Pine Hollow Lakeside Resort & RV Park

Wish I could give 0 stars. What a dump. Poor management. Dusty, dirty, cramped. Overbooked my spot, I had to move or leave. I greatfully left. Owner agreed it was staff’s fault offered no considerstion. Pine maggots falling from trees, worms in fish (ODFW). LOOSERS! Please go to Rock Creek Reservoir instead.

Pine hollow… use to be a fun family place. Now it is an unkept dirty, hole, run by a rude, moneygrubbing old man named Frank. His money grubbing is bordering on criminal. You get charged for every little thing. But now, though there is nothing about it in the rules on their website, and they don’t tell you when you make your reservations, there is a 3 night minimum on holiday weekends. We played 72 dollars for 2 nights, and on day three, he started rerenting all of the sites that he knew people weren’t staying for the 3^rd night. Every time you question him, he says his rules. When you ask where they are posted, he says they don’t have to be posted, I just told them to you. The bathromms you pay to have a card key for, are filthy and smell worse than the portable outhouses.
The restaurant is a joke. If you order breakfast, you better not have plans for dinner. No joke. That’s how long it takes, and all the while, no refills on your coffee. The waitress, after I ordered an omelette, looked at me an asked how I wanted my eggs. The cook, or whatever the slob was, was cooking each item one at a time. Others customers were angry at screwed up orders that waited for forever. After an hour of waiting and realizing he hadn’t started on ours yet, we paid for our no refill coffee, and walked out
We won’t even get into how he runs out in his boxers to scream at women walking by…
Basically, if you don’t want the relaxing weekend you planned, to turn into a weekend with you planning out how to commit a murder, or a camping weekend to cost the same as a trip to Europe, find somewhere… anywhere…else to go…

I have been making Pinehollow a destination for family events for over 20 years. I have read all reviews on different sites about this resort and all have been what I have experienced over the 20 years I have camped there. The only reason I continued to camp there was due to fishing is excellent.
The owner (Frank) is a money grubber. He will charge you for anything he can think of. I also have noticed the campsites are littered when im setting up camp. I always do my part when checking out to pick up everything in the site no matter if it was there before or during my stay. The next time I would show to camp would be as dirty or if not worse then my stay before.
As for the restrooms they are very very dirty. You pay for a card to use them and they only unlock the door a quarter of the time. The restrooms are so dirty I refuse to allow my kids to go in without an adult to make sure its a clean area they are using.
I have had a number of friends and family camp there that will never return due to how they were treated by the owner. The owner charged them for a 3 night stay and when they agreed to pay they left on the second night and the owner re-​rented their site knowing they were gone. I then made it aware to the owner that he was double charging for a site and he told me it was none of my business. He has lost a lot of business just due to his lack of people skills and business skills.
Unfortunately I will no long take the abuse of the owner and I will stay at Rock Creek Reservoir for now on. Rock Creek Reservoir is only a few miles away with no worries of money grubbers. If he would clean the place up and act a little more friendly to the people that pay his bills he wouldn’t be losing so much business.
If you have the opportunity to camp there be ready with your wallet open and be ready for rude response.

This isn’t camping, this is pitch your tent 10 feet away from your neighbors truck with not so much as a measely bush to separate «campsites.» Without trees or bushes separating sites, there is absolutely nothing to absorb the sound from your neighbors. There’s a bar right there in campground. Not what I consider camping at all, but we were desperate for a place to sleep, which we barely did. We set up only out tent at 11pm and we’re rolling out at 7am. I will never return — I’d rather sleep in my car.

Great place to visit right on Pine Hollow Reservoir. They have been completely a lot of upgrades. New bathroom entry machine and beautiful log siding on store. Clean cabins which have coffee pots, refrig, air conditioning, two burner stove, and bedding. Clean camp sites. Kid and Dog friendly. They have propane fire pit for summer time camp fires. Good family place. Next to Anglers Restaurant and Lounge. Fishing year around.

