My group of 4 adults and two children had the following off the dinner menu… Chicken Picatta, Sun dried Tomato Alfredo, New England Clam Chowder, French Onion Soup, Quesadilla off the kids menu, Scallops and Shrimp and a double order of house favorite appetizer mushrooms. Chicken Picatta was under cooked, bland, and the sauce scant with very little character or flavor of any kind. Came with three little stalks of boiled broccoli and yams which were cooked properly but no accompanying sauce or seasoning, or anything to enhance them at all. Sun Dried Tomato Alfredo also somewhat lacking in flavor and seasoning. Three of us(one child) had the New England Clam Chowder — it was totally lacking in any flavor of bacon and I could see no sign of the smallest piece of clam. Additionally, the chowder was too starchy … seemed to have been over thickened with corn starch. Overall a very poor product. Caesar salad was ok. Mushroom appetizer excellent Service good Pre-meal bread very good prices high for the quality of the food served to us.

One of the coolest places I’ve ever stayed. We got the last available room(Cabin Z) and that worried me: were we getting the least desirable room in the whole place? No! I loved it, and would choose it again. It is small, yes, but very private and quiet. We could hear coyotes all night. And the stargazing was marvelous! I was glad not to be too far from restaurant when we made our way back after dinner: it is dark as pitch out there! The town of Twentynine Palms is a little bit scuzzy: we’ve stayed a couple places there in the past, and eaten in several too, and this is far and away the best place for eating and sleeping. Plus it’s near the park. Falling asleep smelling the desert air through open windows is an experience you just don’t get at a chain motel in town. The nature walk by Pat(inquire at desk) really enhanced our visit to Joshua Tree. They provide a lovely breakfast and will give you a brown bag lunch for $ 12. Also the cabins all have a cooler in them they will fill with ice in the morning, for your picnic.(This was appreciated because we flew there and did not pack our own cooler.) Dinner was great too: live music nightly and the best chicken piccata EVER.

Phenomenal! Great food, great staff, never a bad choice! People come from all around the world to vacation in the area and they all eat here. Prepare to meet people from all walks of life in an off the beaten path casual dining setting with the quality of a much more formal atmosphere.

I never stayed at the hotel, but I eat at the restaurant every time I’m in the area. It has very nice ambiance. Poolside and decent menu. My only complaint is that the food is extremely salty. Even the bread. Ask for no added salt.

Good local spot… awesome ambiance, good food, good drinks. Do yourself a favor and eat here instead of spending your money at Denny’s.

This place is the most enjoyable part about the 29 Palms town itself. The restaurant features local artists, and even had a live acoustic guitarist performing while we were there. They feature various photographers and painters on their walls, and have a very courteous wait staff. They have a full wine and cocktail menu, including a bar, and, as aforementioned, are definitely the most exciting dining option in the town of 29 Palms. Although pricier, definitely worth it if you’re in town.

Great stay there this weekend! Actually four couples and we all loved it. Dinner last night was superb, service was great and the entertainment was wonderful. Ten people this morning for breakfast and it was great! Thank You! Thank You!

I’ve stayed here once in one of the theme rooms and have enjoyed dinners here several times over the past decade. The most recent stay was particularly enjoyable as it was a reunion of sorts. The hotel is located in the middle of the desert just outside the 29 Palms entrance to the Joshua Tree National Park. The establishment has a history of artists and features a sustainable menu that includes vegetables straight from their garden to your table. The digs are pretty amazing. The water works are original and the place has a timeless feel. Highly recommend avoiding the summers as it is best enjoyed when the heat is not at its fullest. They do have a pool outside of the restaurant, which is a decent way to spend a day relaxing. The restaurant that accompanies the hotel is a gem of the desert. I know that it’s worth making trip in its own right. I’ve enjoyed several of the meat dishes here and think the vegetables are amazing. They offer a full service bar that hosts a cast of desert creatures that makes for outstanding people watching and we always make new friends when we head out that way. Truly a place to experience — will return at first opportunity.

In the middle of our Joshua Tree NP we started to get really hungry, so we pulled up Unilocal and decided to head to this gem. Our food was terrific. My husband got the clam chowder, which was so good that it rivals those you’d find in Boston or Newport, RI. My club sandwich was tasty on what seemed like an artisan bread and served with a delicious and healthy salad. This place was a perfect spot to refuel our bodies before returning to the park.

