As far as baked goods and cakes goes, these guys can make one of the most delicious morsels in Tuscaloosa/Northport. Service, however, is lacking. Both people behind the counter had a horrible attitude and acted as though they were doing me a favor by taking my order. For three people in line, it took thirty minutes for me to even reach the counter. Still the best bakery in Tuscaloosa but that was irritating.

My first visit here was pretty terrible. I ordered quiche, one of my favorite foods, and it was some of the worst quiche I had ever eaten. It seemed stale– the texture was weird and it was rather flavorless. A manager was circling around asking people how they were enjoying the bakery and did not come around to me. However, I found it necessary to voice my opinion to her as that quiche was really bad. She at first seemed a bit skeptical, as I am sure she did not expect a teenager to voice concerns and originally only bothered to approach the upper middle class moms who make up the majority of the Edgar’s clientele. She did, however, give me a gift card, which I used to buy a delicious slice of strawberry cake. Good for expensive baked goods, not as good for real food.

Food from café is tasty with good portion sizes for the money, but their cakes all taste like they came from a box. I have tasted and tasted again to no avail. If I understand correctly they don’t bake in Tuscaloosa, but ship from Pelham. I can appreciate that, but their frosting’s/icings are WAY too heavy, not light and airy like fresh buttercream should be, it reminds me of the lard-type frosting from the 1980’s grocery stores cakes. Their cakes are also way too heavy and I have found them to be so sugary sweet(strawberry) that I can’t take more than a bite or two(not like the fresh strawberry cakes I have had other places). OR they don’t taste much like the flavor they are supposed to be(caramel, chocolate, yellow, white). They do have really good lemon-cheesecake squares and their cream cheese icing is fabulous, but for a place that is supposedly a high-end, gourmet bakery their cakes and the majority of the cake toppings fall far short of it. I am a regular, for the food(and hoping I find a cake, eventually, I will like). The Employees in the front are friendly and the young woman that does their decorating in house is a fabulous, friendly, and helpful. The Manager doesn’t seem to do much other than wonder about and chat with customers, I’ve never seen him do any work behind the counter and when I have seen Employees ask for his help he seems to almost ignore them & find another customer to talk to instead of helping as requested, making customers in line wait longer than need be because of his unwillingness to assist as he should. As a previous food industry manager nothing is more frustrating than watching guys like this get paid to do nothing. One of my favorite brunch spots in Tuscaloosa. Would highly recommend the eggs Benedict– only complaint would be the egg is occasionally over cooked but the hollandaise and bread they use makes up for it. Friendly staff and quick service as well!

Haven’t ordered yet and already a failure. 11:35 am and filthy chairs and floor. Tables are wet showing at least they were wiped off. But my goodness, at least wipe off the chairs and sweep more than once a day.

Went here for brunch on a friday and everything was phenomenal. We ordered the bread pudding pancakes(really good pancakes, but not really«bread pudding»), the vegetable quiche, and the crabcake benedict(highly recommend, you can actually taste the crab!). Also ordered an iced chai tea latte, but I’ll admit that it was very milky and didn’t have much chai flavor. Great service as well!

Edgar’s works better as a bakery than a café. Bad news first. The chai was terrible. I ordered it with nonfat milk because typically the chai syrup is already thick and sweet enough that I don’t need to overload the sugar. However, I barely tasted any chai. Just hot nonfat milk. Good news is that I love all of their pastries. I like the samples that they leave out. Anything to do lemon always gets me. They do resell pastries from the previous day, but it doesn’t bother me since they’re good and taste amazing. It really would be a ridiculous waste if they didn’t reuse them. I ordered the strawberry muffin and it was like eating fruit bread. It was delicious.

