A really good Mexican style breakfast at a very reasonable price. I’ve had the migas, chilquiles, and the juevos a la Mexicana. All are excellent choices. Some of the booths have holes in the seat cushions, but that just adds a little charm.

Third day in a row having lunch here. Had the parrillada mix(shrimp steak chicken) with a healthy side of rice beans and guacamole, corn and flour tortillas. Warm salsa and queso to start you off. Excellent. Need this place in California!

Rating system: 5 stars — Must try. You’re really missing out if you don’t. I’m either a regular here, repeat patron, or would be if it wasn’t cost or distance prohibitive 4 stars — Highly recommended, but may have minor things that keep me from being a regular or from giving a higher rating 3 stars — Good most of the time but not great. Will only eat here if I have a particular craving, or am unable to eat at my 4 or 5 star choices 2 stars — Do not really like it but will only eat here if I have to(eating group overruled my veto) 1 star — Avoid. Save your money, time, and stomach Overall — 3.5 stars This place is kind of a hole in the wall, next to a gas station. Pretty much most of the customers are Mexican, which is what you want to look for if you want some good Mexican. I typically give specific food reviews, but I’ll just keep it general for this one. I like that they give you pickled vegetables and queso free! I’m not aware of any places that do the queso with your chips(in addition to salsa). The food portions are also pretty generous. My coworker and I got different dishes and were very full afterwards. So if you want decent food with generous portions, come here. The reason for the 3.5 star(I would rate chain restaurants in the 3 star category) is because the flavors of the food weren’t where I expected them to be. For example, the carne guisado gravy was just ok in flavor(wasn’t bad, just decent). My coworker’s burrito was in the same category. Had high hopes but wasn’t wowed by the food. Nevertheless, I would eat there if invited but rather go to another place for some Mex.

Stop in at the corner truck stop if you’re liking for homestyle Mexican food. Good service, food and ranchero music coming from the kitchen.

This is my go — to Taqueria for my taco and menudo fix! It’s run by the same folks as Lindo Mexico on 271 north. Just closer to the house. I speak fluent Spanish, and usually eat high grade Mexican food. This is where older Mexican couples spend their money. I’m a regular. Fat tacos… lengua(beef tongue), barbacoa(cows head), Al pastor(pork with pineapple, onion, chili and spices… Red gooey goodness)…fajita plates… All kinds of Mexican staples… caldo De marisco(seafood soup) that is big enough to drown in… A friendly word of warning… Some of their hot sauces ain’t gringo friendly… and they serve fried hot red Chiles de arbol if the hot sauce don’t fix your jones. Mexican work crews eat at both places a lot. There are a lot of Taquerias around but I know what I like. This ain’t tex-mex, so be aware that the chiles are real. The waitresses speak enough English to deal with you. I’m the fat guy in the corner enjoying himself.

Excellent traditional Mexican food. Flavorful salsas, fresh ingredients. Warm from scratch flour tortillas. I had the fajita bowl plate. I ate half and was full. My husband had the beef and chicken burrito and said this is how to do it right. Great service. These gringos had no problem communicating with the friendly staff. Let me tell you about their clean menus with everything in English and Spanish along with photos of the plates. Also the prices are so reasonable! Will definitely be coming here again.

Pretty darn good food. Portions are large and service is quick, if they’re not busy. Price is right. I got a torta and a taco for 6 bucks, both were fairly decent considering Tyler is filled with tex-mex and not real Mexican food. Enchiladas come with a real gravy sauce, not hormel chili and neon yellow queso. They don’t charge if you want an extra cup of salsa, they also have breakfast items and a special for every day of the week. I’m very happy finding this place considering I’m from San Antonio and am used to good Mexican. Watch out el lugar!