The food is always good. Last time I ate at the inn the butter pats served with the bread tasted freezer burned. I asked for fresh butter and was told that’s all they had. Was a bummer though still probably the best place to eat in 29 palms.

When you’re out here in the wilds of 29 palms, choices could seem limited to some. But hidden away, way away, on a dirt road with a dirt driveway here it is. You might be questioning yourself as you pull into the dirt lot«why am I here?» Well you are in for a treat. The menu may be limited but each dish is created by a good chef with terrific ingredients. Let’s take the pork chop, the salmon scallops, all excellent around our table, and the side dishes are cooked to compliment them oh so well. If you’re in 29 palms this is a place to eat dinner that is definitely worthwhile. I’ll be coming back when I’m in Twenty-nine Palms. Oh Yes, there was live music(a guitar player) who did a fine job !

Who knew?! Really delicious food, superior service, excellent vibe, great music… THE best place in the area — hands down. Had dinner with the most obnoxious, high maintenance dinner companion ever. She’s a pain in the ass everywhere — every single time. She is incapable of ordering anything straight off the menu. She has to taste every type of wine before she orders a GLASS, needs two types of salad dressing, extra plates, different sides, etc. Her coffee drink orders(double decaf espresso in a tall glass with ice, with a glass of ice on the side, and another glass of soy milk on the side) are enough to put me a bad mood before the appetizers arrive, but the staff at 29 Palms Inn handled her ridiculousness without blinking an eye. My chicken dinner was sublime, and high maintenance friend’s Ahi salad with two types of dressing, with additional dressing requested midway through the meal was thoroughly enjoyed. Will be back — for sure.

I tend to give very positive reviews or not at all. This is the exception due to the severity of the issue. I stopped in for dinner at 5:30 November 11, 2015. I ordered the top sirloin cooked medium rare. The salad and the vegetables were fine. The steak arrived browned on the outside and completely raw on the inside. Not rare. Raw. As in barely warm. As in, «how would you like your E. Coli this evening?» The server offered to take it back to the kitchen. I told him, «You can’t serve raw meat.» He didn’t have a clue as to the seriousness of the matter. It was like talking to a brick wall. I will be filing a complaint with the health department in the morning. I know 29 Palms is in the middle of nowhere, but there is absolutely no excuse for serving raw meat. Eat at your own risk.

3.5 with rounding up. It’s a quirky little place in a random part of town. Were looking for a random evening with the boyfriend and this did the trick. We easily made reservations online a couple weeks before July 4th weekend. The concept is really unique, it’s a bunch of single/two bedroom houses/bungalows on a small plot of land with some activities, a restaurant, bar and a pool. Each unit is unique in design and style. We stayed in ‘Fault Line’ as we wanted the cool patio with the old school fridge and hammock. The rooms are not fancy but did the trick for an evening. The grounds are very clean. We didn’t get to check out any of the activities but they have an art activities center and yoga on site. The pool during the day was mellow and exactly what we were looking for: a bit of relaxing with some cocktails under the sun. We had dinner at the restaurant on site, and the food was all surprisingly delicious with great prices. What made it even better was that it was complete with live music(Jazz that night) in front of us, on the other side of the pool. Our server was kind and personable, making our experience truly enjoyable. Restaurant is also open for complimentary breakfast. Why the 3.5? I think, if they wanted to, they could put a bit of money into the place to make it less shabby and more shabby chic. Worth a visit for a unique night or two away from OC or LA. Lots of fun picture opportunities throughout the property.

Open again! Great service, delicious food, and good location. I’m very glad one of the best restaurants in Twentynine Palms is back. Ordered the Gyro(best I’ve ever had). And the party platter for three(photo added).

The 29 Palms Inn is a gem amongst the stones of Hi Des restaurants. They never disappoint. I had the Spinach Salad & it was perfect. Fresh. Loaded. Perfect amount of their Oasis dressing. I also had their daily special Wild Rice soup. Delicious. The wife is a vegetarian & had the Faultline Sandwich on whole wheat & it was tasty & hearty enough to turn me off meat. She was very happy with it. We sat outside by the pool & when the sun came out & started to overheat us, the waiter eagerly set up a large umbrella for shade. Good food. Good peeps!