Due to forest fires our annual rafting trip to the Rogue was cancelled. Plan B was made to raft the Deschutes River. The closest available campground near the river at a days notice for a group of 10 was Pine Hollow Lakeside Resort.
What you need to know:
There’s a $ 2 fee per bathroom key card which works one out every thousandth swipe, if you’re lucky. This was easily the most annoying part of the resort for me especially when having to go during the night. Since the women’s door wouldn’t ever unlock, unless someone was already in there or the door was propped open, I had to resort to using the men’s bathroom sometimes. I don’t know which was better as far as cleanliness but the men’s room won the medal for worst smelling by far. There are porta pottys scattered throughout the campground, too but I couldn’t go in. The smell was overpowering to say the least. Positive note: $ 2 fee is refundable at check out.
Hot showers (two stalls) cost $ 1 in quarters & run for probably 15 min. For women, the shower to the left, if you’re facing them, runs about 30 seconds longer. Once you push the quarters into the machine the shower starts so have everything ready, including yourself, because the timer is tickin’ away. If you, nor your party, have quarters then you’ll need to ask the office for change. Exchange before 6:00pm though because, yeah, that’s how early they close every night even on weekends. Quite Inconvenient for guests. There’s a laundromat & a station fish cleaning in the same area as the restrooms.
Bug repellant is a must. I got about 20 mosquito bites just while watching the sun set behind Mt. Hood one night.
There’s a restaurant bar on site called Angler’s but it’s not affiliated with Pine Hollow. I never did go in but heard from the group they serve stiff drinks & there was karaōke. Free wifi (password: gothooked) but it wasn’t the most dependable even with a strong connection.
Quiet hours are from 10:00pm until 7:00am & it is strictly enforced.
Whether the forest fires down south had something to do with the «No Burn» rule we couldn’t make a fire otherwise we’d be fined by the fire patrol that walked the premises routinely. The office sells propane campfire rings for $ 10 plus the tank if you don’t have one already. Not as good as a real campfire but at least we were able to get that small affect for our last night.
Paddle boats are $ 10/​hr to rent. Jet skis (July 1 — Sept 1) are much pricier; $ 75/​hr plus gas. There’s also the lake to swim in, an arcade room, beach volleyball, children’s playground, & VHS movies.
The office sells beers, sodas, grocery items, toiletries, camping supplies, life jackets, clothing, flip flops, & pretty much anything you may want or have forgotten.
Dogs are allowed but probably for a fee since we were asked if we had pets at check in.
The view from the sand was beautiful but the «beach» itself is far from it. It was littered with bottle caps, can tabs, broken flip flops, a sock, hair ties, fish netting, & other unwanted items on the sand. The sand is most comfortable when wearing footwear. It’s more of a pebble beach than a sandy one.
Overall, we had a lot of fun rafting the Deschutes, spending time with our friends, & watching the deer walk through at night in our camp area but whether we’ll return next year is up to Mother Nature. We sure did miss the Rogue though.

Dump and a Half
This place is a Complete Dump — and I would like to rate this establishment with only Half a Star, sadly, Unilocal will not accommodate said admonition. Here now, dear reader, the particulars — in no particular order:
1. Quiet hours set for 10pm. What a joke. The drunks and brawlers — right on the patio of the business establishment — kept at it way past midnight. Then some louse with a «gotta make up for my small dick with a big truck» starts the engine and revs it for some shakey-​pudding at approx 2am.
2. The entire place wreaks with the message «we really do not give less of a damn» — ceilings of every building and walls covered in spider webs and crust, no sign of management or adult supervision — nor any sense of organization.
3. Nickel and dime: showers cost an additional dollar — in quarters. To add insult to affront: the coin machine is stashed in the office (which closes at 7pm — or whenever the staff decide to leave). Oh, it just gets better — coin machine failed on second attempt at quarters. Nice.
4. No motorbikes or 4-​wheelers allowed in park according to sign. BS. Bunch of kids making a hell-​of-​a-​racket with said implements.
5. Electronic keys required to enter restrooms /​showers. Excuse me? I goto get my card from front desk — that will be an extra $ 2 deposit for the card. Really?
6. Day Two (well past sunset) — teenage girls «lookin’ for some» start a suite of obnoxious whistling… after a couple hours, guy shows up knockin’… whistling finally abates. Just guessing that they all got their shakey pudding.
7. Fire circles — had to move the one for our site ~30 yards to get it near the picnic table.
8. Looking for supplies at the camp store. Staff person on-​site provided the antithesis of service — proffered the attitude that I, the client, was a nuisance.
9. Individual camping lot signs and associated areas not in any way clearly demarcated. We ended up moving from D8 to D10 as occupant of D7 had, like an amorphous blob, commandeered all tenting area, picnic tables and everything else within the 50 foot radius.
10. A paucity of trash receptacles, picnic tables in a state of disrepair, signage holding the last vestiges of paint, etc, etc, etc. The whole place had the stench of being on its last gasp.
This could be a really nice camping establishment. They have a fantastic piece of real-​estate /​ideal location. My crew and I could turn this dump around in 72 hours.

Are you thinking about coming here for tent camping? Do yourself a favor and look every other place possible. The tent camping section consists of two or three meager rows of rocky spots all facing their on-​site restaurant. Though the place posts signs saying they enforce quiet hours after 10pm, when the restaurant lets out, it sounds like the noisy streets of a fraternity row. There were people drunkenly yelling until 1am on the night I stayed with some friends. When I told the person working the front desk the following morning, he was unapologetic and excusing the drunken yelling as, «it’s all part of it.» Part of what? Certainly wasn’t part of the additional charge system by person that this place set up for their tent camping occupancy – charging for extra people AND an extra tent.
Thinking of going into Angler’s for your morning coffee? Be prepared to pay $ 2 for what looks like diarrhea water. I’ve never paid that much for drip so horrible.
The night before we arrived, there was a girl who drowned in the reservoir, yet no signs had been placed up warning people about approaching the water at night.
This place, I imagine, is ok if you’re in an RV, where you can’t hear the drunken blathering of people who haven’t not yet acknowledged their alcohol tolerance. There’s a playground if you have kids; I wouldn’t trust it hasn’t been pissed on by some of the clientele this place draws, at least on the weekends.
This was hands-​down the worst camping experience I’ve had. And the staff was unresponsive to these comments when approached about the issues.
