I made a trip to Tybee Island tody. Exciting right? I know! We walked up and down the main streets, going in and out of shops until we found this one. Its a huge gift shop that has anything and everything. From honey coffee to hardware tools this place is a one stop shop. I purchased some beautiful sea shells and a craft beer infused push pop. The push pop did not disappoint! It was chocolate and divine, with hints of beer throughout. It wasn’t too overpowering. The sales associates were so friendly. Kristie helped my mom pick out the perfect jewelry box, and they wrapped and boxed it too! My experience here was great. The staff really made my experience exceptional through their great customer service. The prices are great and the selection is vast. Be sure to stop here the next time you visit Tybee Island.

Chu’s Department Store is such a piece of Tybee history that no trip to the island would be complete without a visit there. Some other reviews have remarked on Chu’s selection of semi-disposable beach kitsch, and it’s true they have plenty of that. There’s a market for that stuff on Tybee, though; after all, nobody is ever going to mistake Tybee for Nantucket(thank God). Chu’s recently hosted a part of the annual December Tybee home tour that benefits the SPCA, and they put out a very nice spread of coffee and refreshments. You have to laud their participation in this event and their support for a very worthwhile cause.

Chu’s has been a Tybee fixture forever and we always stop by for postcards, or a Savannah souvenir cookbook as gifts for friends. They also sell terrific picture /history books on Tybee, Savannah and Isle of Hope plus kid’s picture books, Savannah Bee products, Tybee tee shirts and other Tybee things as well as inexpensive trinkets and beach wear. The hardware section is really helpful if you need to repair something. Also have some fishing items and a mini section of drug store items. People who work at Chu’s are always friendly and helpful.

Chu’s is an interesting store– its quite massive compared to others on that section on Tybee. There’s tons of the cheap generic beach tshirts– the ones you can find in almost every beach town with the same picture just the beach name underneath changed, beach toys, cheap and cheesy souvenirs, towels, etc. However(and this is the reason for the 4 stars), they also have items that you won’t easily find elsewhere on Tybee– they have a small hardware section with items like lightbulbs, nails, a few small tools, automotive stuff. There is also random items thrown in– Spring Break of my sophomore year I found an old Goonies VHS tape for sale, I bought it of course. The store does have a creepy vibe, especially toward the back side of the store– probably due in part of the old Gypsy fortune telling machine that no longer works.

I’d like an order of Sesame Chicken and a ah… Oh this is not a Chinese Restaurant… Probably the lowest quality and Cheapest Beach shop on this street… Their sign looks like a Chinese Restaurant… This is a Beach Shop like all the others except they have a section of books on Haunted Savavah, so that was cool! No Speedos! For men’s swim wear they had nothing even close!!! No one on the Island does either! Hopefully you will not be ordering Chinese food here, or looking for Speedos!

This dilapidated store filled with trinkets and beach necessities was an amusing place to kill 15 minutes while picking up souvenirs for under $ 5. The husband and I had fun laughing at the terrible pirate/crab/dolphin themed trinkets, and then picked up a glass dolphin for his mom(which she loved). The K-Mart vibe is a little creepy, but the prices for baubles are less over inflated than the other, more overstuffed tourist traps on the block.
