this place is dreamy. It’s a bookstore from a fairytale. From the artwork and local retail booths upstairs to the book arch and wooden banisters accentuating the extensive collection of literature. Absolutely a must visit.

It is almost like the paneled Victorian library that I have always wanted in my own home. Rich, dark, warm, wooden shelving with volumes upon volumes of books waiting to be discovered, taken home and loved. In a time when the written word is being challenged by digital medium and a dismal decline in quality education, this is a bibliophiles refuge. Nestled among the books are quiet reading nooks for you to browse among the selections. There is even a reading cave hidden in the Children’s section that should be sought out to be believed. I even taught my granddaughter to play chess in the second level on a cast resin US Civil War chess set. They have a nice coffee bar and an indoor water feature which is relaxing. They prominently feature local authors and musicians. Stopping in here is a must when in downtown Tuscumbia.

A beautiful bookstore right in downtown Tuscumbia. Lots of mahogany wood surround you as you creak around on the wooden floor and browse the books. They have a decent local music section, which is worth checking out. Free wi-fi. Excellent spots to sit and read, or tap on your laptop. If you want a real treat, follow the bookstore around into the children section and look for a cave in the bottom of the wall. Climb in and fall asleep for an hour. No one will find you. Five stars for atmosphere. Three stars for book selection. Five stars for local music selection. Five stars for location. …then there’s the café. Two problems here. Two giant problems. The first problem is the inattentive teenage girl you have to pull off the Facebook computer to fix you a drink. The biggest problem is the drink itself. Drink at your own risk. Absolutely, without a doubt, the worst coffee I’ve ever put in my mouth. And it ain’t cheap. My girlfriend and I stopped here for an iced coffee one day. Eight bucks later, we were tossing the liquid out the car window at 75 miles per hour. The coffee is consistently bad. I’ve tried at least 15 cups from here on different occasions. But DON’T let that stop you from visiting. It is SUCH a wonderfully cozy spot. If you get thirsty, just take a swim in the lake at Spring Park.
