Went here after the lunch crowd. I got the Margarita cupcake and my husband got the banana split. When I got home, he wasn’t pleased at the way it looked and wanted to trade but once he ate it, he raved about how awesome it was and wants to go back today The icing was great on both. I’m looking forward to trying one with cream cheese icing. Side note– very moist. Its lots of hype. but honestly, my moms is better :)

I’m pretty picky about branching out of the wedding cake and chocolate cupcakes, but I really like all the other favors! Wedding cake is my favorite, but the chocolate chip cookie dough and the margarita are close seconds. When they first opened, I thought the icing was too much, but I think they changed it or put less on there since then. The cake is always moist and yummy if you eat it the same day, but take the other reviewers’ advice and keep it in an airtight container. Also, I like to microwave mine for 10 – 20 seconds… mmmmm!

The wedding cake cupcake is delicious but too sweet. The red velvet cupcake tastes like chocolate cake with buttercream icing. Overall a tasty treat, but too sweet. The cake tastes like a box-mix and the cupcake is too small in proportion to the icing. In spite of it all, it’s a thumbs up, but I doubt that I’ll make a huge effort to go back. If I’m in the area, I might pick up one to satisfy a major sugar craving.

I absolutely cannot rave about how much I love this place! I have tried several different flavors of cupcakes and they were all amazing. On top of having great cupcakes the service is speedy and friendly!

My fiancée and I went to Gigi’s last Friday and had a great time. It was an unusual time, though, since Tuscaloosa was about to be hit by a tornado. Service was good and everyone was friendly. We got our cupcakes and were about to leave when the owner suggested we not leave due to the weather. He ended up having all the employees and fellow customers take shelter in the hallway that connects Iguana Grill, a nail shop, and the cupcake shop. We appreciated the owner’s concern and a tornado did roll through midtown a half an hour later. Oh, by the way, the cupcakes rock! Frosting is super good and the flavors we tried were creative and tasty. Also, our cupcakes were not damaged like a lot of people have said because we took care not to jostle them. .. . also, we went through their kitchen on our way to stay out of the storm and it was clean and super full of cupcakes. It was pretty awesome. The employees also were nice and not sketchy acting!

Like the«King», Russ M., said«lots of hype». They’re overrated. It’s just a bunch of people looking for something new in a currently dormant city. The cupcakes aren’t even made fresh the morning of. That alone put them at two stars. Things didn’t improve when I actually ate the caramel apple cupcake I ordered, and stood out the door for. «Keep the door closed!» It may not have been the right choice of cupcake, but I must have gone on the wrong day or they were out of the good ones because it was the only one available that sounded good. The cupcake itself sits under a empire stately pile of icing, and it nothing shy of the product of a decent bakery; it’s not totally dry, but moist either; spongy almost. The icing is usually a cream cheese base, which is the preferred option over the basic sugar fluff. The icing is OK, but there is a ton of it. Some people melt at the site of the sugar tower, but personally, I say, «Where’s the homemade ice cream in this town?» This maybe too harsh, but don’t flock there like a sheep without thought. If you really want to try it, then I say you should because you need your own opinion, and many things should at least be tried once. I’m not one to count calories, in fact I never do, I spend every night with my my pint-sized best friends, B&J or Hagan Daaz, but if I’m going to consume 800+ calories and pay 3 bones, it better be extremely good.

After hearing a lot about Gigi’s and eyeing the outrageous line for a few weeks, I decided to brave the line and give it a try. After all who doesn’t like cupcakes? I stopped in on a weekday morning and there was barely a line in the store. The staff were friendly and efficient in taking my order and I was in the store for less than 10 minutes. I purchased the Southern Comfort, the Wedding Cake, and the Grasshopper. The Grasshopper was the major disappointment of my choices. The mint icing was delicious but the chocolate cake was more than a bit dry. The Wedding Cake was middle of the road, the white cake was much better than the chocolate but still on the dry side. The Southern Comfort was by far the best of the bunch. It was a moist cake that did taste wonderfully like pecan pie. While Gigi’s has beautiful cupcakes, after being disappointed by 2 of my choices I am not so sure that they are worth the price or any wait.

Lots of hype, lots of long lines, lots of chatter… at the end of the day, the cupcakes are ok. Just ok, not bad at all just nothing spectacular either.

YUM! I was craving a cupcake and I read the mixed reviews on here for Gigi’s. So I decided to try it for myself. I went around lunch hour on a Saturday(which at Midtown Village is murder as far as parking). The line wasn’t too bad considering. The first thing I noticed is how much icing they put on these cupcakes. Holy cow! It’s like 2 inches high! There were a dozen or so to choose from, but I picked the two(couldn’t help myself) that seemed to be the most popular-Midnight Magic(chocolate cupcake, chocolate icing and chocolate chips) and Birthday Surprise(vanilla cupcake with pink frosting and sprinkles). $ 3/cupcake. I just ate the Midnight Magic. VERY sweet icing and very moist cupcake. Totally filling too. I’ll definitely go back!

I’m redoing my entire review. I was just as overly harsh in my follow up and as overgenerous in my original. Gigi’s does bake the cupcakes in house, and they are pretty good if you eat them as soon as you get them. However, storing them overnight in the boxes the store packages them in does them no good. I would recommend storing the cupcakes in an actual airtight container, otherwise the cake will become dry. I still contend that the cake itself is less than extraordinary considering they are valued at $ 3 a piece. But they seriously need to do something about the crowd. Nobody wants to wait 45 minutes to buy cupcakes.

I do not understand previous reviewers at all. We bought 6 different flavors, and love them! Cake is tasty, with delicious textures which vary, and wonderful, homemade frosting. Worth waiting 2 hrs in line? Probably not, but still pretty darn good!

Thought since the line was out the door in 30 degree weather that I would give this place a try! Aftean about a 30 minute wait, and only 3 cupcakes to choose from; it was not that great! My stepmom that is a private baker makes way better cupcakes than this! The cupcake was dry, and hard to eat with about a pound of icing on top! I would compare it to a cupcake at the walmart bakery maybe! I’ll go back one more time just to give it another try!
