My wife and I received a coupon in the mail for this place offering $ 2 off our total bill, so we took advantage and went. For lunch on a weekend, it was $ 7.50 per person, all you can eat before the discount. It was an excellent deal and the food was pretty good. I noticed the staff was attentive and were constantly refilling the food, keeping it fresh and hot. The only reason why I don’t give them 5 stars is because I think they could use a little more variety… they basically just have popular chinese food dishes like vegetable rice, general tso chicken, etc… They also had mashed potatoes and potato wedges. However, it would be nice if they could also offer other items such as mac and cheese, turkey, stuffing, meatloaf, etc…

There are many old reviews of this restaurant. Yesterday we had dinner there and it was a good experience. The wait staff was attentive and courteous, the food was plentiful, diverse and tasty and the facility was clean. It’s split into sections large enough to accommodate several simultaneous family or office gatherings. If you’re looking for a Chinese buffet restaurant, give them a try.

The lady at the register possibly owner was very rude and disrespectful! I asked her when the crab legs are coming out… she’s rudely said don’t ask her and you can go somewhere else. I was shocked! Also, the bathrooms are gross and they get annoyed if you ask for toilet tissue. The food is always cold and the clams always look old. I suggest to go elsewhere and save your money. They don’t respect their customers!

Been eating here for a few years now and I’ve become a regular. When you’re looking for cheap and good food, this is the place to be. The waiters have always been kind and they’re quick to get things cleaned up. I’ve seen some improvements in the types of food served, there are now more varieties. I can only assume that they are trying to improve which is good. Whenever I go eat, the foot at the buffet is always warm and if the tray is empty, they quickly refill it. What I love is the unlimited crabs and butter that is available. This totally makes the price too good to be true. For a simple Chinese buffet, I give this a 5 star. I’ll definitely come back again.

I was there for a quick lunch. Selection was reasonable as was the price. Food seemed fresh with acceptable taste. I will be back.

Being new to the area, I had read reviews of this place before hitting it up for a quick Saturday lunch. It seems some love it and others hate it. I particularly remember Steve G’s words when he said the food here was«purely subsistence grade». To be honest, I thought«what a moron, it’s a Chinese buffet, it’s like crying about the quality of the Wendy’s dollar menu». So why not, I’ll give it a shot. Steve G could not have been more right. It was 12:30pm on a Saturday — a time when a place like this should be amazing. But no, this place is terrible. Half the food I selected was cold. It must have been frozen at some point and not properly heated in the microwave. And if they weren’t cold, they were horrible tasting. Dishes which should be made with boneless meat were filled with bones. I can see a bone sneaking by every now and again, but three bones in the General Tso’s? Unacceptable. The soups were bland, the fish selection was poor, and the noodles and rice looked greasy and unappetizing(didn’t eat either). Only one positive can be taken from our experience at this restaurant, and it is the cost. Our horrible meal only set us back $ 16 for two people. You certainly get what you pay for. Bad bad bad, hate hate hate, do not like. Never again. ps: Unilocal won’t let me give this zero stars, but I would if I could!

Tired, boring and predictable, although not the worst Chinese-American buffet you’re likely to find. There is quite a bit of variety, but the quality of the food is purely subsistence grade. Not that this is an eatery you should consider if décor is important to you, the place is old and a bit dingy. Service is surprisingly adequate. Thirty years ago this was the Kingston, a low-end Continental restaurant which had become a local source of derision. The décor and cuisine, but little else, has changed. All things considered, Garden Buffet Restaurant is well below the threshold of «working class chic.»

Food was good for a late diner. It’s a buffet don’t expect anything extra out of the ordinary. Just another same o style at every chinese buffet. The price is reasonable fast refills is a plus.

I looooooooove this place! And its not bad on the pockets at all! [about $ 10 per person] The waiters are okay for the most part, they get a A– because of some of their attitudes. The place is clean. like really clean. The sushi bar, if thats what you want to call it, is exceptionally displayed. The food is really good, although with some menu options it is easy to say«wait, what did i just eat?» Did I mention unlimited crab legs and melted butter? Perfection. You should definitely eat here. It was never packed, but I always go early. Oh and there’s and ice cream machine =]

I can say this: ive never been sick from the food. Desserts are typical(boring) and the entres are what you’d find in any chinese buffet — nothing too special. But if you’re a simple person who wants food hot and good(not to mention cheap), this is the spot for you. My favorite place is Green Jade’s in Nutley, but this place is a close second. The bar is separated and in a room, which is a shame because i’ve never really felt compelled to enter it. My main concern with chinese buffets is that I like to eat in what Health Inspectors dub ‘danger hours’ — when food tends to be heated at a more dangerously low level than usual and people can be sick. I’ve never gotten sick from this place and have frequented it dozens of times. Over all, the food isn’t bland, nor is it oustanding in any way. But as a chinese buffet, it serves its purpose and does it with health in mind.

I’ve been to this place many times. It’s a faily big restaurant, lots of tables and booths. Regarding the décor, its really not the best, old and boring. No attention to detail. The bar is pathetic looking. Atmosphere is what you expect. Bordering on low class. The food however is good. Tons of choices, with the usual chinese fair to be had. Extensive sections, including a big dessert section, ice cream machine, even sushi is there to be had, although not much. They serve alcohol and even cocktails although honestly, i wouldn’t expect much quality on the mixed drinks. Bathrooms are somewhat clean. Waiting staff is quick and very efficient. On weekends they usually have snow crab legs, but dont expect to have many. There is usually low class people that will wait for the waiters to refill the station with crab legs and go up and take all of them for themselves. I wouldnt go there for a night out, typically this is just a place we go to when we don’t feel like cooking.

Located a few miles south of route 22, it’s where I used to go for lunch when working in Springfield. It’s not as large as other buffet places but the food is actually pretty good. Had some interesting talks with ex co-workers and one of a few buffet places I’d visit again. You need to get a car to get here, 15 minutes from Newark Airport and 20 – 30 from the City.
