We usually go once or twice a month for lunch. We always get excellent food and service. The location is very cozy and intimate since most of the seating are booths and it’s not loud. All of the lunch combos are worth the money and are good portions. You get edamame when you order beer, or at least I do.

We’ve been to this place several times and we’ve never been disappointed. The food is always fresh and the ambiance is perfect. The staff is incredibly friendly and they make you feel welcomed from the moment you walk in the door. My husband and I love going to this place. I highly recommend it.

Went for lunch twice. I liked their lunch rice bowl. Is tasty and different from most Japanese restaurant. It contained preserved pickles, minced fresh shrimp, and etc. Customer services is great. The atmosphere is like if you were in Japanese town. I noticed a lot of authentic dishes posting for dinner. Will definitely come back for dinner to try their authentic dishes.

Don’t order the albacore sashimi salad old fish and gross. I only gave them 2 stars because the lady in the front was very nice. I will never return.

I often go to Suzumaru at dinner time. There are a lot of incredible food for sake and shochu. That’s exactly Japanese style food around here. Suzumaru is real.

Ive only tried the ramen, so that’s why I gave it 4 stars The ambience is quiet, and authentic japanese. They’ve got room for big parties, or small. The service is good, friendly and usually pretty speedy. I always have a great experience when I come here. Although I admit I still need to try other items on the menu. I definitely give the ramen 5 stars!

It truly saddens to have to give this place a bad review. I honestly gave it a fair shot, Although the reviews weren’t too good, and the place is fairly new… I decided to give it a chance, I was very optimistic about the fact that it’s said to be an authentic Japanese place. I was very disappointed unfortunately. I love sashimi and sushi but the fish here isn’t fresh at all, it has an unpleasant taste. I guess the big item here is the Tofu, but came for the sushi not the Tofu.

Homemade tofu is absolutely bliss. You don’t often find it in other restaurants. To the tofu, I give 5 stars. However, sashimi is not good at all… At an authentic Japanese restaurant, I expect better quality. Other dishes are just so-so. I will go back for the tofu, though.

Awesome authentic family owned Japanese restaurant, not like those Korean run Japanese restaurants. Each bento box or piece of sushi is constructed with great love and care. The waitress overheard that the lunch was for my birthday, and without even asking her, she gave us complementary ice cream. So nice! Will definitely come back soon.

Stumbled across Sushi Kappa after finding out the restaurant I had initially planned to visit was closed. My friend and I were seated immediately. I ordered the pork cutlet curry, but asked our server if they could substitute the pork for chicken. Normally this would be a simple task but our server’s english was limited, so it made the request more difficult than expected. I think if this business plans to survive they need to have servers that can communicate. The pork was overcooked and frankly was not that good.

After having a few wonderful dining experience, and read all the comments. I only have one thing to say, this place is not particularly for sushi! If u don’t understand, please google the word«kappo» and then make ur negative comment! Try it’s steam egg, it’s tofu and nabe, it’s delicious! Japanese food is not all about sushi! Especially things like California rolls!(What kind of creature is that btw)

Must Get: homemade tofu & curry rice. the chef puts a lot of time and effort into these two dishes. the homemade tofu is light and silky. curry rice is made for THREE days! you can taste the heart put into this dish, it just melts in your mouth. Other good stuff: marinated radish & noodle dishes.

Japanese don’t just eat ramen & sushi all meals long. They have lots of dishes that are extremely good, yummy, light, and delicious. I never heard of this place before, but my brother insist that I come here to try some of their dishes. To my surprise, they’re really good. They’re known for their fried item, so make sure you order a few if you’re here. Fried food here does not have a thick greasy extremely like American fried food. Japanese uses panko crumbs for their fried food so it doesn’t leave your mouth full of grease after consumption. Must Get: 1. Fried Oyster — thin, thin, thin crust fried perfectly complements the fresh, soft, gooey oyster in the side.( ) 2. Suzumaru Hotpot — This is what sumo players eat. There are lots of vegetables with chicken and some pork balls inside the light miso soup base. I think they make their own miso soup because I never tasted any miso soup like this!( ) 3. Udon — Light chicken base soup with udons cooked to perfection( ) Tip: Sushi & Sashimi is not what you order here; they’re not known for that and you’ll definitely be disappointed if you do order them.

One of my favorite places to eat authentic fresh Japanese food!!! I love their curry and rice, seaweed salad, crunch rolls, sizzling beef… everything there is good! My in-laws eat here at least once per week and we try to make it out as often as we can. My only con is that the seats are uncomfortable. The cushions on the benches are worn so basically your sitting on a wooden bench or chair… but regardless, once the food comes out, you’ll forget all that cuz their food is amazing!

This is located at the end of a small strip mall, where Kairakutei ramen is on the opposite end, and a coin laundry, a Hispanic food place(they serve pupusas and other food), as well as some other stores are sandwiched in between. One of my friends think this neighborhood is shady(we were just here last month to eat at Kairakutei), and maybe rightly so compared to the surrounding areas like Irvine and Tustin Ranch, but I’ve seen lots of «shady» in L.A. so I said, «Woman, suck it up and let’s go eat.» My 2 friends and I came here on a Wednesday a little after 7:00p and it was still somewhat empty inside(the parking lot was full though, maybe people doing laundry? I dunno). Traditional Japanese music(enka) was playing throughout the restaurant and the big screen TV in the sushi bar area was showing Japanese program(can’t get any more Japanese than this). We ordered a bunch of stuff: tsukune(chicken meatballs), yakitori — both salted and with sauce, tuna tataki salad, agedashi tofu, sauteed garlic spinach, onigiri(rice ball), crunchy roll, sashimi, croquettes, tempura battered chikuwa(fish cake) with seaweed… The food was okay overall. Some were good like the crunchy roll and croquettes(huge), but some were bland for my taste, which I guess is probably better for me since I need to watch my sodium intake, but not as satisfying nonetheless. I can’t say much about the sashimi since I don’t eat it. Since we weren’t keeping tabs, we got sucker punched by the bill. Sure, 1⁄3 of it was drinks, thanks to my sake drinking peeps(I don’t drink that stuff), but we didn’t know how in the world we ordered $ 100 worth of food! Okay, after we all sobered up, we realized that we ordered close to 15 dishes. Lesson learned: always bring a designated sober human calculator/tab keeper when going to izakayas.