Edgar’s is located in a funny little strip mall thing that made it a little difficult to find, but had a lovely outdoor sitting area with trees and a fountain. The interior was much larger than I was expecting and very slick. The coffee was just okay, what you would expect from one of those large thermos keg things. I didn’t quibble about it because it was about as expensive as I would pay at a gas station for the same quality, though I did take a star off for it though I wish I could give them a 4.5 instead. It was really about the cake though. I read on Unilocal that the strawberry cake was great, so that’s that I got. It’s violently pink and a bit scary, though the slice was large enough to where I felt justified in spending almost $ 4 on it. But how does it taste? Let me start by saying I generally avoid fruit flavored cakes and baked goods like the plague because all they taste like is chemicals and medicine. This cake is not those things. This cake actually tastes like what I always wanted a strawberry cake to taste like. You know, strawberry-ish. The cake was light and fluffy but satisfying with a nice, moist crumb. The star though is the frosting. I generally hate bakery frosting, but this was a strawberry flavored cream cheese frosting that made the cake pop. It was the perfect amount too as most places just slather it on and I have to scrape it off. I was in strawberry cake heaven. Overall, it was a great place to stop and I’d like to try it again to see if they get a higher rating with their other food as well.

I ordered their Bread Pudding Pancakes with a side of bacon. The pancakes were some of the best pancakes I’ve ever had! They have a nice variety of baked goods, very nice staff, and a cozy atmosphere. I would definitely recommend Edgar’s to anyone looking for a great breakfast place. Just make sure to get their bright and early, it fills up quick!

Best strawberry cake EVER! Also love their café items. Chicken quesadilla is yummy! Soups and salads great as well! Was fan in Birmingham! Happy to have one in my college town!

Nice little bakery and sandwich shop. The décor is pretty basic and they do stock a variety of gift items and pre-packed cookie and cake boxes. There is a sizable pastry case with a wide variety of cookies and cakes. Other food comes in te for. Of sandwiches and soup; a given soup and quiche of the day in addition to a pretty stable list of sandwiches and salads. Staff are friendly and efficient. Portion sizes are generous; you get a LOT of food for your dollar here. Sandwiches come with chips and a side, for example. I got the bake potato salad for a side which was phenomenal. My only complaint is they only have charred black dark roast for coffee, quite unpleasant to the taste. I would like to see more varieties of soups as well instead of the solitary«soup of the day», particularly with the cold weather.

Love this place! Has delicious strawberry cake for my sister in laws birthday. Amazing! We went back early the next morning and got two boxes of delicious day old goods. I think my favorite thing from here so far is their orange rolls! Go early for a deal!

What a great little café/bakery! All the lunch options looked amazing! Ended up with the fried green tomato BLT with a side of potato salad. Absolutely delicious! The homemade chips are also really good! Would go back in a heartbeat, and take some dessert to go ;)

I’m not normally a huge ‘sweets eater’ but it’s a different story when I’m around Edgar’s. The Red Velvet cupcakes and Italian Crème cupcakes… wow! The best I’ve ever had of either. So glad to hear they’re expanding to new locations!

Definately Yummy! Pricey but worth it. I didn’t care to much for the lunch menu however all if the pastries, bread and cake that I ate was worth every calorie. I don’t understand why in the south all the bakeries are closed on Sundays. Where I am from there was a line out the doors on Sundays. Everyone wants a snack after church.

Decent place. Okay quality cakes. Have tried strawberry, Italian cream, and vanilla. Their lemon cheesecake bars are too die for. Not a fan of their breakfast but lunch is decent for the prices. Would visit again.

We had breakfast here on Monday morning. After a difficult decision, I chose the Bread Pudding Pancakes. They were delicious. This place is Spotless. The employees are professional and courteous. The food was served quickly. The coffee was premium.(But they only supply take-out cups. Real coffee cups would have been a 5+ rating) The pastry selection was the freshest and most varied(almost overwheming) I’ve found in Tuscaloosa, and the display cases were clearly labeled as to content and price. We will be back.

Had the grilled turkey cranberry sandwich. It was like Thanksgiving in a perfect bite. So good. Would definitely go back.
