Sand Dollar Spa & Massage

I purchased a 60 minute massage with a mini facial from groupon.
The outside of the building looks sketchy… it’s an older, dirtier building that could definitely use a pick-​me-​up, but once you get into the building, it’s cute. It’s set up fairly tiki-​ish. I arrived at 10:00AM and my appointment started promptly at 10:15AM. This was the day after New Years — I was sore, tired and hungover so I was expecting this to be the most amazing massage ever. Nope. I did fall asleep, twice. Mainly because I was tired… not because he did anything to relax me. He did mention that communication was key and if I wanted things to be firmer or softer than he could do that, but I like my massages light but the movements weren’t all that great.
He woke me up and told me the massage and facial was over. Umm, okay. I got fully dressed and walked out of the room to look at the time… it was 11:00. He jipped me 15 minutes. I didn’t say anything because ONE) he should have already known and TWO) I wasn’t about to get naked and lie back down for another 15 minutes.
I wouldn’t recommend this place, solely on the time management but it wasn’t a horrible experience.

When I went to this location to use a Groupon I had purchased with a friend, I was pleasantly surprised. It looked clean and the staff seemed friendly. I had purchased a 20 minute teeth whitening session and even upgraded to a 40 minute session. I was told that their main ingredient in their teeth whitening (carbamide peroxide) was 3 to 5 times stronger than hydrogen peroxide, so a smaller percentage of the ingredient would still make a bigger difference with little to no teeth sensitivity. Yes, there was no sensitivity but there was also VERY little whitening after a 40 minute, uncomfortable, session. After talking with my dentist, it turns out that carbamide peroxide is NOWHERE near as powerful of a whitening ingredient as hydrogen peroxide but it is more stable so it can be used without trained professionals. I can’t believe the staff blatantly lied to me. I’ve had better results with whitening toothpaste.

Good massage. The front looks like it may not be that great but the inside is quiet and calm. I got the Living Social deal for my boyfriend and I for the 90 minute massage. Both of us enjoyed the massage. I would recommend it to others.

This place is extremely unaccommodating. I have never had such a horrible experience with using my Group-​on Discount. I tried to make an appointment before the discount expired and there was only 1 time slot available before the discount expired. As a working woman, I cannot make a 2:45PM appointment. They recommended I pay an additional $ 20 on top of what I already paid for the discount to book a future appointment after the expiration. That’s ridiculous! I’m not even going to try this salon now because of the hassle I’m going through. At other venues, I was able to use the discount after the expiration because they understood that I had already paid for it. This salon does not understand. They are not running a customer-​oriented business.
