Absolutely disgusting! My husband and I LOVE soul food and saw this place written up on Tyler News channel 7’s Facebook page as a great place to eat. Wrong, wrong, WRONG!!! Ewww!!! My husband had the pork chop plate. It came with macaroni and cheese that was absolutely off-brand Kraft Dinner(no sarcasm, it literally was. It tasted like Save-a-Lot brand, which is fine for serving at home for dinner, but at a restaurant?!). It was gross. The food combination was weird and made no sense. It came with a thin, greasy pork chop, Mexican beans and rice, mashed potatoes and that God-awful Mac and cheese with corn tortillas. I got the cheese enchilada plate. It came with a nearly mummified chicken leg and thigh piece, ice cold, dry enchiladas, beans(which were passable. Cold and needed salt, but it was the most edible thing on my plate) and that horrific, mushy Mac and cheese(and one piece of it was green at the end! Yuck!!!). When we entered the place, we were stared at for a good 5 minutes by the waitress(? Hostess/waitress?) until I finally asked if we were supposed to seat ourselves or if she was to seat us. The place was completely empty, except for us(should have clued us in at that point, but channel 7 gave it such a glowing review, we though maybe it was because it was it was new and hadn’t found their customer base yet). Their menu was basically a very, very vague list of what entrees they served without listing prices of any kind, or even what each item was(some of them were Mexican food items I had never heard of) or what sides each came with. To reiterate, most importantly, the menu had NOPRICES. We ordered and the waitress/hostess lady brought out my husband’s food and didn’t bring mine out until 10MINUTESLATER! After choking down as much of this, frankly, embarrassing, food as we could, my husband paid so we could get out of there. Our total for two plates of gross food and two 16.9 ounce bottles of soda(couldn’t even splurge and sell 20 ouncers like even the gnarliest gas station does?!) was about $ 20!!! So, don’t eat here if you value food, at all, because I promise you that you could do a better job cooking at home, even if you can’t boil water, and next time channel 7 in Tyler gives any restaurant a glowing review, just know they’ve been paid to say so, THEYARELYING! Will never, ever eat here again. Such a shame, because my husband and I were so jazzed to have a soul food place to eat at when we visited Tyler.

Decided to try Annie Mae’s for Sunday lunch. They offered baked chicken or pork chop and a choice of several vegetables. I had the pork chop with black eyed peas, collard greens and cornbread. All were excellent especially the collard greens. It also included banana pudding, but it wasn’t quite ready and we needed to leave, so something to look forward to next time. Small place but very friendly folks there to take your order. If you need some good southern soul food, Annie Mae’s is looking like the spot!
