Everything was top notch from what you would want from a relaxed, hole in the wall, bar food joint. Great food, service and ambiance. Very good Craft beer selection on tap. We enjoyed a cranberry bacon blue cheese salad, fish and chips and Berger and all were excellent.

Freezer to Fork. I understand The Rock is a Twain Harte institution, but that’s no reason to waste your money on bad service and worse food. Servers were nice enough, but clueless and very slow. Didn’t come back to check after food was delivered and didn’t clear dirty plates. Food not fresh, but would have been mediocre if it wasn’t so overcooked and dry. So much for medium rare. Major disappointment. Step it up Rock!

The Rock rocks. Went on a Tuesday night and the special was a Kobe Beef burger, desperate to have one, but I was suduced by the smell of BBQ, so I opted for the all you can eat ribs. Glad i did, they were excellent fall off the bone with the right amount of smokey flavor,(the beans not so much), the corn bread moist an sweet. Had to go back the next night as it was our last night in the area, in hopes of the Kobe burger still being on the menu. It was not but I had a Rock burger it was«DABOMB». Both night my girl friend had a salad, the were huge, fresh and equally as good. Great selection of beers on tap. If in the area it is a must.

Great place to go for a bite or a whole huge meal… Or pie… pretty much anything I have tried on their menu has been fantastic. Though my go-to lately has been a beer and their huge plate of nachos. The waitstaff is fun and engaging. They seem to honestly enjoy working there and are proud of the quality of the products coming out of the kitchen. I have been there many times and have never received bad service. Not even when they were a packed house.

Showed up here with a group for lunch including a newborn and infant. Restaurant is not that big but they were accommodating which we were especially grateful for. I ordered the house special fish and chips along with their Indingeny cider. Both were very good. Everyone else had a mix of burgers and sandwiches all of which were good too. We liked the chill atmosphere and friendly wait staff. We’ll definitely be back on our return visits.

I feel like I caught this place on a bad day. My wife and I split the French dip and the chicken salad melt, followed by the carrot cake. All were exceptional. Beer selection was good but limited. Service felt like we happened to catch this place on a day when it was unexpectedly busy, but it was a Friday, so that seems strange. The staff was good hearted and personable despite any stress — sometimes the food just comes out late on Fridays. Any way, our Airbnb was across the street so this joint is totally acceptable.

We came here upon the recommendation of locals and I would describe it as a lively, family-friendly restaurant with fast/friendly service and traditional pub food. All of this is to say that the food was«okay,» the beer was great, the ambiance fantastic and the service friendly. It was perfect for a quickly cooked meal for our group with young children. I wouldn’t mind returning on my next visit.

The Rock is a solid venue for a group meal in Twain Harte. Their upstairs area accommodated us nicely when we hiked over here in the cold evening. Our waitress was friendly and she did her best to get us out all of our dishes in as timely a manner as possible. I ordered the salmon with mango salsa, and a side of sweet potato fries. I knew as I placed my order — that the salmon here was probably not the best call — especially since it was one of the pricier items on the menu. My hunch was right. The salmon was a little overcooked and fishy tasting. The mango salsa lacked flavor — as did the sweet potato fries. I tried to resuscitate them with ketchup and salt — but it didn’t help much. Though the salmon here wasn’t very memorable — I still finished it and my dining companions seemed satisfied with their meals — many of which were chowing down on bold looking burgers. If you’re looking for a local dinner spot — that serves up cold brews and hearty fare — The Rock is still worth checking out. I would just recommend staying on top of their sure thing menu options and maybe even seeing what the waitress recommends. Trust.

It was a busy night, waited over an hour for a table, but with so few choices in town, what could we do? The place was lively and the waiting patrons were in good spirits after a day playing in the snow. When you’re in a small town, you don’t expect much from a restaurant. But I have to say the prices were reasonable and the food was quite good. It was Tuesday, so I went for the all-you-can-eat ribs, the kids had grilled cheese. The ribs could have been a little more tender, but they were flavorful and meaty. The sides of corn bread, cole slaw & pasta were a nice addition. The kids’ meals were well priced and included drinks. They were served a generous portion of fries. The servers were busy, moving quickly throughout the restaurant, but kept on top of drinks and ensuring our meal was going well while smiling and enjoying conversation. I brought a Caesar salad home to my sick wife along with a slice of chocolate peanut butter pie. The salad was good, even though they had to use mixed greens instead of romaine lettuce. The pie was very rich and was split between the four of us with no complaints. Next time I find myself in Twain Harte, The Rock will get my business.

