Two stars because the waitresses were friendly. We stopped in for a bite to eat. Very disappointed in the Ruben, no idea what kind of meat it was. The hamburger was an awful looking soybean burger. Hopefully the shake will be good. Very neat place, cool history but will not be back

I love love love the palace! I’ve been a patron of this restaurant since I was a baby. My grandmother would bring me here to eat before walking down to spring park to play! I still enjoy coming here whenever I’m in town and indulging in a milkshake and a grilled cheese or the yummy fruity chicken salad. All of the waitresses are super sweet as well! If you’re looking for a family place, definitely stop here!

The building was erected in 1833 as The Railroad Hotel. It was later known as The Major Pope Railroad Hotel. The soda fountain was installed in The Palace in 1906 and appeared much as it does today. During the 1940’s and ’50’s it was frequented by a Deshler High School student, Harvey Robbins. It was here that he met and later married, Joyce Ann McKinney and they have been married for over a half-century. Feeling nostalgic for those«good olé days», Robbins Properties bought the vacant building and restored the old landmark in 2000. The well-attended(hundreds!) grand reopening was held May 23, 2001. This is a charming ice cream and sandwich shop.
