Good food priced affordably in a fun cozy atmosphere. A friend and I tried the chimichanga, and chili rellenos. Both were great. The rellenos were a little spicer than what I’m used to. The complimentary chips and salsa were just okay. The salsa’s a bit bland and very thin. Service was great.

One of the best Mexican places in Tuscaloosa, hands down, especially for a college town. It’s a little hole in the wall Mexican place downtown that is serving up strong margaritas and classic Mexican food. The staff are great and the service is fast. If you are in a budget, no worries. Go and check this place out if you want some cheap, but good, Mexican food and drink.

My friends and I are OBSESSED with this place. Best margaritas in town, still have that killer $ 3 price tag from 3 – 9 every day. Excellent service, friendly staff, DELICIOUS food, and strong drinks. Our favorite waiter, Eduardo, recognizes us when we come in as gives us hugs. One of downtown Tuscaloosa’s best kept secrets. Check this place out!

We visited Don Tono’s per the suggestion of our hotel front desk. We wanted to eat Mexican somewhere within walking distance of our hotel(Home2 Suites) and the Tuscaloosa Amp, where we were seeing a show. The restaurant is right in downtown in a very charming little strip of restaurants. They have a small, covered outdoor dining area that we would have taken advantage of, but it was too hot after our walk from the hotel. Our waiter came over quickly to take our order. My husband ordered a beer, and I had a margarita. The one thing I would say negative about our experience is that our waiter seemed super annoyed with my questions about the margarita selection. I prefer margaritas made fresh — not from a mix — and he didn’t offer much help. I wasn’t sure if it was because he just didn’t know or didn’t care. I took a chance, and it was fine. The guy at the hotel mentioned that they are known for their margaritas, but I didn’t find it to be overly thrilling. My husband ordered steak tacos a la carte, and I had a fajita quesadilla. It was all very delicious, and SO inexpensive. I guess it’s the perk of being in a college town? My quesadilla was $ 4.50, and it included all the grilled veggies along with the meat. I pay at least $ 10 for that at our normal Mexican spot. In the end, my margarita was humongous, my husband had two beers, and we both ate(a lot) for $ 30 including tip. Pretty good if you ask me.
