I’m not too excited about Walter Café.
In the past week, this my least favorite restaurant experience so far. We had dinner tonight, a steak for me and a Thai noodle dish for my daughter. The food was okay. But I think it was sitting in the window under a heat lamp for about half an hour. So by the time it got to us, it was dry and congealed, like a big scab.
Which brings me to my second point… The service was super slow and very unfriendly. And they weren’t very busy. Weird. Maybe we caught them on a bad night.
We probably won’t be coming back. There are lot of other places to try in town.

Laytonville, CA
Excellent food, particularly considering the massive menu. I’ve eaten here many times and the experience is always positive. Good sushi, good cocktails. Occasionally there will be a minor issue, (tonight the burger meat was a tad under seasoned), but on the whole, considering the price, the quality is great. The newly added Thai menu is strong as well.

Walked into this restaurant and was greeted by a strong stench of fish. Was slightly put off by that but my friend and I still stayed. We both had the vegetarian pad thai, miso soup and hot sake.
The miso soup was very tasty, but sadly the pad thai was mediocre. Kind of mushy texture and lacking in very much wanted tofu.
The service, however, was on point and welcoming!

This collective has sushi, burger, pasta and with the recent adsorption of Ruen Tong, Thai food. In other word– an American restaurant.
Some reviews say that this is a must stop. Partly correct as it seems to be the only place open in Ukiah for dinner. I exaggerated a little.
Impressed by entrepreneur spirit of combining three restaurants into one to survive in a small town. Capitalism allows for collectivization. The reverse is not true.

By far best sushi around. Only eat sushi here. So good. The dynamite roll I would recommend to anyone. Perfect bbq eel on the dragon roll.

Potter Valley, CA
It isn’t the best restaurant in town, but it is the best sushi in town. The service is consistently friendly and they cater to little ones with a decent kids menu and learning chop sticks. The sushi is always fresh and delicious, we have yet to leave disappointed. Our only complaint is that some of the prices are a bit high.

This place has gone downhill. The service is terrible. First we had no napkins. Ordered Soup and one of them was cold. Then we had to ask for silverware. They brought us the wrong meal and didn’t even ask if we wanted anything to drink. The chicken was dry. And Chicken Marsala sauce was gross and bitter. Last time I go here…

Very disappointed. After reading the reviews and looking at the pictures we decided to try this place. Our food didn’t look anything like the pictures and after eating appetizers and dinner we both were still hungry. The tempura was not hot and crispy it was soft with a batter more like pancakes. The double shrimp roll was ok but not what was described on the menu. We tried to ask the waiter questions and either he couldn’t understand or didn’t care to bring us what we ordered.

I’m new to Ukiah and my best friend decided to take me here for lunch today. This place is a great example of never judge a book by its cover because the building may look a bit sketchy so to speak on the outside but the food on the inside is great! The crunchy Ukiah sushi roll and chicken yakisoba were amazing! Will definitely be back in the future and recommend to friends!

Eh. Never been impressed with this place. The food is ok but the main season for the 2 stars is the poor service. I have been there a few times and the wait times are always long and the staff is rude. Save your money.

On our way to arcata. Stopped in Ukiah for the night. We really didnt think there was going to any decent places to eat. We were totally surprised by production and the taste of the food here. The prices are reasonable and the service was great. Thank you

Decided to try this restaurant out one night after finding it online and looking over what seemed like a random menu of Italian, japanese, and other kinds of food. My boyfriend I took forever to decide what we wanted because there were so many things on the menu that sounded good! We ended ordering a ton of things…
The drinks and bread rolls they started us off with were really good and we ordered the avocado egg rolls as an appetizer. They were delicious! They have large pieces of avocado in it unlike the kind you were get at Cheesecake Factory or BJ’s. We tried some of the sushi because I can never pass it up and they tasted good. It wasn’t anything too special, but we stuck with some of the more basic rolls like the California roll. I had the potato gnocchi with the garlic sauce and gorgonzola cheese and it tasted amazing. My boyfriend ordered a steak medium rare and it came out more well done so that was a little disappointing since all of the food we had before set the bar at such a high level. Overall, it’s the most random restaurant you’ll ever go to, but the food is delicious and there’s something there for everyone.

I am giving this restaurant 5 stars even though they deserve 6 stars for amazing diversity in: menu selections, flavor, fresh food, food fusion, hospitality, friendly staff, cleanliness and the small town ‘café’ feel in a restaurant with great culinary skill and an aim to please. Don’t pass this little gem up! They offer fresh from the bay seafood, sushi, Japanese, freshly made pasta dishes, amazing steak dishes, burgers and more! Not to mention every drink you can think of… The prices are great considering the excellent dishes served. Thank you Walter’s Café for a fun and delicious experience!!! We’ll be back!

This place has delicious and unique sushi rolls. They are a bit pricey but you get what you pay for. I ordered the alaska roll and a fried roll and they were both fairly large. My FAVORITE thing here is the coconut prawns. Very clean and tidy. Friendly enough staff. I would recommend it over other similar local restaurants.

The service is slow but the food makes up for it. We were seated within minutes with a reservation but I felt sorry for those who did not think ahead on Valentines Day. The place doesn’t look like much but it has a huge menu full of deliciousness.
