic, and cilantro. Soy sauce, vinegar, and chicken stock are added to give this dish a juicy mouth watering flavor. Last added is a handful of french fries and a nice helping of white rice! Another delicious entrée would have to be the fried rice. It is similar to Chinese style fried rice but still has a creole flavor to it. Causa rellena is also delicious and so refreshing. It is boiled potato mashed with lemon juice, mustard and a peruvian pepper: aji amarillo. The filling can be either chicken or tuna mixed with onions, celery, and mayonaise. It is a layered appetizer: potato mixture, chicken or tuna mixture, and another layer of potato mixture. It is served chilled and is excellent. Come by and give it a try. You won’t be disappointed!