My review is based on take out. We visited Twain Harte for a snow vacation at my husband’s cousin’s home. I got miserably sick and couldn’t join my sweet family for dinner the night they went to The Rock. My husband brought me home a Chicken Caesar Salad and surprised me with a piece of chocolate peanut butter pie. They ran out of romaine lettuce, so I had to settle for mixed greens. It wasn’t that bad of a sacrifice, but I would have preferred romaine. That’s what a Caesar Salad is all about! The chicken was ok. It lacked flavor and wasn’t very juicy. The pie was a pleasant surprise as I read great reviews about it, but it was a major disappointment! It didn’t taste like peanut butter to me and it was too rich for my taste. The peanut butter part was also gritty. Almost as if they used refined sugar instead of powdered. My husband had a great experience with our boys at the restaurant even though it was extremely busy. Maybe next time we venture back to Twain Harte, I’ll be able to try out the restaurant.

This place is a gem! We’d gotten a recommendation to come here from some friends and decided to come for the first time. My husband had the pulled pork sandwich– delicious! I am not a BBQ sauce fan but what they use on this pork is fantastic. I had the fish and chips based on our awesome waitress’ advice… I am a fish and chips snob and this was heaven on a plate! Five(!!!) perfectly fried/beer battered pieces of fish, yummy fries; even the tartar sauce was something special! You must have the Indigeny blackberry cider with your meal and the chocolate peanut butter pie for dessert(but share a piece because it’s huge!) Delaiah, our waitress was fabulous. She was super friendly, fast and shared some great places to go hiking next time we’re in town. We will be back for sure!

Friendly helpful staff, that handled our 6 person party with ease. Excellent selection of beers. Guinness on Tap. We had a full range of their burgers and sandwiches including the Tri Tip, Bacon Burger, Turkey„ etc. The fries were hot n the Spring mix salads were fresh and we’ll garnished. We ordered dessert ad an afterthought, but the chocolate cake was super fresh and a generous portion too. Nice Pub-style atmosphere

The food is good if you live long enough to get it. Almost 40+ minutes to get a sandwich !!! What an improvement! Went to The Rock to watch the College Football Championship a couple of weeks ago and I meant to update then because the service was so much better! Our waitress(Leann?) she was wonderfully attentive, fast and helped us with recommendations!

Terrific place for a late night bite, with laid back outdoor seating, surrounded by beautiful trees, a few aloof cats wandering around, Blue Moon on tap and friendly, attentive, and very competent service provided by the oh so lovely, Lauren. Looking forward to a return visit.

I was slightly conflicted about posting four stars instead of three, but I feel like a genuine effort was made to address the inadequacies experienced during a Sunday evening when they were short-staffed. First, the fish and chips here are excellent. Definitely one of the bests dishes, and well above average quality. I’d probably just stick with it for every meal if I were a local. It is massive, the battered fish is expertly fried, and it seems to be a good deal. I ordered it my first visit, and another person with me ordered it on our second visit. The second visit was on a Sunday evening, and they stopped seating people because they were so short staffed. That is maybe annoying for some people, but it was probably a smart idea. With the short staff, the orders were pretty slow coming, and we had to go up and get our own beers once because someone forgot to bring them out to us, but the waitress apologized and was extremely nice about it, which is maybe worth more than getting it right off the bat. My second visit I ordered the vegetarian sandwich, which was probably healthier than most menu items, but also a little on the boring side. I’d be hard pressed to really say anything bad about it, but it wasn’t memorable. I had some of the salmon another member of my party ordered, and it was grilled instead of fried as a special request. It was overcooked, but the rest of the plate was pretty good, and it was nice of them to honor a special request even when so busy. Overall, this is a solid place to eat in Twain Harte. Servers are nice, food is pretty good, and they have a good selection of drinks on tap.

Walked into The Rock 6:00 pm this evening. Took over 1 hour to be served. Restaurant was half full. Totally disappointed. 2 Caesar salads $ 12.00 ea. with chicken. Served a plate of lettuce stamped processed chicken and a cup of dressing. I have eaten hear years past. Must be under new management or owner has lowered their standards. Will think twice about returning.
