Tuscaloosa River Market

The farmers and artisans there are superb, though the management leaves a lot to be desired. Lots of potential as a community space and market.
They should be encouraged by the city government to accept alternative forms of payment (such as credit/​debit or SNAP), or provide farmers access to Wifi/​phone lines so that they can do so individually.

Second trip to the NEW market today and still excited that we have such a great facility in Tuscaloosa now! It is clean, air conditioned but still feels like you are on the river.
Most of the slots were full and there were vendors selling everything from produce to baked goods… to neck bones and sausage. A couple of artists had pottery and other wares and hopefully this side of the market will grow as well.
It felt a little like a party with the vendors bantering with one another and lots of families strolling from booth to booth.
One more thing, the taco food truck parked outside the entrance was selling killer tacos and they’re adding breakfast burritos to the menu!
I would recommend it as a place to take the family and enjoy the experience of getting the freshest products while supporting our LOCAL farmers and artists!

River Market is the NEW home to the Tuscaloosa Farmer’s Market. I went for their grand opening today (5-​5-​2012). The facility is beautiful! A super setting right on the river, good walk ways with spots for viewing the river. The open air facility is stylish and easy to get in and out of and has plenty of room to move around. It looks like they are set up in a convienient way for the vendors too. They have access for their trucks, etc.
The main negative to me is the small number of vendors. Hopefully they will be able to attract more vendors who can offer a greater variety of goods. Of course, in addition to the new facility, the best way to attract more vendors is to have good attendance and patronage of the Market.
I’d rate as 3.5 stars, but rounding up to 4 because of potential for great success here!
