Excellent food(quite authentic) and excellent service. A nice find in little Twain Harte.

For a small town, this place is amazing! Excellent staff and service! We had a delicious meal, and we were catered to quite nicely! We got the Walnut Prawns, Broccoli Beef, Sizzling Rice Soup, Lemon Chicken, Chow Mein, Fried Rice, and hot tea. The prawns were unique as the included bits of pineapple, the lemon chicken was sweet, the soup was good as well!

Wow! As a globe travelling Bay Area CA resident, didn’t really expect good Chinese food in this area but was pleasantly surprised. After a long day of skiing and boarding, needed some good food and this place was just what we needed. For starters we had the sizzling rice soup and for entrees we had the cashew chicken(cashew, chicken and zucchi in brown sauce) and Kung Pao shrimp(peanuts, carrots, celery in brown sauce). Both dishes has very nicely bite size cut vegetables that showed attention to detail that most chinese places don’t. I also had a Tsing Tao beer to go with my food. Bill was around $ 30 or $ 35 which was very reasonable. Ignore the bad reviews, they wouldn’t know good chinese food if it hit them on their face.

After a long drive from the Bay Area to this adorable little town, my mom and I needed a lunch to satisfy our hunger. My mom has eaten at this place before, and she highly recommended it. We ordered the lunch special combo… of which is well worth the two extra dollars. Sooooo, the hot and sour soups arrives, and well is to die for. It reminded me of eating yummy Chinese on the 80’s in the Sunset. Just nothing like it anymore. Look no further– of all places this was unexpected. Our food came out hot and all was fantastic! I was a happy happy lady. Enjoy!

Only Chinese food in town, we were hopeful that it would be good. We have been coming back almost every week for dinner! Always excellent and good service too!

What a wonderful find in the Mother Lode! My wife and I enjoyed a great meal(with plenty of left-overs since we like variety and don’t mind re-heating later). This was an unexpectedly good meal in Twain Harte. We had lowered our expectations because of bad experiences in small towns with«Chinese Food» that includes day-glo orange sauces, crudely chopped peppers & onions and the other markings of bad, take-out style Chinese food. But the food at China House was a delight — without lessening the standard from what we’d expect in our snobby metroplex world. Hot and Sour Soup was good but not off the charts. Pot stickers had a wonderful crisp crunch and delicious stuffing. Eggplant special with garlic was especially tasty. Service was casual, as expected, but professional and gracious. We will return, for sure.

Who knew? We had just come from spending a day on the lake(Pinecrest) when we came upon China House. Being that it was in a tiny town off the beaten path we didn’t have high hopes, but decided to give it a shot anyway. Wow! Truly some of the best Chinese I’ve had, and that’s saying something considering I’m a Bay Area native and lived in SF for 6 years. The food was fresh, delicious, and beautifully presented. If you’re visiting the area be sure to have a meal there. you won’t be disappointed.

I am not sure why the reviews are so high. The place had a weird smell when I walked in. The egg rolls are decent. Soda had a odd taste. The soy sauce squirter was shooting sauce all over but on my food. The rest of the food lacked flavor. My moms food had a big hair in it from the waitress. Next time I will drive farther to sonora Chinese or the great wall.

The China House is our favorite Chinese restaurant. We find that overall we like the food here better than any of the other Chinese restaurants around here. My favorite is General chicken, but I love their broccoli beef and a lot of the others also. Also, the prices are very reasonable, especially the lunch rice plate and combination plate. My wife loves their broccoli chicken, which they customize for her to make it more spicy. Larry(head cook) and Wendy(runs the front of the house), the owners, are great folks. Very friendly and helpful. When it’s not too busy Larry steps out of the kitchen to talk with the diners and ask how everything is. We have banquets in their back room when we have a larger get together. Hope you love it like we do!

This was my first time here and was recommended by my parents who live in Sonora. We ordered the spring rolls, foil wrapped chicken, egg flower soup, chicken chow mein, orange chicken, and sweet and sour pork. The food was great! Fresh ingredients used and not super greasy. Also their iced tea was very refreshing, not gross Lipton out of a soda machine. The location is clean and the staff is attentive and nice. They have a buffet Friday night which I will definitely come back for!

I am a local who has been coming here for years. I want to say that this place serves great food, but I can’t. Chow mein tastes like spaghetti noodles coated in Heinz katsup, with micro portions of meat and vegetables. Same goes for the sweet/sour chicken. If you want Chinese food, go to the Great to Wall in Sonora.

Mediocre food but very friendly staff and the interior was nice and clean. We were the only people in the restaurant on a Saturday night, service was fast and the food came out quickly but it was very oily and the meat was of poor quality(chewy and gristly). Not much flavor differentiation between dishes.

This is my go to place for Chinese food when I’m in Twain Harte, which is often! Wendy and Larry are very accommodating, I love the ambience of the gas fireplace on a snowy afternoon. The princess shrimp are delicious as is the kung pao chicken. It’s always prepared just right! Wonderful soups, and very generous portions!

Typical Chinese place. Nothing special about the environment. It’s were I’ll go when I don’t want to drive into town. Although this sounds like I have nothing extraordinary to say, I do. This is a local favorite. Service is good. Owner is friendly. Food is fresh. Ya, Twain Harte is tiny and doesn’t have many options, but when driving down the hwy after a long day hiking, swimming or skiing, give this a go. You won’t regret it. Try the dish with crunchy noodles on the bottom. I don’t know what it’s called. Ask the server, it’s awesome. Mmmmm… Hungry now!!!