After the 3 mile hike to the 49 Palms Oasis, a sound bath at Integratron, and rock climbing in Joshua Tree, dinner at the 29 Palms Inn was just what we needed and everything I had hoped for! We did not stay at the Palms and we barely made it to dinner before closing! I believe they closed at 9 on the Wednesday night we were there(9÷23÷2015)! I ordered the Top Sirloin MR and it came out perfectly seasoned and as rare as could be. It was amazing. So tender and delicious. The baked potato was great. The grilled vegetables were perfectly grilled. I’m so hungry for it even now. All the fellas attending us provided great service. We were sat outside by the pool. It was so peaceful and relaxing. Inside was a musician playing(so it was a little too loud for our liking, plus the night air and sky… can’t beat that). I highly recommend you dine here during your stay in/near Joshua Tree! Especially if you are not staying at the hotel.

Inasmuch that I didn’t want to go out to the desert in 115 degree weather to view the recent meteor showers, it was a worthwhile trip. The Inn is a funky little place with a number of unique little bungalows to fit your needs. Four of us were in The Guest House and it was quite large and spacious. The backyard was a big draw with a gorgeous tree canopy over a large table and chairs and chaise lounges. There were 2 queen size beds and 2 twin beds and oddly enough, only one bathroom, but the space was fine for us. Full kitchen if you want to cook with all the amenities one needs being away from home. It was clean, the service from the front desk was pleasant and we enjoyed good food and service from the restaurant. Only thing we disliked was the 9:00 pm cut off time for the pool. If you’re looking for an inexpensive place to stay while in the Joshua Tree area, this is recommended.

We stayed here for one night during the week. I was actually surprised that when I called on a Monday(for same day) that they were nearly full, but then again that could mean it was because they are a good place to stay. We were coming in later than normal check in hours so they told us to pay online and to get the key at the bar. It was really easy to find the place and everyone seemed friendly when we checked in. We stayed at the bottle room which was neat and had a cool feel. My favorite part was the claw-foot tub. The room is actually pretty close to the restaurant so we opted to walk there instead of driving. This room also allowed pets which is why we chose this hotel. As for the restaurant, the food was great! We got there about 30 minutes before closing but they were really nice about it. We ordered a bottle of wine, I got the steak and my husband got fish. Both were really delicious but my steak was literally cooked perfectly. You get a soup or salad along with veggie and/or potato or more veggies. We opted for the soup– tomato bisque which was okay. And more veggies. The service was great and we had a great time at dinner– they also had live music playing during dinner. One thing about the food though– don’t expect much with the breakfast– it is pretty sparse. You get a few options for bread with 2 toasters that don’t work, coffee, tea and oatmeal but with nothing to put in the oatmeal. It worked but wasn’t great. The property itself was nice– they have some walking trails around. And I believe they have a big garden which they grow alot of their own veggies. It is protected by a dog so you can’t go explore it. They do have a small, kind of grungy-green pond that has a cabin on it. The cabin seemed cool and there didn’t seem to be many bugs, which I would have expected with standing water. All in all, we enjoyed our time and the staff was great. They even let us check out an hour later and offered to let us use the pool after our check out time.

29 Palms is probably the best place to eat near Joshua Tree. Admittedly, the bar is really low, every other meal that we ate while we were there was abysmal. This place was rather popular, and we had to wait about 45 minutes for a table for 2 at 7pm. Since there were lots of people ahead of us, there was no room at the bar to even stand while waiting, so we waited outside in the 32 degree(!!) weather for about 20 minutes for the bar to open up, so that we could wait inside. Finally, after waiting 20 minutes outside in the cold, and 25 minutes at the bar(with the help of some some nice cocktails) we were seated. We ordered the«famous sauteed mushrooms» to start — and they were absolutely delicious — and it was super tasty to mop up the garlic, wine, and butter sauce with the sourdough bread that accompanied the meal. While waiting at the bar, I noticed that most of the diners were having steak for dinner, so I ordered the USDA Choice rib eye, with mashed potatoes and vegetables. I ordered the steak medium rare, and it was cooked perfectly, and was tender and juicy. Next time I visit Joshua Tree, I would try to eat at the 29 Palms Inn again.
