A hidden gem. Always so fresh. The amount of fish they put in their sushi is great. The ratio to rice is great. Which is impressive bc too much rice is a pet peeve of mine(who wants to pay $ 8 for rice and a half of fish scale?). The freshness and ratio keeps me coming back. Pricier than most places, but certainly worth it. Gets crowded in the evenings. BYOB :)

This is my favorite place for sushi! I’ve been coming here for years. The sushi is consistently fresh. It’s BYOB which is always an added plus for me.

Will always be my favorite sushi spot of all time in NJ. The consistency of the quality of food, service, and environment is five stars! Although they do not deliver, everything about Kyoto Sushi II makes it all worth it. Also, it’s BYOB and the very best fried tempura ice cream I know — it’s a MUST!

5 years later and we still drive extra to eat sushi here! Quality is still awesome. Now my 3 year old daughter loves the spicy salmon rolls and hibachi noodles!

Great place! Great rolls and the miso soup and salad are fabulous! Only reason why they don’t get 5 stars is they don’t deliver and the wait can be long. However, quality of food is great

Eh. Shrimp tempura in my roll was old and was not made fresh… It was cold and the tempura on it tasted stale. Wouldn’t go here again.

Alright guys, let me be frank. It’s only right to judge the quality of a restaurant, especially when it comes to raw seafood, relative to it’s area. You’re not going to get Jiro quality sushi in Central Jersey. However, despite having lowered my expectations, this place disappointed our taste buds and wallets. The sushi wasn’t very fresh, the décor was old and tacky, and the prices were quite unbelievable for the quality of food. I don’t understand why this place has more than 2 stars. But I did see every single table order a form of Chinese American food, such as General Tso Chicken and Lo Mein, so that could explain it. We didn’t get food poisoning, so an extra star for them. We will never be back.

Hands down, best sushi in Union County, and some of the best and freshest sushi I’ve ever had. Spicy crabmeat roll and Yellowtail are my two personal favorites, but there is nothing here that you’ll regret ordering. The only downside is that it’s very small, but well worth it. Also great for takeout.

I’ve ordered from Kyoto II for years and have been continuously pleased with the quality of their food. They have an extensive menu including a variety of sushi, sashimi, and teriyaki dishes. Everything is very reasonably priced. The restaurant itself is fairly tiny so you’re usually better of getting takeout(they don’t deliver). Regardless of whether you eat in or take out, the service is always very prompt. I highly, highly recommend!

Best sushi in or around Union. Very easy to order pickup with the BeyondMenu app. Have had most of the special rolls on the menu, best in my opinion are the Spicy Girl Roll, Dynamite Roll, and Phoenix Roll. The only issue, and this is minor, is that they don’t deliver. But the quality of the sushi more than makes up for this minor inconvenience.

This is the best sushi I’ve had in the area. I have yet to have a bad roll from here and the prices are reasonable. Only problem with Kyoto Sushi is that it’s a small, understaffed place and you’ll frequently wait a while if you choose to eat the restaurant. Still worth it, though.

This is my second favorite sushi spot in the North Jersey area. Whenever I visit my friends in Union, I secretly hope that we go here. They introduced me to this place and I am forever grateful. It’s fantastic and what a sushi house should be — welcoming and all about creating sushi and an experience that warms the heart. It’s a great local spot. The restaurant is small, but cozy. There are seats at the sushi bar and a few regular tables inside. The staff are very friendly and attentive. This place is BYOB, so the waitresses will offer to bring you glassware for your drinks. The food is fantastic and the menu is pretty extensive. I go in here with a small group usually, so we’ll get a sushi boat and appetizers(gyoza, shumai, and edamame are very tasty!). The fish is always fresh and sushi/sashimi well prepared. They make a tight roll here. Also, it’s not only delicious, but they have great presentation with their boats. Lots of oohs and ahhs at our table. My favorite special sushi rolls are the Black Dragon Roll(spicy tuna, eel, avocado), White Jade Roll(crabmeat, avocado, cucumber and spicy scallop), Dinosaur Roll(king crab, seaweed salad, avocado, and tobiko), and the M-16(shrimp tempura and asparagus with spicy salmon on the outside). Give them a try when you go to Kyoto Sushi II!

Good sushi, reasonable prices. I usually come here for lunch and get one of the specials(3 rolls for $ 12). The sushi has never disappointed, and the hot foods(Yaki Udon, etc.) have been good as well. Service is fast and efficient. Kyoto is a small place, and during peak times it fills up. If you’re coming for lunch on a weekday, best to arrive before noon.

I ducked in here for a quick, small bite before we had to head out to a big event. The place was pretty empty but a few people were picking up to go orders. We grabbed seats by the sushi bar and let me just say, the menu is extensive. There are so many types of sushi rolls here and they even have uni(which I don’t see everywhere). I got two pieces of salmon sushi($ 4.50) and a fried oyster roll(since it was the first time I’ve ever seen it, also around $ 4.50). Both were really good and tasted fresh. Wish they were a little lighter on the eel sauce on the fried oyster roll though. My boyfriend got the dragon roll, which was really good and the Philadelphia roll, which was decent. I’m not a huge fan of the cream cheese but that’s just how the roll is made. The staff were pretty on top of every thing since there weren’t a lot of customers it seemed. They were all pretty friendly. I definitely want to go back and try some of their other rolls and especially since they have fried red bean ice cream here!

My friend recommended this spot to me several years ago and I’ve been coming here since. Hibachi tends to be pretty pricey but it’s reasonable here, they have a wide variety of speciality rolls, and the food is of good quality. It’s a very small place, with a BYOB service.

My family, friends and myself frequent this place often. Great, fresh sushi. Small place, like any great place. Staff is friendly and prices are reasonable. Byob liquor store across the street. I’ve eaten here over 100 times literally. Spicy white tuna roll is the bomb

This place was my all time favorite sushi place while I still lived in Union. Their lunch special was a reasonable price, and sometimes I’d get sushi from here 2 or 3 times a week. I’ve only had the avocado rolls and vegetarian rolls from here, but I can only imagine how great their other menu options are when they can make vegetarian rolls so good. Even after moving out of Union, it’s hard to find a sushi place that beats this place. Absolutely delicious!

What a nice find! Thanks to the folks in the Union FB page for suggesting this sushi spot. We were lucky to be seated at the sushi bar as soon as we came in, while a party of 4 had to wait for a table. On a Friday night, it was a pretty full house, so the chefs had a few orders in front of ours, so we had plenty of time to people and chef watch. I always enjoy watching sushi chefs work, to talk with them, see what other folks order, and to get a look at the quality of ingredients. The green tea was decent, not a limp teabag as other places have served. The miso soup and salad that were included with my entrée were okay, good enough to wet the palate. My husband’s plate was presented well and all of the fish looked fresh and bright. My chirashi looked pretty too. Though it was smaller than other places, it filled me up! One of my favorite parts was that they put some furikake on the rice underneath the sashimi! The rice was well cooked and seasoned, that I didn’t sneak in soy sauce as I usually would. TL;DR. BYOB! Party of 2 gets seated faster than party of 4, especially at this small spot. All of the ingredients were incredibly well sourced and presented. My husband said the sushi chef should have used 2⁄3 amount of rice for a better ratio. Next time, I will remember to tell Chef that I am very allergic to shrimp so he will be more diligent to wipe his knife between different customers. And oh, the parking situation is a little bit ehh. There are several spots next to the block of stores. We ended up parking behind the stores next to the dumpsters in a poorly lit alley on a rainy day — not a romantic start to a date.
